From NJ to AZ - 2/16/2022

I have lived here three years. I live just north of the I-10 in the Sierra Highland neighborhood, just down the street from the Skyline Regional Park. There are pros and cons to living here. At times, the smell of manure and possibly the smell from the chicken/egg plants nearer to Tonopah can be quite off putting if you are not used to that. Additionally, we have a problem with quite a lot of flies at times. Last year I was stung by a scorpion in my house. That was not fun. We have become more diligent in trying to keep them away. Since our home backs to the desert, although we have a brick wall that separates us-- we do have rattlesnakes (three of my neighbors had rattlesnakes in their backyards---the firemen came and took them. We also have rattlesnakes that breed in the bushes at our park which also backs to the desert.) We have hawks, owls, eagles, coyotes and mountain lions. Two years ago, a mountain lion jumped the neighbor's wall and mauled their puppy, it had to be put to sleep. We are living in their territory, so we do have to be careful. However, we just got notice that the desert behind us, full of saguaro cacti will be built upon. Acres and acres of land will soon be houses, and will back right up to the mountains. I suppose that our wildlife will not be as prevalent here after the houses are built. I am going to miss the gorgeous desert, the cacti, the wildlife. I love to hear the coyotes at night and I am not concerned about the wildlife, I moved here to be as near to the wildlife and mountains as possible, even though I was stung by a bark scorpion! So I am very sad to hear that the development will be here beginning Nov '22. What can you do? It is progress, but it sucks for us. There isn't a lot going on here, aside from a Walmart and a Fry's grocery store. But, there is Abrazo Medical Center if one should need a family doctor or the ER. I think they are great there, and it is a very clean medical center. There are some fast food restaurants as well. The things that we need are conveniently located. The things we like to do, such as bowling or going to the diner or Barnes and Noble and Target, we have to travel to either Goodyear or Surprise. The winter is fabulous here, I love happy, sunny days! The summer seems to go on forever and it is so hot that one needs to get one's errands done before 9 or 10 am. Last year, we escaped the heat and went to Flagstaff for vacation. But, I would still take the heat over horrible winters and gloomy rain and clouds any day. Overall, I am glad we moved here. It is much better than where I lived before--which was Burlington County, NJ. I would choose Buckeye, AZ over NJ any day of the week.

The fast growing city in the US. - 12/25/2021

Amazing place to live! You get the feel of freedom again. Lots of amazing restaurants to eat at near by. Tons of awesome sport bars near by too. Growth is rapid and you can see this new modern smart home city slowly becoming a force within the Phoenix area. You get a mix of what you want, city, rural, farm, and lots of get away place to see. Since the move our life has gotten more peaceful and the slower pace of life is so enjoyable. Summers are hot, but a pool, air conditioning and local lakes help with that. Winter weather is perfect. This city is a Diamond. Don’t take too long to get here. Prices will only keep going up.

Horrible, Horrible people!!! - 2/5/2016

My family and I moved to Buckeye from Yuma in early 2011. At first I loved it here. It's actually a nice clean city. But then more and more people started moving here. Now we are so over run with people that no matter where you go there is an insane and unrealistic amount of people. And to make matters worst about 95% are rude as hell. Half of them don't speak English. The city is so underdeveloped its pathetic. My husband has been putting in for a job transfer almost any where. We are being driven out of our city by all those rude, mean people that are EVERYWHERE!! It's sad and unfair, we bought a beautiful house, have our kids established in their schools but we're so unhappy with herds of assholes we can't stand it any longer.

Small town friends - 2/20/2011

I have had a completely wonderful experience. I bought a home in Buckeye, and have yet been able to move in due to other issues, but my neighbors call me long distance regarding my home, chase away intruders, and generally keep a close watch on my home. I used local people to fix the locks and air conditioning and they were all extremely friendly. I used a local insurance agent to insure my home and was very pleased with his and his receptionist' friendliness and courtesy. I am looking forward to moving in next month. I am a very friendly, up front, person, so I have rarely had problems making friends and Buckeye seems no different to other small towns. Remember, it is sometimes harder to break into small town social scenes because people have been around a long time, and are sometimes skeptical of new people who may be gone too quickly. A good way to feel welcomed in a small town is to attend worship services and to get involved in charitable projects that help you really know your new community.

