The local independent/city school Corbin Independent School Systems, is a very good system, particularly for the area. There are two nearby colleges in the surrounding cities (Williamsburg-University of the Cumberlands, and Barbourville-Union College). There is not much to do as far as entertainment goes, so there is usually good support for the athletic teams.

Corbin is a nice enough town to raise your kids or grandkids in, since its quiet and relatively safe of bad crimes compared to much of the rest of the USA, but if you are looking for a good job forget it. What few jobs are here will be given to the people known to the bosses. You know the old saying "its not what you know but who you know" ??
Thats very true here. There's good and bad about Corbin, just like any town in this country. There is a lot of racism, and "gold ole boy" attitude here, but maybe some people are trying to get with the times and come out of the dark ages. What I personally find to suck the worst is the utility companies, tho. Its bad enough there are 3 electric companies for such a small town, but to then not be able to choose which to use sux even worse as RECC is very expensive, and they refuse to work with people if they cant pay in full. Doesnt matter what that they buy electricity of KU for pennies nor what laws say about shutting people off, they will do it anyhow. Then the community service agencies will say either they have no funds to help or if you live too far out of the city limits they refuse to help. Im talking about CUE-they say if you are more than 5 miles from their office they cannot help even tho they are supposed to help Corbin residents. Bell-whitley never has any funds. Even Vocational Rehab doesnt do what it is supposed to do for people. You miss one appointment, even due to illness, it wont matter if you call to let them know, they will drop you anyhow. I think it is all a matter of who you know if you want and need help.
As for weather, its usually not too bad, its bearable in comparison to most of the country other than the humidity is horrible. Food is fairly inexpensive as is tobacco and pop, and most entertainment-tho there isnt much to entertain here. If you like outdoorsy stuff you will be in a good place, at least in warm weather. Churches are plentiful so pretty much no matter what denomination you are, you will find a church you like. There are a lot of schools but most have a bunch of backwards retards running them and working in them-if you are a teacher, sorry but its how I see it. I could give a hundred examples here but wont. Plenty doctors here too, some bvery good, some not, but I wouldnt take one of my cats to the local hospital-a bunch of retards there too who think they know everything and dont know squat, plus refuse to listen to what the patient says. There are plenty restaurants, and

Corbin is way behind in many ways and feels stuck in history. It continues to be a "dry" area inhibiting growth from other business because they are unable to sell alcohol i.e. restuarants, hotels etc. It's a beautiful area with so much to offer in air quality, recreation, land and housing costs, but as long it it stays stuck, I see no future here..........
