Wonderful place to see the worst of society - 9/7/2021

Shows the worst of American behavior and values. Right up there with New Orleans. But there is a bright side. Liberals flock there. Please stay.

Vegas, the home that everybody dreams about. - 8/14/2021

I went to Vegas to visit, and didn’t want to leave. Vegas had something for everyone, from the down and out, to the well to do, and everybody gets alone, because nobody judges anybody, and to top it off, the city is gorgeous and well maintained, except for the areas where it’s acceptable to be a bit unkempt( the Homeless camps) but that doesn’t spill over, or stop anybody from having fun, in the Common areas. I really enjoyed myself, and the only reason that I left was because I had responsibilities elsewhere, but it’s a great city, and I will recommend it to anyone who is not into a lot of Drama, and just likes to have fun, so yes, I’ll give Vegas 5 out of 5 stars, because it cover everything, and hides nothing, so everybody is free to be themselves, whatever makes them happy, as long as they doesn’t break any Legal Laws, but what you do morally is totally up to you.

Great but ill mannered people is prevalent - 7/5/2021

Everything is available here from filipino cuisines to japanese shops to Winco's to themed cafes. However, the city is a little high in crime. Any side of the east side of vegas is a no-go (unless that's your jam) except for henderson which has been increasingly becoming a bad place due to ill-mannered uneducated people, or lake las vegas. Las vegas has so much to offer and is fairly cheap unless youre looking to rent/buy a home in the west side of vegas where even lots can be as expensive as a house in henderson. Currently homes in the west side can be as expensive as millions of dollars. Educated and civilized people tend to live on the west side. Uneducated, ill mannered, ill tempered people live on the east side. Tourists and closet *******s who try to appear pleasant tend to stay on the strip. I really like this city, well, at least some parts of it. But to live in a safe area, you'll need to be earning a decent amount of money. Don't think about living in the west side of vegas with a 13$ hour job.

Vegas - The good, the bad, and the ugly - 6/14/2021

I’ve lived in las vegas all my life, I was born here, and here’s some things I feel like I’d want to share that you might only know from living here for a while. DO NOT underestimate the summer heat here! Those highest recorded temperatures on weather sites? Those are literally the average every year. 115 degree ambient air temperature in a barren desert is HOT. The ambient air being 115 means that the sidewalk, pavement, door handles, cars, etc. are 25-50+ degrees hotter then that. Especially inside your vehicle! The inside of the vehicle regularly gets 127 - the seats burn you and you have to avoid the seatbelt for dear life, as funny as that sounds. So summers SUCK, as most people could probably infer! Also due to the excessive heat (talking literally “excessive heat warnings daily for around 2 months straight out of the year” excessive), the power bill in summer is enormous unless you’ve got solar to displace it some- even with that, which I’ve got, you’re still looking at a 80-100 power bill in all likely hood- without solar the ballpark is around 300. And also your car AC works so hard that it blows out pretty often- you got an older car, you will probably face a summer with no AC in the car. (Has happened to me 4 summers in my life here and it is major suckville) If you’re moving here, do yourself a favor and invest in a property that has a pool - either a community pool or a private one. Pools make summer have a plus side to all the negativities of the dog days of summer. A bright side to that summer heat though is if you can tolerate it (especially if you use it to your advantage by swimming), you are looking at 8 months of nice weather the rest of the year. September through May all rarely go above 90 or below 20 so those months are actually nice. But again just keep in mind you WILL experience those two months of relentless triple-digit back to back heat where you can literally feel your eyeballs cooking and your feet are baking in your shoes. That’s coming from someone who was born and raised here my whole life so I am accustomed to it. Another con is the polarization- Nevada is truly a swing state- even in the metro area, then you have die hard conservatives, juxtaposed with the die hard liberals, and there is little grey area. It’s not a swing state because everyone is moderate if that’s what you’re looking for. For instance, you could be a liberal minded person, and move to the Vegas area which appears highly liberal on paper- only to happen to move in between two houses with staunch conservatives as neighbors. Now you will have neighbors who will hate you and it’ll be hard not to do so back, because they’ll be passive aggressive the entire duration you’re living next to them. Unfortunately that’s the climate here. Also please be aware that Las Vegas crime is kind of strange. It doesn’t have a big ‘safe’ side and ‘unsafe’ side. It has pockets of ghetto and pockets of nice. So make sure you use the crime map and look at the crime rate of the exact zip code you’re looking into. Coming from a local, those zip code crime rates are spot on. That will actually make you find a safe area. A pro to las vegas is the LGBT acceptance here, we’ve got pride festivals and Trans heathcare plus employment and housing protection too. There’s also lots of stuff open 24 hours, which is pretty unique and convenient. Another pro is the diversity- theres a lot of African Americans, Hispanics, and Asian Americans who make Vegas their home.

