Bridgeport - 8/14/2014

Bridgeport Connecticut is a beautiful city and a wonderful place to live. I currently attend Central Magnet high school as well as the Bridgeport Aquaculture school and I can honestly say that the quality of education that is offered there is amazing. The teachers are very helpful and the courses that are offered are interesting and realistic to the science related fields that are needed in a city that is next to the water. Not only are the schools great, but life in the park city is great. The people here are kind and generous towards each other and there's a lot to do. Besides all the parks here we have the only zoo in Connecticut. There's also tons of places to fish, the Barnum museum is downtown and the history in Bridgeport is so rich. Those who bash this city don't know the real Bridgeport. Of course there crime occasionally, but then again, there's going to be crime anywhere you go. Bridgeport is such a special place. You can have a nice conversation with anyone you come across in this city because unlike those who talk trash about this city, the citizens here are down to earth.

Wilmington, NC

in retrospect - 8/9/2012

I left Bridgeport in 1996, after bankruptcy changed it. I left looking for a better place to live. Funny thing is I haven't found it. I grew up in Bridgeport. What I loved? It was near the ocean. Not all towns have that quality. It had three parks. Seaside with lots of playing fields, Beardsley with a petting zoo and a nearby dairy queen, and Pleasure Island with endless horseshoe crabs. The houses have character, at least the older well maintained homes. I attended Central Magnet High School and I had the best teachers. They were people that cared about my future. They guided me to attend college, and they taught me how to work hard. Yes, there was crime. I personally never suffered anything horrible thank God, but I was no stranger to people being murdered, raped, or robbed. You know what, so far Bridgeport is one of the best places I'e ever lived. I moved to Florida. Everything costs an extensive amount of money. Florida was fun, but living there was hectic. I found that the teachers in Bridgeport cared more than the ones in Florida. The homes in Florida all look like cookie cutter houses and they are all controlled by home owners associations. My home in Florida never felt like my home. Then I tried Fresno California. It had no beaches. It was safer than Bridgeport, but it was like living in the middle of nowhere so that I could be safe. Then I moved to Wilmington NC. The city is beautiful and it has beaches. At first I thought, yeah I did it, but I was wrong. The people are hateful and racist. In Bridgeport I learned to respect and appreciate other cultures. In Wilmington they teach you to blatantly hate them all. In Bridgeport people worked together and worked hard. In Wilmington, the people like to destroy each other and do not appreciate people that work hard. Having a cousin or making a donation gets you a job faster than working hard. Wilmington makes me miss Bridgeport. My point. Bridgeport is a solid Big City. It is one of the USA's oldest cities and it is a big city so yes it has crime, but it also has a lot good things to offer its people. It has experience that new towns lack to properly handle crime waves and economic waves. Shoot, Bridgeport was the first town in the US to go bankrupt and since then it got back on its feet. If you are looking for the laid back, good old boy but kissing of a suburbs don't go there, but if you are looking for a big city with character, a beach, a multicultural attitude that welcomes all, values hard work, and always bounces back on its feet try Bridgeport.

??Armpit of NE?? - 3/3/2010

Unlike some other writers, I have lived in many places in New England. Although the relative absence of wealth compared to it's surrounding towns stands out, however, Bridgeport is Far From the Armpit of NE. Like many other ex-industrial northeast cities it has it's problems, but the quality of life is not that bad. It's proximity to NYC and FF County's Gold Coast, along with relative affordability for young professionals make a decent place to bunk. There are good restaurants/bars, down to earth people and and a budding arts scene. If you want an armpit - try living in Worcester, Lowell, New Bedford.

So why are you still living here???? The beauty about life is having options, right? I have lived here 17 years and unfortunately I read this message about two and half years late. However, in the seventeen years I have lived here, I have joined committee's, Helped at local schools and carry a book to lodge the address's of people who should be fined for not keeping up with their properties, and colling the city on them. You see, people like to #$%^ where they eat. Perhaps you have forgotten it is Bridgeport with two major hospitals, three court houses and a wast management site. Not to mention the beautiful Seaside Beach with a fabulous view of Long Island Sound. It takes one person negative take on a city such as ours to be viewed as the scum of the Earth. It takes one person like myself and the voice and hard work of the people I have befriended on my adventures to molding my City to the Gem it once was. So, instead of bashing Bridgeport why not help make the city better, or better yet help the city by moving OUT!!!!!!

