Best City in Texas - 5/5/2021

This city is one of the best in Texas! It has a small-town atmosphere with friendly people. It has a strong southern charm feel, and there are plenty things to do. The city also has a strong church culture, many of the churches downtown look beautiful. Many out-of-state people have been flooding the city recently, although Fort Worth makes its western roots obvious and the city is amazing!

Fort Worth is the best. - 4/13/2021

I moved here from the Midwest in 2015. The best decision I could have made. Living in North Fort Worth, I couldn’t have for a better feel coming from a high crime rate city.

Hidden Gem - 9/4/2020

Fort Worth may have a reputation for being an overgrown cowboy town, but that's not an accurate representation. The city's art institutions are the finest in Texas and among the best in the U.S. The Kimbell, the Fort Worth Museum of Modern Art and the Amon Carter Museum of American Art are all world-class and simply phenomenal. Bass Hall is ranked as one of the world's greatest opera halls. Fort Worth's downtown is repeatedly recognized as one of the nation's best. It's a kid-friendly city, with lots of water parks and amusement parks nearby, as well as a science museum that's tailored to younger folks and includes an IMAX theater. The Fort Worth Zoo was recently named the best zoo in the country by USA Today. There are more than 100 miles of biking/hiking trails along the Trinity River. A gazillion restaurants serve food of every imaginable nationality, with Mexican food dominating. Fort Worth seems smaller than it is, but it's a big city, with a population greater than Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Denver, Miami, San Francisco, Seattle or Washington, D.C. Yes, there are trees in Fort Worth. There are big ones (oak, pecan, cottonwood, bald cypress, etc.) in low-lying neighborhoods along creeks and river bottoms. Rolling prairie is the dominant landscape feature. July and August are hot as hell, the rain stops and everything turns temporarily brown. Mid-September brings relief from heat and drought. There are fall colors, but their intensity varies from year to year, and for the most part they can't compete with a New England fall. Autumn and spring here are exceedingly pleasant. In the winter, expect one or two light snows, and, every 10 years or so, a big one. Winter ice storms are a thing, and can make driving sporty. By mid-April, afternoons are warm and muggy. May is very warm, June is hot; July and August are very uncomfortable, and a good time to vacation in the mountains.

Too Hot for this New Englander - 6/25/2020

Originally I am from the northeast and moved to the Fort Worth area 13 years ago for my job. I have never liked the heat and I really miss being outdoors in the summer. What can I say, I miss the four seasons. Fort Worth is just different, it's fun to visit and go to the stockyards and watch the cowboys on horses, their food is incredible and the people overall are nice. I just miss trees, things that are green, mountains, the ocean, and those beautiful fall leaves.

Fort Worth - Large City that feels like a town - 1/23/2019

I lived in Fort Worth for 5 years while going to college and it amazed me how that large of a city could have such a tight-knit community feel to it. Unlike many major cities in the US, Fort Worth has a very safe and walkable downtown area with bars, restaurants, music/comedy venues and plenty of family-fun events. While many people complain about the weather and thus rate the city poorly, it is sunny about 225-275 days a year and there is plenty to do outside even when it is 100+ because of the trinity river and the patios with misting fans and shade. Not to mention, Fort Worth is a quick growing city so there is always a new restaurant/area to go explore. Even living in Dallas now, I will always call Fort Worth my 1st home. GOD BLESS TEXAS

Hot flat and ugly - 2/10/2018

I lived here for 3 years and it was a trial every day. However the good about it was we made a lot of friends the people are the best part about FTW. Fort Worth is popular but I believe it offers more for businesses and corporations than for the residents. It’s expensive to live there. The property taxes are astronomical and you get very little for it. The roads and infrastructure are appalling. Traffic is ubiquitous and the potholes never get fully repaired. When we moved there (with a promotion and a raise mind you) our discretionary income went DOWN because of the property taxes. Also it’s bereft of natural beauty. All you see is prairie, stunted “trees” and the roofs of houses. Finally the smell of petroleum and fertilizer never goes away. If you like relentless heat mixed with occasional ice storms then this is the place for you. Crime is becoming a big issue. If you leave your car in your driveway expect to get it broken into. And the police will not do anything about it. There are so many things I could say but it would take too long. Think twice before moving here if you can. I got out as quick as I could.

not too bad - 7/8/2015

Actually, the only thing I dont like is the weather. Fort Worth has a reasonable cost of living and for the most part the people are friendly. The sweltering weather for most of the year is not fun.

culture, cowboys, and charisma - 5/31/2015

Fort Worth rocks! Everything under the sun to have fun with. We have culture(amon carter, kimball), cowboys(old stock yard, western heritage), and charisma(hi ya'll)rolled up in one big enchilada! Fort Worth can boast about our bike trails, botanical gardens, fine shopping and dining(nearly every cuisine you can think of)to enjoy. We have a interesting climate(drought then floods), but you can ride your bike or golf even in the very mild winter here most days. We have jobs, medical centers, recreation opportunities abound, good schools, diverse cultures and people. Traffic is a mess, but that is why we keep growing, once you stay in fort worth, it's hard to leave. Did I mention the Tex-Mex cuisine here? some of the best in land.