Las Vegas & the Surrounding Areas are GREAT! - 5/4/2021

I've lived here for 23 years, a transplant from the East Coast. The weather here is fantastic. Yes the temps reach high #'s in mid-July for 2 weeks, otherwise it's below 100 with the very low humidity so it's quite comfortable (feels like mid 80's) and once the sun sets its absolutely gorgeous! The cost of living is 1/2 that of a major city, a 3BD home of 2300+ sq. ft. is about $325,000, the highways are easy to travel (work commutes 15 min), Entertainment is unbeatable & the suburbs are quiet! Summerlin & Henderson NV are rated as 2 of the Best Places to live in the USA, filled with Garden Parks, Bike & Walking Trails, just beautiful! Location is fantastic, you can obviously fly from or to anywhere reasonably, there are many National Parks (Red Rock, Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce, Valley of Fire) within minutes to hours in every direction. Pro Sports are on their way, the Vegas Golden Knights, 1 of the best in the NHL, great local support & they play at the State of the Art T-Mobile Arena. The NFL Las Vegas Raiders also with a State of the Art Stadium, this will be the 1st year where fans will be able to attend, support is off the charts! How great to fly in on a Thursday/Friday, enjoy the Las Vegas Strip, shows, restaurants, games & sport books, roll out of bed Sunday, hand your luggage off to the Hotel to send to the Airport, take the Monorail to the Stadium, cheer on your team then head to the McCarren to fly home. The City is always growing/updating, The Asian Themed Resorts World Casino opens June 24th, 2021, the Madison Square Garden Sphere, opening 2023, is the 1st of its kind, a 17,500 Concert Arena, 25 Suits, with HD Digitally Beamed Audio to every seat and a 160,000 sq. ft. IMAX Screen. Freemont Experience Original Strip is growing & modernizing, the Circa Resorts & Casino the newest entry there with; Stadium Swim, a must see to believe Sports Book! Some of the best Golf Parks, Skiing, Greatest Chinatown, 5600 Restaurants, 5 Cirque du Soliel Shows, #1 Concert Destination. Elon Musk's Boring Company just completed the 1st leg of "The Loop" underground tunnel connecting Las Vegas Convention Centers to Resorts World, next leg to run to the Las Vegas Raiders Allegiant Stadium at the south end of the Strip. If you don't like Sunshine but enjoy paying State & Estate Taxes (NV has none) then I guess Las Vegas is not right for you but if you enjoy beautiful suburbs, fantastic weather and world class entertainment with a low cost of living then Las Vegas is GREAT!

Don't be tempted to move here. - 3/16/2021

Have lived here since 1998. Hate it. Spouse says we are too old to make another cross-country move. So I will die here. Miserable. Don't be tempted to move here because of no state income tax. I'm a penny-pinching SOB and it wasn't worth whatever I saved in taxes. Barren landscape, hellish heat.

