Don’t buy into the negativity - 10/16/2019

I live in Binghamton, which is very close. Endicott is similar, and a very nice place to visit or live. This is just my experience. It’s a beautiful area and the schools are pretty good. I hear a lot of negative talk about both areas, but you can’t come here and expect it to be NYC. It has its good and bad, but is not filled with crime in the way people describe.

Quality of living in Broome County/Binghamton/Endi - 9/7/2014

Could be good to raise kids but nothing more. Move when they become teens! There really isn't much to do outdoors or in;or in you're own neighborhoods. People prove to be stand-offish, and anti-social in many ways. Crime is alot higher than reported. When I moved here 8 years ago, on the news all I then heard of was the murders and drug busts! We like to point fingers mostly towards others if we can but mostly here its the locals.Lot's of chemical dumps took place here, fracking, poor care of housing in most places dressed to look good. Lot's of mold in many places and areas due to lot's of flooding. I went through 2 floods since living here in a 2 year span. Transportation is terrible! From mass to cabs. The attitudes of most of the locals is really unfriendly and bad. People of color will not find it easy to live here. You will need a car because transportation doesn't make you feel you're patronage counts. Now that IBM has left many years ago, the county caters to College students who generate the revenue and the working class is disregarded. If your a non-smoker, this town is strictly about smoking. Housing can be affordable. I overrall don't recommend here. One can do alot better than here.

Endicott and surrounding areas as a whole... - 8/11/2014

I was born and raised in the 13760 zip code, and attended several of the local schools. I completed my education in the Union Endicott school district, where I attended both the middle school and high school. I am now nearly 10 years out of the schooling system, with a family of my own, and I want nothing more than to be out of this area before I am faced with sending my son to the Endicott, Binghamton, or Johnson City school districts. Unfortunately, in my experiences, the issue was not a lack of skilled teachers and staff, or a deficient curriculum, but rather a rough neighborhood, with far to much drugs, violence and crime taking place in and around the school campuses. While a student at UEHS I observed many of my peers on their paths to destruction, and have read about dozens of them in the paper, and heard news reports on even more of them all since graduating... The drugs available to anyone, let alone a teen in this area, are disgusting. The cost of renting in this area, is pretty low, and it is TO GOOD TO BE TRUE!! Be wary when you find a home for rent, or even for sale in this area. If you are surprised by the "deal" you would be getting, it is probably because the home or apartment are located in very sketchy parts of town. Don't get me wrong, there are some BEAUTIFUL homes hidden in these awful neighborhoods, and there are some beautiful neighborhoods hidden in this run down town... it is just in my opinion there are far more negatives than positives, and I personally fear the idea of raising my family in this area. It is a shame, because like I said, there are some great teacher, some great homes, some great neighborhoods, and a rich culture because of the boom that took place in this area back when when IBM and EJ were big, but those industrial giants, and many other, have long since left, and it is my advice as a life long resident, that this area is not conducive to raising, a safe, healthy, happy family. You can make due in this area if it is where you are stuck, but I would not advise coming here if you have other options. Work here is also limited. If you are set on living in the Broome or Tioga areas, consider looking into the Owego side of Apalachin, Chenego Valley, and Chenego forks, or Windsor.

Tale of two cities? - 8/21/2012

many sections of Endicott are still thriving and beautiful. There are however areas in deep decline, especially at and around North Street. There are still great Italian restaurants in the area and the school system is still pretty good

Quality of life in Endicott. - 6/13/2009

New Yorks southern tier region often gets a bad rap, but the quality of life in endicott really is wonderful. You can really enjoy your surroundings.

to be avoided - 1/27/2008

... unless you're into living in decaying industrial towns. endicott (and greater binghamton in general) is very much like a smaller-scale copy of other upstate new york rust belt cities. so, if a tiny version of buffalo or syracuse is appealing to you, then you might like it here. the economy has been in a steady state of decline for the past few decades. it's cold, snowy, grey, and generally unpleasant in terms of climate. oh, and it's especially well-suited for those who like toxic plumes of trichloroethylene in the groundwater. while it's certainly far from the worst place to live, i would strongly recommend against living in endicott.

Terry, I beg to differ. - 4/20/2007

I live in the area of Endicott, I have for my whole 17 years of living. I currently attend of the of the best schools in this area, Union-Endicott High School. This area is not "crime ridden" or "dismal" it's actually very nice. I think people like you should acutally live in the place before disrespecting it. Good day. -Stefan

Quality of Life = Lousy - 3/26/2007

Not a place to move to. Job growth is dismal, criminals are pouring in, taxes on everything are skyrocketing. If you are young with a family, look elsewhere! This is a place for the elderly to spend their last years, because they couldn't or wouldn't leave. This applies to the whole Broome County and Central New York areas as well...
