Arizona is a great place to live, in the Phoenix valley anyways... we have sun most of the year, blue skies and white puffy clouds... schools for anyone and anything you could possibly want to go for, concerts of every genre, arts centers and outdoor events in most major cities, museums, history, carnivals, swap meets, zoo's and wildlife parks, scenis drives for those that love it, country or city living within a short drive from each other... You can be in L.A. Vegas, or San Diego within 4-6 hours. We have 5 lakes within a 30-45 minute drive and if you love snow you can go to the ski resorts within 2-3 hours! The state of AZ has every climate and every kind of landscape, desert, water, mts., valleys & prairies. You name it, you can find it here! If you don't like the heat go north! And besides its only from May to September then its heaven!!! you'll wake up to springlike weather almost every day that will make you want to get up and breathe in deeply and say yes!!! i made it through the heat and THIS is why i live here!!![more...]

glad that I moved out of Arizona - 6/29/2010

Finally, I found a site where I am able to voice my frustration. I just moved out of Arizona and I am glad that I did. I lived in that state for fourteen years and did have some good times and great memories, but I will say some things that people will not like or appreciate. One, there are many people in Arizona who are shallow, narrow-minded, egotistical, and rude. Many of the state's residents lack personality, heart, and determination. Second, the people in that state do not care about education and they sure as hell do not appreciate the hardworking teachers of the state; of which I was one. Third, the people lack the backbone to stand up to the legislature and to even Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who continues to run over people time after time. The weather in the summer is a furnace and there is not much to do to combat it. The businesses in Arizona go out of their way to screw their customers and their employees. Pay is lousy for many professions, but everyone keeps bending over and taking it. People cannot drive to save their life and if you ask for directions, do not count on getting any even if they have lived there for ten or more years. When you have a legitimate complaint, the best response that anyone gives is, "If you do not like it, then you can leave." How about we try to solve the problem. I am just glad to have left Arizona. There are some good people in Arizona, but they are few and far between. [more...]

Arizona At Bottom of the List in Education Funding - 4/27/2010

I have lived in Arizona (Phoenix) for over 20 years. I have watched the AZ Legislature and their decisions deteriorate to the point that we no longer have thoughtful leadership resulting in cuts in Educational, Law Enforcement and Fire funding. The beautiful State Parks of Arizona are threatened with closure. Arizona used to be a beautiful place with clean air and wide open spaces. This is being threatened by poor leadership from Govenor and Legislature (2009 - 2010). I can't imagine why anyone would want to subject thier children to class sizes of 34+ students because of severe funding cuts. Signed, Disappointed Arizonan[more...]

Tucson ...Great Sky...Scary Streets...Nothing to d - 4/25/2010

I Love the sun and the skies here. There's nothing else like it anywhere. Ive lived here for about 7 years now but not by choice. Its hard to make a living. Weather: The weather is dry and sunny with blistering heat for about 2-3 months continuously (which means lots of air conditioning and a camel hump) Then the monsoon season (Which monsoon means season) hits and the sky lights up like forth of July with lightning and heavy flood rains. Then it cools down and chills out and the fall is beautiful. The winters are mild and boring and spring is breathtaking. The People: Down to earth...some a little too down to earth...some intensely rude. There is a strange culture of unmotivated people here. There is a nasty tension between white and Hispanic culture here. A huge meth problem. That's no surprise. . .Tucson is a border city and stop off point for drugs...A ton of older retirees. The Economy: terrible but not the worst. Ive been a part of about 4 local businesses that went under in the last 3 years. Local business is what made this town special and most of the beloved ones are gone. Sad, and that just makes the feel here so more depressing. No jobs, drugs and crazy SSI people. The Crime: bad, bad, bad, lots of car theft, robbery and gang violence. Crime is everywhere but its nasty here. Lots of kidnappings. I have a son and I am planning on relocated that being one huge issue. If you like to be bored and broke...with a sunburn...move to Tucson otherwise...just a great place to visit.[more...]