Greater Expectations - 1/15/2021

I moved here from Southern California about 6 months ago...like everyone else. I lucked out blindly choosing to live in a community called "Providence" and not North Las Vegas or some other questionable place for newbies cause let me tell you, there are definitely areas to stay away from. Just general places that have a vibe to them. At first, it was noticeably cheaper, but then the novelty starts to wear off when it doesn't seem to really make that big of a difference. Without question, rent and homes are more affordable - but that's coming from California, so not many places wouldn't be in comparison. I moved here for VA Healthcare/specialty care services and it happened to be somewhere I could afford to live on my own - so win win, right? Not really. I'm sure Covid is a factor in a lot of things, but I recently went looking to purchase a townhouse on a VA loan, thinking my mortgage would be cheaper than rent. Here's the thing about these developed neighborhoods in Vegas...Skye Canyon, Providence, Centennial Hills, Lone Mountain...they have regular HOA's, and then on top of that (some of them) have separate neighborhood/community HOA's. So you could be paying easily over $200 a month in bs HOA fees if you're not well-informed. Then, there's getting around. I'll admit I'm a typical aggressive California driver, but I'm a defensive one, and I'm not intentionally rude about it ever. But if a CA driver in particular ever pisses you off and you're a native to the local area, it's likely because of the roads. It still trips me out from time to time, but trying to figure out what is or isn't a lane, or whether my turn off the freeway is really merging with on-coming traffic, is insanity. Like, what city developer felt it was safe and okay to design the infrastructure that way? Two things I really love are the people are super nice. At least in my experience...and the landscape. The mountains and the sunsets are amazing. Not impressed with apartment living...even paying above average rates in a nicer area on the 3rd floor. I don't know if it's the times we live in or what but it's like no one respects other people or the fact that it's a communal living situation. Oh! If you're coming from Los Angeles, no traffic. Probably won't stick around...

Hell on Earth - 1/5/2021

We moved away the first week of December and yesterday I had to make a quick trip back on business. OMG, conditions are worse than they were when we left! The air pollution is unbelievable, we coughed and sneezed the whole time we were there, the litter on the side of the roads is as bad as I have ever seen litter anywhere. Homeless and beggars on streets corners everywhere we went, congested traffic and Vegas cops thick as thieves on the main drags...I thank God we were able to get out of here and that we will never be back. The city is a hell hole, please do not move here.

