Deltona is a ideal place - 7/19/2022

My husband and I bought a house in Deltona, FL in 2015 and have lived here ever since. Our house is on a waterfront and it is beautiful. When my husband retires we plan on staying put as you can’t beat the location. We are within an hour’s drive of the ocean, all the attractions in Orlando, and a few airports. It’s just the ideal location. Our town is quiet and cost of living on par with the rest of Florida. Our neighbors are awesome people as we couldn’t ask for better. We luckily have not been victims of any crimes. We have a fire station and police station only a half mile away. Our state is run by the best Governor possible and our freedoms are protected. My husband and I are both prior military and have lived in several states and overseas. Florida by far, as we both agree, is the best place that we’ve ever lived. The awesome weather is just an added bonus.

Finding it impossible to move out of Miami for lac - 1/29/2016

What did I read about hard to find healthcare for seniors in Deltona?? We are trying to move out of Miami, which has become incredibly expensive to somewhere where we can live and enjoy our golden years. Not too active (I am disabled) so only grocery and once in a while go to a mall. But healthcare (Medicare Advantage plans) is of upmost importance to us. Any comments?? We do not qualify for any government assistance, but just plain Medicare is too expensive for my healthcare needs. I never expected it to be so terribly difficult to move out, but Medicare will not give us information without a zip code (where we are moving to) and I cannot give them one until I sell my home in Miami, which I can't sell because I can't find insurance anywhere else! Ridiculous.... Thanks for any comments.

Deltona..great weather! - 9/1/2013

I love that we are 30 miles inland. This protects us somewhat from Hurricane damage. Winters are amazing...from November until April, it is wonderful. A few cool days and nights, but I love bringing out the coat or jacket.Summers are hot, but lately the northeast has had hotter summers than we have had. Actually, a great deal of the country has had hotter summers. Perhaps because Florida is a peninsula and we have water on three sides, this may help us out :)

Deltona in need of some nice families! Come join o - 9/1/2013

Deltona is a nice place to live. Being that it is the largest city in Volusia county (you would think Daytona Beach would be larger, but it's not)there is not perfection. However, the location is pretty great. Midway between Daytona Beach and Orlando, it doesn't get any better. The cost of living is decent and taxes are low. Schools in Florida rank 6th in nation. I've grown to like Deltona over the years. I would like to see some more Northern families join our city and stay. I moved here from Pennsylvania 19 years ago. I do miss the sense of community I felt up North and that's why I'd like to see some more Northerners come on down!

Nice place with lots of choices - 2/20/2013

When reading reviews about Deltona, remember that Deltona is the largest city in Volusia County. There are many different areas within the city, from lower income to luxury homes. And Deltona is still growing. Additionally, Deltona is close to so much, while still maintaining a quiet charm. 30 minutes to Daytona Beach, 30 minutes to the Seminole Town Square Mall. 40 minutes to Orlando.

Need MORE families! - 12/26/2009

Deltona's cost of living is relatively low, but the most important thing to consider is the quality of life here. You are in a perfect location--between Daytona Beach and Orlando. The most important thing to consider, though, is the quality of your neighborhood. It doesn't matter how low a cost is to live--if you don't have the right neighborhood, COST does matter! We need more stable NON-Transient families here. Some people stay, but your renters come and go like a revolving door. It would be great to have some more college-educated, middle-class families here. Don't expect a great salary or job here in Deltona. Deltona is mostly a bedroom community to Orlando. You will have to travel to your job....unless you are a teacher or work in a doctor's office. They don't get paid much either.

Things are looking up! - 9/24/2009

If you like the heat and year round warm temps - this is a great place to live. Half-way between Orlando and Daytona - it gives you the best of both worlds! Nearby communities such as Debary are more expensive and Deland has a lot of crime. Like any growing community, Deltona has had it's share of issues, but I have lived here 20 years and would recommend it for any growing family. Just hop on the interstate and you are good to go - beaches in one direction and theme parks and shopping in the other. True, there is no night life - but that usually brings more crime. You do not have far to go to party if that is what you like. There are grocers and strip malls for everyday needs. There are parks to play in - a golf course - and plenty of lakes to fish in. And it is amazing to stand in your drive-way and watch the shuttle when it takes off - especially at night. Everyone has seen economic hard times. Don't write off Deltona without checking it out!