What good is Diversity if not shared among each ot - 12/1/2010

When I spoke of people not being friendly, I did say some. As far as a car and AC those aren't my issues at all,so my kitchen nor my cars are not hot. LOL.... I agree the people who work at Ace hardware have good customer service skills, but that still does not explain why most people in Buckeye seem so unfriendly to new people. I have spoken to other people from out of state and the observations and experiences about not feeling so welcome here seem to be the same. Yes you are right, this is the desert folks, but even in the desert one can have good manners! I am sorry Norm, that my Experience living here in Buckeye is not so good and yes I am moving out. P.S. the winters here in Buckeye are great, at least you can enjoy playing your sports and the outdoors :)

Great Place to Live - 11/29/2010

Buckeye is a great place to live. it just depends on where you are from and what you are use to. It is a rural community so everything is spread out. I think the people are very friendly. One day i needed to rent a tool from the local true value/Ace store and they didnt have it that particuler day but the next day, the person over that department dropped it off at my home on his way home. That was great. if you don't like heat get out of the kitchen or out of Az period. It is the desert folks. You do need a good running car with AC. We love the Quietness in the evenings and the beutiful sunny days. We also love the diversity of culture and the many things to do. Come check it out for yourselves, it really is a great place to live.

Unfriendly people in Buckeye! - 11/24/2010

We were astonish to find that some of the folks here in Buckeye AZ. are not so friendly! We thought people from a small town like this with not much going on, would have nice manners if nothing else. Boy were we wrong. We have reached out to our neigbors, with fresh baked goods, we made to say hello, invited people to dinner, who never return the goodwill. We wanted to be friends and good neighbors,But after a year and six months of trying, We haven't been offerd a cup of coffee or know our neighbors names. It is very sad that people are so unfriendly to new comers here. The weather from May to Oct. is so hot, you have no choice but to stay locked up inside and having such unfriendly people around you, makes it hard to live here in Buckeye. My hubby and I are nice respectful baby boomers who have lived in wonderful places throughout the United States and we have always enjoyed our neighbors, friends and communties until now.... We can't wait to sell this home and get out of hot and unfriendly Buckeye, AZ. Not all small towns have a small enjoyable hometown feel! Be careful where you move!!!!!

No independence - 11/20/2009

Here in Buckeye it is mandatory to have a car and if you have kids it's mandatory to have a nanny. This place do not have transportation the school is a 0.95 miles away so we can't get on the school bus, the kids are very bad and disrespectful. Food cost here is very, when I lived in NYC my budget was about $300 a month here it jump to $525 a month. You have more gravel sidewalks then paved sidewalks. Not for the unfit or someone like me with arthritis who have to depend on other people to drive me to the stores. To get a drivers license out here you have to go to about 3 different places to complete, they where to stupid to put it all in one building. We have a DMV but you can only register your car or do emission, ID, drivers test and license you have to go some where else in AZ to get it. Medical coverage out here is a joke I spend more money on buying over the counter then what they would cover. In short you need to be reach or have a very good pension and social security in order to live here.

Smelly and Hot! - 7/31/2009

Buckeye is experiencing growth due to so many people moving into the Phoenix metro area, but it is not so great. To begin with if you are moving here to work in Phoenix and think that the low home price in Buckeye is a great deal you need to think about what you are sacrificing. There are not the same city services such as parks and libraries as there are in Phoenix and when you add in an hour commute to get into Phoenix it sucks. On top of that the temperature here is 3 or 4 degrees hotter than in Phoenix. That doesn't sound like much but when it's 115 degrees outside it makes a difference. Even with the explosive growth that is going on in Buckeye most of the area is undeveloped and smells like cow crap. We are moving out as soon as possible.

Tonopah Parks - 8/25/2008

This is to address the lack of Public Parks in Tonopah, as there isn't any. I couldn't find Tonopah listed in Arizona Cities?. The schools are locked at school closing each day after school, and on weekends. There's absolutely no recreational facilities in the community! no Soccer, Baseball, or Football nothing for our kids. This needs to be addressed by Tonopah and Maricopa County. chuck

The Desert - 8/16/2008

As you would expect, the cost of water and sewage is 10 times higher than on the East Coast or Mid-west. Although there is the newest and largest nuclear power plant just down the street, APS continues to receive annual rate hikes - usually in July of each year.

Hot weather - 8/20/2006

There are about 4 months in which the temperature is 100 or above which makes it uncomfortable. Winter days are great with no snow to shovel. You only have to wear your jacket in the morning because in the afternoon you can strip down to your T-shirt. We have a lot of neighbors have that go away in summer and come back in the winter. That's why we call them snow birds.

Nice place to live. - 3/25/2006

We have lived in Buckeye for 7 months. It used to be a sleepy farming town but now its one of the fastest growing areas in Arizona. The town of Buckeye encompasses a lot of area because there are lots of farms in this area. Sadly these farms are being sold out at an overwhelming rate because the farmers can get at least $45,000 an acre for their land. The weather is beautiful here from October until May. Then, the temperatures can get up into the 100's and stay there until late September. In July we receive lots of humidity because the monsoon season starts. No one complains because we all like to see the rains come. I can honestly say that I have never been so happy with a climate. Its the best.
