Cannon Beach - 8/28/2009

I am a relative newcomer (four years) but the basics of Cannon Beach are: It is a resort-retirement community that is very (and long) popular with Portland residents. It also is a popular summer destination for visitors from British Columbia. The beach is rated as one of the most beautiful in Oregon, if not the U.S. The town is filled - some say overrun -- with restaurants and shops to the point parking can be a problem. Home prices in CB itself do not seem to be declining at the 7% rate listed. Sales are slower, but prices seem to be holding. Oceanfront property -- usually near if not above the $1 million mark -- is especially hard to find. Summers are usually great,winters are depressingly gray and wet. Many people spend at least part of the winter in the U.S. South or in Mexico.