Don't move here... - 7/10/2009

Deltona has really been hit hard with the economy. Many people have moved out and you see so many empty houses all throughout Deltona. Deltona has a lot of renters. There are some nice sections here and Dewey OBooster park is spectacular. Still, there's not much for young adults to do. Our van got broken into along with about 9 other cars by an 18 and 20 year old. Also, recentlyh, A woman was attacked in broad daylight at a local grocery store at gunpoint. I don't feel as secure as I once did. I am anxious to leave Deltona. I do love the location (midway between Orlando and Daytona Beach) and love my home, but the area definately has changed and NOT for the better.

Depends on what you're looking for..... - 5/1/2009

1. Quiet- Very, very quiet. If you're a retiree or someone who goes to bed at 8PM sharp then Deltona is for you. If like to burn the midnight oil then Deltona is not the place to groove. 2. Residential- Deltona is mostly a bedroom community for Orlando or Daytona Beach. If shop till you drop is your thing then head for Sanford or Orange City instead. 3. No jobs- If you live in Deltona then you'll find most jobs are in Daytona or Seminole and Orange Counties. 4. Policing- Deltona is patrolled by the Volusia County Sheriffs Department. They're not there when you need them but seem to be johnny-on-the-spot if you go 5 miles over the speed limit. 5. Outrageous rents- Expect to pay $750 + for even the crappiest of apartments. 6. Conservative as hell- Bush would love to settle here. In summary if you're a retiree, think 9PM is staying up late, or have $250,000 + dollars to put into a tiny 2 bedroom house then Deltona should be your first choice. However, if you're young and not looking for a snoozoid suburb then head up to DeLand. There you will find a laid-back college town feel, an excellent and walkable downtown (with great bars, restaurants, bookstores, etc.), more than 2 cars with Obama-Biden stickers all at literally half the price of Deltona.

The Frendly City - 6/20/2007

Deltona became a city in 1995 with about a poulation of approx. 50,000, our population today (2007) is over 80,000. This is a bedroom community with no real industry. the weather is great here in central Florida (if you like sun shine) Deltona is 30 miles north of Orlando, FL., 75 miles south of Jacksonville & 80 miles NE of Tampa St Pete. Florida has the best State & county Park system in the USA. We thrive on year round golf, boating, hiking, biking, fishing & swiming for the outdoors people and Orlando has all the culture you can wish for. I just love this place.

DELTONA - 2/19/2007

I've lived in Deltona since 1996. When we moved here, our block was filled with retirees. Now, we have mostly younger families. Depending on where you live in Deltona, it can be a good or bad experience. Crime appears higher in certain areas. It seems we have more people moving here from NYC area because at one time, the cost of living was lower here. THis is not necessarily the case now. Deltona is quite a bit disorganized. You will find a block of nice newer homes and then on the next block, older homes mostly occupied by renters. Your New Yorkers will say it is a quiet place to live. Others like me will tell you that it can be quiet, but it also has a lot of people. No one really bothers you here that I see. We definately don't have the crime which Orlando has so it's a nice location away from the big city. You really have to judge for yourself. I am always skeptical when I read reviews which are either completely negative or completely positive. The negative ones may or may not be true--sometimes i think people write them to keep people from moving there. The all positive ones are only opinions and no place can be all positive. When people exist, there's always some negative. I would say visit places for yourself at different times of the day and judge for yourself.

Dullsville - 7/24/2006

We are a middle age couple living here in Deltona, Fl. We find it extrememly boring. Hardly any shops, no movie theater, restuarants-forget it ! Nothing for the young adults and teens to do here either. Summers are extrememly hot and humid. Looking to relocate out of here during the fall to perhaps the midwest region of the USA.

Great Place to Live for Seniors-- - 2/22/2006

It is a great place for seniors to live--but it is becoming too expensive to live here. I am considering moving further north to St. Augustine which has 4 seasons, and the cost real estate is not insane yet. There is a lot to do there and it is a great mix of cosmopolitan and the beach. Delray Beach is becoming to expensive to live here.