Sure it's relative, but really it's awful - 10/9/2020

I have lived in Las Vegas for 22+ years. Essentially I grew up here, went through the Clark County School System, went to UNLV, started my career here. I've seen the city go from about 500k people to now about 3 million. Though I did grow up here, I have spent a lot of time elsewhere, with family all over the country- various cities, small towns, etc- I have experienced a lot of other places and I feel I can give an honest assessment of what Vegas is like. What you think of Vegas is extremely relative- but it's not for me and I feel is getting worse and worse annually. Actually since Covid, it seems like it's declining monthly. If you're from a crappy, expensive and large city-Vegas seems great because to you, it's affordable, there is a lot to do here entertainment wise, etc. Most people who move here and tend to genuinely like it are typically young, single people who love to party, frankly tend to be shallow and are just looking to appear flashy, make a quick buck etc. If you're a relatively sane, intelligent person from a smaller (not big city) place that likes community, good schools, affordability, Vegas is NOT it. Don't get me wrong, there are good people here, but unless you're plugged into a church, get heavily involved in some sort of niche group, etc, it is difficult to find real friends or connection for someone who did not grow up here and doesn't have "roots". People here can be very cliquey, flaky, fair weathered, transient, aloof. Don't be surprised if you NEVER see or talk to your neighbors, especially in the newer, suburban home areas. Essentially if you move to a "nice" part of town, at some point you most likely won't want to leave the 2 mile suburban bubble you're in once you see how this city is. A "normal" person realizes Vegas is not "normal" after probably a year or so of living here, once the novelty of "all the fun there is to do" or "so much is open 24hrs" wears off. You'll begin to wonder why the F you're here. CCSD wasn't great when I went-and I went to a "better school"- and it has gotten much worse. Don't take my word for it, do your research- this school district and NV as a whole is ranked at or near the bottom as one of the worst education/districts in the country annually. It's a **** show. Much like many other places (Idaho, Texas, Nashville, Colorado), especially due to the proximity to California the city has gotten a massive influx of transplants from California, mostly LA area- as a result, although avg income has stayed the same, housing and rent has gone through the roof. For example, last year the median housing price in July was 300k, in one year it went up to 310k. It was about $245k just a few years ago, and rent has followed suit. In the last 4 years the same 1 bedroom apartment has gone from 800 a month in 2016 to about 1150-1200 a month (not the best area). Expect to see apartments in the 1250-1600 a month range in any decent area. But if you're from a big, expensive city, this falls on deaf ears. As a result, relatively speaking- and especially with plummeting employment due to Covid- when paired with stagnant wages, and increasing costs of everything else, Vegas is quickly becoming "expensive". We also have some of the highest gas, liquor and food prices in the (contiguous) US due to everything getting shipped in to the middle o the desert and the lack of agricultural areas, etc nearby. Eating and drinking out, and we're talking off strip, is expensive compared to other metro areas. Unless it's a "happy hour" the average cost of a drink or draft beer at a local, suburban, off strip bar- is probably $8. If you want a single family home expect your electric bill to be around $300 a month 3-4 months out of the year from May/June-Sept. We have nice roads and highways, and great infrastructure, traffic is not bad compared to other large metro areas but road rage and bad driving has gotten out of control. The drivers here are worse than LA. I honestly don't feel safe driving in this city anymore. 10 years ago that was not an issue, or it was an occasional issue, now its a regular thing. Oh yeah, we also have some of the highest auto insurance rates in the country as a result. All types of Crime has gone through the roof since 2016. We are now seeing issues with violent crime on the strip being out of control in Aug/Sept 2020 (there are multiple factors here) when it wasn't an issue here. LVMPD finally came out this week to state that yes, it is a problem and there is a rise in crime. Much of it is from (thugs) visiting from other states and causing problems. Our moron Sheriff dissolved our Gang Unit years ago, and as a result Vegas now has significant gang/violence problems and they just now realized "Oh, gee, maybe we shouldn't have done this". Due to the "nature" of Las Vegas, drugs and human/sex trafficking are a MASSIVE problem here. I graduated high school in 2009. From 2008-2012 I had to have at least 20-30 kids that I personally knew from my graduating class die from overdoses before hitting 18 or 21, and that was just the ones I heard about, at a "nice" school. It's way worse now, 10 years later. Heroin is a big issue here, and cocaine, in the nice areas and Meth/crack are more issues in the inner city, North Vegas and Boulder Hwy areas. Rough population in 2011: about a million, rough population 2020, about 3 million. Yes, the population tripled in 9 years. No, the statistics on this site are not accurate and do not account for the metro area. If you have kids, want to raise a family in a safe place, with good schools, don't move here. Don't let the nice new suburbs, and developments fool you. They're over priced, the "nice" parts of town are often targeted for burglaries and home invasions. Ring, security cameras, etc are a MUST here. Now again, it's all relative- but as for me and my friends (who all have kids/families now), between the now lack of employment, stagnant wages, increasing COL and overall exponential decline of the city, we are all getting the hell out of here.

Trying to be fair in my review - 7/31/2020

I recently went to Vegas on a 7 day vacation to see my new granddaughter. First the pluses: I like the mountainous views, the lights of the strip and the weather. Now the negatives: Most of the people that were nice to us were in the service industry such as on the strip or at a restaurant serving us. At places like stores such as grocery and Walmart the workers tended to be rude and or just didn't care to help the customers find what they were looking for and I even had an employee yell at me for trying to get a cart that he was getting ready to take back into the store. For a state that gives its citizens a pretty good social safety net compared to my home state of Texas, the people in Nevada seem to be just miserable. Back here at home at the stores the employees will go out of their way to help a customer find what they are looking for yet in Vegas at one Walmart 4 out of 5 employees pointed me to the wrong part of the store for an item and not one of them offered to show me in person where it was. I felt like they were being bothered by me asking a question. And certain items that were not expensive were locked up and when I jokingly asked if there was alot of thieves around the employee responded "unfortunately yes". They had a $3.97 pliers locked up and the detergent PODS. Houston is flat and hot and humid in the summer but it is diverse and the people are friendly and will go out of their way to help you. Vegas is fun to visit but I will take Houston as a place to live over Vegas anytime. Im sure that there are nice strangers in Vegas it's just that I didn't meet many.