I agree with Johnny from Stratford. - 12/23/2008

I agree with Johnny of Stratford, CT....I was born and raised in Bridgeport and it will always be home, but when I come to visit, after a few days I'm ready to go back to Virginia. I refer to Brideport as the "BLACK HOLE" due to the fact that it seems like everyone there is stressed out due to financial burdens. I can't seem to understand why it costs so much to live in that horrible city that don't care about its residents. The streets have more potholes that a land mine testing field, the schools aren't worth sh*t (excuse my choice of words but there almost seems to be no other way to put it) there's absolutly no night life unless you're into crime. ALL OF THE OFFICIALS IN THE CITY ARE DIRTY. Another thing I don't understand is how do you charge people the amount of money you do to enter crappy ol' Seaside Park????? There's nothing there, no attractions, nowhere to eat once you've entered the park, everything is blocked off, and what we refer to as the "Mummy Pond" looks like you should be able to find about 100+ bodies in there. Bridgeport is going down and going down fast. You couldn't pay me enough to move back there, too depressing. Its almost as if the sun doesn't shine there. Like the old saying goes, "kick them while they're down" refering to the highest minority population in the state of connecticut (didn't put connecticut in CAPS because I have absolutly no respect for the cities officials. Everyone in the city should treat them like President "RETARD" Bush and throw their shoes at them, preferably their Timberlands. lol

Bridgeport is the armpit of New England - 8/24/2008

Bridgeport is the worst city in NE. The crime is terrible, the streets are dirty, and crack rules the city. To make matters worse, jackass Police Chief cut all special operations programs ie. Narcotics, K9, etc. which equates to higher crime for the future. Also Bridgeport is among the highest property taxed cities in the state.

Bridgeport is the armpit of New England - 8/24/2008

The streets are filthy, crime is awful and will be getting worse. The Police force has a horrible Chief who is cutting all the special operations ie. Narcotics, K9, and other details. The city is pretty much bankrupt and is losing commerce to better cities in the county ie. Bank of Scotland. To top it all off, Bridgeport has among the highest property tax rate in the state. I feel sorry for people who have to live in Bridgeport.

Bridgeport,CT is not a city to consider moving to - 1/25/2007

I am a native of Bridgeport, CT-born & raised, recently located to Seymour, CT. Bridgeport,CT has a high crime rate, it's very costly to live there, and has an awful education system. Seymour has almost a non-existent crime rate, and is slightly cheaper with an excellent school system, but let's face it:Connecticut is an expensive state to reside in. My family and I are seriously considering moving down to Georgia-not only because it'll be cheaper and the homes are so cheap down there it's almost unheard of, but also because I'm so sick & tired of New England Winters. There are more cold days here than there are warm. But over all, Georgia is a beautiful state that would be more affordable for my family than Connecticut.

worst city - 7/10/2006

Bridgeport is one of the most crime infested cities, to top it off The whole freakin state is krupt, Bridgeport is one of the cheaper places to live in Fairfield County but still costs around 1 million for a house. Crime,Crime,Crime it is very unsafe to live with children here, schools are horrible and their is alot of viloent gangs here. This is one of the highest places for teenaged gangs in the nation! One of my close friends car was stollen within 5 minutes when he went in to get groceries. Bridgeport is a very rundown depressing city and falling into a detriot like atmosphere, yes its becoming much like detroit. The Weather here sucks! Its always humid winters bring slushy snow springs are overcast and rainy summers are hott and humid. If you have any idea of moving here please consider this message heavily. For Families I suggest living in Monore, or Trumbull they are a little less expensive and have some charm, but its fading away to kruption, If you could i would move anywhere but the state of connectiuct maybe like East Pennsylvaina or Westchester County.

Fairfield, CT - 6/19/2006

Fairfield CT and Fairfield County in CT is an extremely expensive place to live. That is why we are looking to relocate for our retirement. We would like nothing more than to become "snowbirds" but that is just not possible with the average price of a house in Fairfield being about $450K. It's a beautiful big city with a small town atmosphere and we would have loved to ahve stayed here forever, but we cannot afford that.

about living in bridgeport - 7/19/2005

I have moved here from NC and it was the worst move ever!!!!!! This city is dirty, the schools are horrible and the safety is very disturbing. Before anyone moves here, try to find a better place or stay where you are and save your money for a better place. I have been here for 2 years and I'm ready to go.
