| FOLSOM WEATHER - 8/5/2015
Folsom has the worst air quality of any city in the Sacramento region per Sac Metro Air Quality Management. Do not move there if u have any respiratory issues, or u like to breath relatively clean air.

| Folsom is a great town - 7/20/2013
Folsom is a great little town of about 70,000 people. A half hour from Sacramento, an hour and a half from Tahoe, it sits in a good location at about 320 feet altitude. It has grown immensely in the 14 years I've lived here: several shopping centers, light rail, new theaters (movie and stage) among other things. The climate is easily bearable except for some occasional heat waves which can be brutal at over 100. Boating, swimming in the nearby Folsom lake ~ Many trails ~ Good school system ~ Low crime ~ All in all, Folsom is a great place ~

| Air quality is poor, unfortunately - 5/31/2012
I think Folsom is ideal in many ways but it shares Sacramento's lousy air quality (1.5 out of 100 per this site). Sometimes it's worse than Sacramento when a smog inversion layer sits at Folsom's higher elevation and/or bad air gets blown eastward, backing up against the hills. This is a big consideration if you're into exercise, especially outdoors. I noticed a difference in lung capacity after moving away from that whole area to the Bay Area. The worst air also tends to coincide with oppressive heat.

| Thinking of Moving - 7/3/2011
I am thinking of moving from Corvallis, OR to Folsom, CA. I would appreciate some advice. The main categories I am evaluating are the Economy (I just graduated from OSU with a BS degree in accounting), People (are they friendly, educated, conservative/liberal, age range?), Weather (I kindof know this one already...) and the landscape (I kind of know this one already also...).
Thanks for the advice!

| Great Family Town - 8/18/2009
Folsom is a great place to raise a family. It has a lot of convenience, affordable housing and friendly people. It is very community oriented and it has many outdoor recreational activities.

| Best Little City on Earth - 8/18/2009
Ok, so I am being a little bias. I have lived and worked in Folsom for the last 9 years and can find absoutly nothing to complain about. Folsom is close to everything, downtown Sacramento is 20 minutes West, South Lake Tahoe is about an hour drive East. Employment, recereational activities, shopping, community services.... everything you can ever need is right here.

| housing - 4/21/2009
Housing in California has always been high. With lots of government spending our state will have to raise taxes. Can this area hold the prices it once commanded? We doubt it; so with that in mind we are looking to relocate out of this state for our retirement years.
California will remain a wonderful place to live. However, if you didn't save a lot of money during your working years you are out of luck retiring here.

| Great Community - 10/28/2008
I have lived in Folsom for 20+ years and can tell you it is extremely well rounded with major employers, shopping, recreation, good schools, art/culture, historic district and more. Location is exceptional in that you are just over an hour away from Lake Tahoe or Reno, and in the opposite direction 1.5 hours to Napa Valley or San Francisco. It can get hot in the summer (95) and winters are very mild. The only down side is that housing can be a little more costly than most of the surrounding suburbs. Overall a great place to live!

| It's too expensive - 3/18/2008
I like the atmosphere in Folsom, the city is nice and there are plenty of good places to eat and shop, but the entire Northern CA area around Sacramento is just too expensive. Housing prices, gas prices, you name it. It all costs too much. I am hoping to be out of N. CA by the end of 2009. If money is not an issue and you like living and working in a community of people who are on the whole materialistic and selfish, where life is a competition and a race to see how much you can acquire, then N. CA would be a good choice for you.

OK - Folsom isn't what it used to be........small and quaint. But at 70K and growing its still a nice place to live as long as you're not in a hurry to get anywhere.........enough said.

| SuzQ - 5/15/2007
Mild winters; few frost warnings, fewer freezes. Most rain from January to March; otherwise dry with virtually no rain from May to November. HOT in the summer, 100+ degrees for days at a time. Can also tend to be humid. Worst problem is poor air quality, with more and more "Spare the Air" days every year, during which people are asked not to drive unless necessary and young children, the elderly, and people with respiratory problems are encouraged to stay indoors. Not a place for anyone with asthma, emphysema, pulmonary fibrosis, or other serious, chronic respiratory ailments.

| TWO THUMBS UP! - 1/1/2007
I have lived in Folsom for 3+ years, but have been coming to Folsom for shopping and entertainment for 10 years. Here are some facts that I have experienced living in Folsom:
- It's a very clean town and a large majority of the town is new and fresh
- Folsom has a great "old town" that is closed down for traffic several times throughout the year for events such as the weekly Farmer's Market, Folsom Live that features about 10 bands and other entertainment, etc.
- Folsom has a lot of great restaurants - any type of food you could want.
- Great shopping! It also has outlet stores, a Costco and Sam's, and most major stores.
- Folsom hosts many annual events such as the Folsom Rodeo, a Renaissance Faire, a Gourd Festival, etc. It seems like there's always something going on.
- For those who are into outdoor activities, Folsom has miles and miles of great hiking and cycling trails, Folsom Lake, the American River, Lake Natomas, and has easy and quick access to Lake Tahoe, snow skiing, kayaking, sailing, etc.
- Folsom has a great parks and recreation department with activities for the very young to the very old.
- Folsom has great schools. I wish I had moved here while raising my daughters - there's so much here for kids. It's a very family-oriented community and has lots of jobs for the older kids. There is also a junior college in Folsom and it's not far from the university in Sacramento and Davis.
- Folsom is also pet friendly. A large majority of the apartments allow pets and dogs are allowed on the trails. There are also lots of dog parks that aren't too far away. Most of the trails have doggie poop bags and garbage cans available in case you forget to bring your own.
- Folsom has tons of great parks and playgrounds.
- Folsom is safe. I'm a single woman and never feel frightened. If you look at the crime stats, they are extremely low. However I still think you should always use caution and be safe no matter where you live.
- Folsom has a Kaiser hospital and a Mercy Hospital. It's also not far from other major hospitals down in Sacramento.
My only "negative" comments are: (1) if you want to buy a home, it's expensive. Most well-maintained homes in good neighborhoods start in the $400-500K range. However you can still find affordable apartments. I'm paying $1,035 for a one bedroom apartment that overlooks the wetlands. The nicer apartments can cost up to $1,300 for a one bedroom. (2) It's HOT in the summer. Last summer we

| Nice place to live.... - 10/3/2006
I lived in Folsom for about a year probably one of the best places I have lived, I also lived in towns close by for about 5 years.
Folsom is great, it has some wonderful homes, nice shopping centers and is close to everything. You can drive to Lake Tahoe in about an hour or go shopping in some great malls within 30 minutes, or go to a concert in Sacramento in about 40 minutes. It has a very cute and active downtown and always has something going on.
The only downside is the traffic and it gets HOT in the summer but other than that no complaints.