It's Vegas..... - 1/6/2020

If you like crowds, overpriced gimmicks, rampant prostitution, greed, scams on every corner, the stench of stale smoke, expensive food, expensive hotels, rude tourists, and losing all you've ever worked for....then welcome to Vegas! On an interesting note, those of us who live/work in the area avoid the strip like the plague. It's literally nothing but tourists. However, there's more to Las Vegas than the strip. North Vegas/Summerlin is a pretty nice area, but you won't avoid the slot machines. They are in every grocery store, pharmacy and every other place you could imagine. Vegas is cool to visit, but not great to live.

It’s hot, windy and too much crime - 4/4/2019

we moved from the Bay Area almost 4 years ago. We live in the lakes, and it’s nice for walking and biking if the weather permits, although where we lived in the Bay Area had much more to offer, but not as easy to access without a short drive. The cost of living is much cheaper here, but you get what you pay for. The summers are so unbearably hot. I don’t go outside during the day for many months. And the wind is ridiculous at times. It’s been a challenge to remember not to leave the outdoor furniture unattended ,otherwise it will end up in your pool or crashing into a window. In addition, everything becomes a dusty mess. If I could, I’d move back to the Bay Area. Nothing beats the weather there, and it’s far more green not to mention the bay is lovely, but we cannot afford to buy our old home back if we wanted to. Although prices have increased here, they’re way below the value of California. We thought if the homes prices continue to go up, we may have a chance to return to California. Unfortunately, many economists are stating the home values are overpriced by nearly 20%. I’m not sure how Las Vegas will be able to sustain the current prices. We’ve all heard the rumors a recession is coming, and the first businesses to feel the effects are gambling industries and resort settings. Ugh! If we had invested all our monies into our home here in Vegas, we could likely return to California. Unfortunately, we bought a home for half the value we sold ours for, and now we’re stuck because we tied up our monies in investments. My biggest complaint here is the crime. The crime is horrible. However, we are stuck and considering moving elsewhere equally affordable if possible.

Great plyace to live! - 3/16/2019

I am originally from Sothern California and moved to Las Vegas in 1991. In 1998 I moved to Central Florida, then Texas, back to Vegas. Yes, we move a lot. Everytime we left Vegas I missed it. We moved to Georgia, then Florida and I hate it and our final move is back to Vegas at the end of this year. My husband lived in Florida when I met him so it was a tug back and forth over the last 20 years. Vegas is home for me. Vegas is more than the gambling and the Las zvegas Strip. Yes, it gets hot in the summer but there is virtually no humidity. The people I find are more friendly and outgoing. The spring and fall are fantastic and the winters are mild. The thing I found most amazing is that I never knew I had arthritis until I moved away from the dry desert. I have been suffering horribly since we moved back to Florida. I am sure Vegas is not for everyone, but it is definitely for me and can hardly wait until we get back home! We ne more thing.. No state income tax and property taxes are less than 1/2 what we are paying if Florida. As an example, our property taxes in. Eva’s for a 3,800 sq ft House was $5,000 per year, in Florida I almost fainted when we got our tax bill of 11,000 for a 2,400 sq ft house. Outrageous.

Horrible-Must Read - 3/10/2019

I’ve lived all over the world-literally. Most of my life in Europe but also New Orleans, Los Angeles and South Florida as well as in Asia. DO NOT COME HERE. This city is crooked, corrupt, morally bankrupt and everyone has an angle, a dark past, issues, IT IS LITERALLY A MIRAGE. Firstly this is where bad people come to reinvent themselves. Google your doctors, dentists, everyone you do any kind of business with. The city is literally an AYCE (all you can eat) city, a Groupon city, a scam and con artist city. The glamour of The Strip IS NOT SO GREAT and even if you LOVE it, as soon as you leave it’s another world. Most communities are built to house a workforce mainly for The Strip but also for local businesses and professionals (un-proffesionals usually). They literally, no joke, put apartment complexes up in about 3 weeks, neighborhoods are literally like this: Raze the area of desert-takes a week or two, the street entrance to the soon-to-be community is made, a huge wall straight down where the track housing will go and the wall will be the end of the yard (like all 6 steps) goes up and in another week houses start being built. The worst quality and most repetitive housing I’ve seen outside of Russia. It’s AWFUL. Don’t expect neighbors to be friendly, if your lucky some other neighbors may be new to the area and not yet be jaded but you can’t expect to be greeted, looked at or spoken to, nor expect to know anyone in your neighborhood. I consider living in Las Vegas to be a punishment for something. After 4 years we are finally leaving in May and it can’t come soon enough.

