If you can afford it, Carlsbad is the place - 8/15/2022

I've lived in Carlsbad (92008) for 8 years now and really appreciate all that it has to offer. Yes, ALL of San Diego County is expensive, but Carlsbad has [possibly] the best weather on the planet, is surrounded by great coastal communities with fine and casual dining, good local surf spots, top-tier pickleball, and a terrific opportunities for fun without the elitist feel from residents. If you have the money, there is no better coastal community.

Brutal winters - 12/1/2021

Carlson has the worst winters. It averages about 10 meters of snow per week. Every shop is closed.

Too rude for me, but Climate is nice. - 3/17/2021

Ok, I get it, the climate is mild and tolerable but even that is over-rated when you consider how many cloudy days there are in this town. The sun coming out at 3 and going away at 4 makes it a Sunny day officially which is ridiculous. I guess the things that drove us away besides expensive cost of living is the rudeness of the people, the traffic, the congestion, the smog. People literally will not talk to you much. It is odd. Join something like church and NOBODY talks to you. Try to strike up a conversation and you will get some weird looks. It is such a strange place. If you like alone time and always being by yourself, well, you will love it here.

We're Never Leaving - 5/16/2020

We have lived here for 13 years and raised 3 kids in a great family-friendly area. Great weather, no crime, beautiful beaches, and lagoon, not densely populated. Along with almost all of San Diego coastal county, it is awesome! You would have to be wealthy enough to live in S.D. county coastal places like Del Mar, Solana, or La Jolla, to find something better than Carlsbad.

Carlsbad Rocks - 4/19/2020

We have been in Carlsbad for three years, and we could not be happier with our choice. The weather is perfect--all year. In the LaCosta area where we live there is a daily fresh sea breeze. The air is pristine: aqi is often below 10. Everything is very green, and Carlsbad has done an outstanding job of preserving ecologically sensitive areas. The Batiquitos lagoon is a treasure, teeming with wildlife. The schools are among the best in the country. The historic Carlsbad Village has been beautifully restored and offers a lively arts scene. The white, sandy beaches are, of course, world class. The economy is soaring, and Carlsbad is host to a variety of biotech firms. We are close enough to San Diego to enjoy all the big city benefits while, at the same time, living in a clean, quiet, and safe environment. The only downside that I can think of is the cost of housing--the downside of so many people wanting to live here. (a question for those complaining about the drivers: "Have you ever been to Boston? Or New York?)

The City of Angry Drivers - 5/17/2018

Carlsbad is a horrible city. It really epitomizes the worst of Kalifornia. Superficial, rude people, traffic is horrific. Angry White drivers with road rage everywhere 24 / 7. Carlsbad really sucks there is no redeeming quality. There is no character to the city. C or D beaches compared to Orange County or LA. Other than that, miles and miles of strip malls and industrial business parks filled with angry, rude, drivers going and leaving 24/7. That's Carlsbad.

Talk about unfriendly - 2/25/2018

The people here make Los Angeles look like the friendliest place on earth! That is nearly impossible. Go to the gym and they don’t even say hello when you come in. Or won’t even shake your hand after Sunday mass. I live here but not for long. A year is about all my wife and I can stand. Everyone looks away when they walk past you. And I mean all! And no I do not have leprosy! And lack of common sense! Will drive you crazy if you are well educated. Beaches are nice!

A Slice of Heaven - 12/21/2011

We live right across the street from Tamarack State Beach. I walk along the ocean every morning. In the evening, my husband and I walk into Carlsbad Village as we catch another magnificant sunset and go for a cup of coffee and we listen to the live music coming from the Coyote Cantina. This is an incredible place to raise a family. We do not need air conditioning, and we rarely need to turn on the heat. With the real estate market on the decline and the incredible historically low interest rates, you can own a home in some neighborhoods cheaper than you can rent. Now is the time to pick-up prime resort real estate that you will cherish the rest of your life. Carlsbad Premium Outlets are ten minutes from our house. La Costa Spa and Resort www.lacosta.com has been voted as having the number one spa in the country on it's 400 acre property. This city also boasts the most frequented single runway airport in the nation, making travel more convenient than traveling 35 miles south to Lindbergh Field in Downtown San Diego. The Coaster, San Diego’s commuter train, is a convenient alternative for commuters traveling into San Diego. Three spectacular lagoons, considered sensitive ecosystems, are sacred lands for bird watching and nature walks. Besides the many miles of beaches, hills and mesas, the city takes pride in its golf reputation. With ten courses, and plans to build another, golfers flock not only for the game and yearly national tournament, but also to the many manufacturers of equipment and clothing, including professional brands TaylorMade and Callaway Golf. Worth mentioning is the renowned Aviara Golf Course, Four Seasons Resort, and La Costa Resort & Spa, which feature two full courses. Carlsbad is a golfer’s dream city. Carlsbad, California is one of the wealthiest communities in the state and the country. This coastal resort city consists of a prime location, a flourishing commercial sector and an award-winning school district, all of which contribute to the high standard of living in the area. Known for its tourism, Carlsbad is also home to a number of Southern California’s major attractions, such as LEGOLAND California Resort, the Museum of Making Music, K1 Speed and it’s seasonal Flower Fields. Homeowners also have access to four particular school districts, namely Carlsbad Unified, Encinitas Union, San Dieguito Union High and San Marcos Unified.

Carlsbad by the Sea - 8/4/2011

Carlsbad is a true 'best place' with an excellent quality of life. Climate is exceptional probally leading to high cost of living as a downside. Close to San Diego but not too close. Close to the mountains, desert, beach and even a foreign country.

Weather is near perfect. Homes are expensive (x3 national average). Freeways are always full. Plenty of culture to absorb. High unemployment and taxation make California a mixed bag.

Carlsbad is not so bad - great place to live, work - 3/29/2009

My wife and I have a love affair with beautiful Carlsbad, CA. Just south of Oceanside CA, and in North San Diego County, Carlsbad offers great places to see, eating, hiking, and most of all some of the nicest beaches in the USA. Rarely did we experience hot weather in Carlsbad. You do get some overcast mornings and evenings, but the middle of those days are just great. We lived two blocks from the beach, and would walk there along the beach basically every day. Down sides were the train tracks that cut the town in half nearest the beach and the massive 5 freeway also very close to the beach. Although, this is really bareable. With the Flower Fields, the Carlsbad Shops (Outlet Mall), great little downtown with biannual street fair among other great events make Carlsbad one of the finer places to live, visit and enjoy.

Climatopia - 9/4/2008

Yes, indeed, the climate in Carlsbad, CA could be considered almost perfect - thus the term Climatopia. While the weather is idyllic and the beach only 10 minutes away, you pay dearly for this setting. Not only is housing still thru the roof and all other cost-of-living items @ top dollar (food, gas, utilities, etc.), you can't beat the weather!!!! So why are we looking to move??? Cuz weather ain't everything!!! How about a better sense of community? How about people caring for this beautiful environment that surrounds them? Total lack of progressive politics - it's a Republican bastion and all about bashing those whose opinions differ. Time to move on to an area where people give more than lip service to family values!!! Here, plop your kid in front of a video game and leave him for hours - what about reading books? playing games outside in the PERFECT weather? what about learning to interact socially with peers? How about really making a commitment to funding schools and keeping class sizes at managable levels? Oh well, we'll find our utopia yet - even if it isn't climatopia - we need our connection to the greater social body more than the sun.....miss real people/tired of the plastic SoCal consummable lifestyle. Maybe we'll catch you in your perfect town as we set off on our upcoming adventure.