Cool visit but I'd never want to live here - 1/25/2019

My unbiased review. From a guy born and raised in Dallas. Las Vegas is a shock when I first saw it from the plane. I'm used to flat land, country music, and the Dallas Cowboys. Anybody from Dallas or have ever been. You know there's NOTHING out there or in TX period that looks like Vegas. However Sin city is exactly what it is. I'm walking down the strip and I'm getting handed literally porn flyers. So it definitely not a city I'd recommend taking children. 2nd hand smoke is a SERIOUS issue here. The people I've met here are friendly. Some are very rude. Lyft drivers are from all over the USA and the world I guess. Will tell you about their lives and the Lyft driver today that took me to Walmart. I just asked if he was from Vegas. He asked WHY?! WHY?!!!! I'm like ooooookay I'll keep to myself. He picks up a girl across the highway which has apartments and town houses that looks like desert slums. Very poor, old and run down. I take it there's a lot of racism here because people here look at you as such to let you know they don't like you. When I got dropped off at the local Walmart. I hear a white guy with tattoos on his face say those Mexicans this and that. They have a spot in the freezer area that says

Tourist Trap, But Not for Living In. - 12/29/2018

Highly recommended if you want to do nothing but drink, gamble, club hop and shop. Otherwise, avoid. AT ALL COSTS. Vegas is a cesspool of garbage. A friend and I moved out here from Cali two years ago, as the cost of living was (unfortunately) much too high for us and Vegas seemed convenient. With a rapidly escalating cost of living and a rapidly decreasing quality of life, we're regretting our decision to move here. Sorry, but we aren't used to brain-dead zombies with corroding souls. People that worship this place must do nothing but drink, gamble, drink and gamble. Then sleep. If you're interested in hockey, you'll find a bit of a community here. Golden Knights fans are pretty enthusiastic. Outside of hockey, though, unless you're some highroller at a casino or a member of a golf club, good luck with finding a strong, welcoming community. People here are pretty ugly-and I'm not talking about on the outside. Unless you're into 350+ days of sunshine, with barely an inch of rain, the weather's pretty boring. December gets pretty icy, but count on temps rising back up January or February. Okay, let's cut this thesis paper down to the pros and cons. Pros: Summerlin, Henderson and Centennial areas (quiet, family friendly), the libraries Cons: The people, the escalating cost of living, nothing to do outside of shopping/bars/casinos/Red Rock Canyon, people in traffic, 350+ days of sunshine Don't forget high unemployment rates, second hand smoke for us non-smokers, deadly car accidents every five minutes and high car registration fees! Fleeing California? Find another alternative. Texas. Arizona. Something in Washington. Do NOT choose Las Vegas.

WORST CITY ON EARTH - 12/19/2018

I cannot bring myself to give this a single star. Where do I even begin. My family moved here about 4 years ago, I started a business so I have the misfortune of being an employer too. This is without a doubt the most corrupt, heinous and hideous city I ever have lived in and I will say, I LIVED ALL OVER THE WORLD-including Dubai, all over Europe, SE Asia and in several cities in USA. Nowhere on Earth compares to this. I feel s strongly I would go as far as to say the city should be wiped off the face of the Earth-completely dismantled. Firstly-just geography, YOU ARE NOWHERE. This is a city that is 4 hours and 30 minutes at best from the next major city, Los Angeles. That 4 hours and 30 seconds makes a huge difference, there the weather is pretty consistent all year-HERE, miserable summers that you and your children and pets can literally get a burn just by getting into a car, then cold winters. There is no