Pick your area carefully in fort worth - 10/7/2014

The 76132 is heaven. Multiple private schools. Great shopping. Like its on little town with the conveniences of the big city very close. It is conservative in this area . I preferred this for my children. Many gated neighborhoods. Love it

Small town feeling in a Great City - 7/18/2013

We moved to Fort Worth last year after living in several different cities across the country over the past 20 years. Like so many folks we'd been looking for the small town with city amenities. Our moves were all corporate transfers. So we were completely amazed to land here and find that this is what we'd been looking for. The city has a great outdoor trail system, an arts scene, lots of restaurants, great public transportation, and short commute times. The weather is hot in the summer months, but the rest of the year makes up for it. Now to be clear I am not talking about living out in the suburbs but in the city. What makes Fort Worth special for us is the Fairmount Historic District. This is our home. This is a neighborhood where people porch sit and share conversation with their neighbors. Where young families are moving in to give that small town experience to their children. The homes are from the early 1900s and because it is an historic district many people move here to restore these old gems. We can walk to shops, restaurants, bars, and grocery stores. Our neighborhood has a little library, an arts center, and a community garden complete with chickens. As I would meet neighbors all would share the same sentiment that this feels like a "real" neighborhood, a place these people plan to call home. Here an evening walk can turn into a gathering of neighbors to chat or a spell on the porch sharing a bottle of wine. The down side is the same of any city experience. Some homes are in disrepair and need restoration. There is the occasional property crime. Nothing that detracts from my experience of living here. I sit on my porch and see people working in their gardens, walking, biking, jogging, pushing their babies in strollers down the street, waving and saying hello to one another and restoring beautiful old homes. This is a vibrant community, one I wanted to share with those of you who have been searching for that special place to call home.

Cost of living is excellent here, as are housing prices, but it is awfully hot in the summers. Not many close outdoor areas for hiking and other recreation.

Don't come to Fort Worth if you have health proble - 3/15/2013

My children relocated me here from Denver, CO due to the cold weather. I was having respitory issues, and back problems. But this was a HUGE MISTAKE! First of all the Doctors here are a joke at best. I have had to change doctors about 5 times in 2years. I had a doctor that her office had roaches! She still used the chart method and kept losing important information in my chart. Then all the doctors asked me why I didn't bring my medical record, and I couldn't believe that they didn't have forms to just send to your old doctors office in order to get your records. They actually thought people should be running around with stacks of their hospital records when they moved from another place. Then because I have pain, I have had the worst time just trying to get my medicine. It seems that a lot of people in Fort Worth, abuse pain medication here, and so it makes it hard for people who really need it. Also, they take forever to get you in to see anyone, and when you do they can't help you half the time. They are very unorganized, and talk to you like you are crazy. They are too relaxed in their work, and prefer to chat than help you. I now have new illnesses, Allergies being one, and so it's gotten really bad. I also have MRSA, and have just been walking around with it, as they have yet to get me in to see a Infecious Desease Doctor in over 4 months. But, I told them that I had it two years ago, and they just poo-pood me about it and sent me to a Dermatologist who just gave me a cream, and even after I told him the cream was not working he just keep giving me creams that didn't work. I hate this place, but its hard to keep moving from city to city, so I am stuck. I don't like anything about this place. I feel the people here are very unprofessional. and although they can be chatty, they are not friendly. I have no friends here, and miss my friends in Denver. I know that I don't need to go back to a cold climate so Denver is out, but Fort Worth was a waste of time, and money. I am very disappointed because they have so many hospitals and not a very good medical system here.

Climate and weather patterns - 11/17/2012

Overall Fort Worth has what I would describe as a mild year round climate with Hot and Relatively Dry Summers, with the recent scorching summer of 2011 being an exceptionally harsh summer which is not truly representative of the Dallas/Fort Worth area's typical summer climate and weather patterns, Winters some years are comparatively almost non-existent.But other winters may have occasional bouts of wintry precipitation as gulf moisture overrides cold and dry air from the north; heavy snowfall and indeed even snowfalls truly noteworthy are rare as a rule. Springlike weather can arrive in almost full force for several days in a row in the middle of January, but Fort Worth winters are rather tame, which is typical of much of the southern u.s. at this latitude, winters as a rule have become noticeably milder overall since about 1995. Spring time weather can bring volatile weather conditions at times but temperatures are comfy. Overall Dallas/Fort Worth has a climate that I would class as Business and Tourist Friendly overall, and all sources class this city's climate as Humid Subtropical, and some state that in lieu of Being classed as Humid Subtropical, this city also exhibits a climate with some traits of a Continental Climate as well.

Since North Texas never really has a winter, the growing season is year-round. Allergens are abundant. Even if you don't have allergies you will suffer here. We are trying to relocate to get away from so much pollen.

Water Shortages - 10/13/2011

We've lived near many Southern metropolitan areas. (New Orleans, Pensacola, Mobile, Nashville, etc.) We moved here in 2004 and have been very happy, but there are areas that haven't pleased us. Texas schools are the worst I've ever been involved with either as parent or teacher. There are decent private schools beyond our budget. It took me one year to get a teaching license, even though the tests I was required to take were the same as in the pervious state we lived. Auto insurance is the highest we've ever had by about $500.00 more a year. We had to pay $400.00 for our son to attend a driving school because the schools here no longer provide Driver's Ed. Our light bill averages $450.00 a month from May-October, and that's with the thermostat set between 82 and 87 degrees! We must drive everywhere since there is a very limited public transportation system, mostly near downtown. We are avid cyclists, but this is not a biker friendly town. Meat is high; a 3-4lb roast cost about $17.00. Strange, considering Fort Worth was/is a major hub for cattle ranching! It has made us a very meatless family, so that's good for our health. Clothes are more expensive. Fresh produce is more expensive and vegetables are not as nice as they should be. Gasoline prices are mid-range. I do not know of anyone without a job except those who don't put much effort into looking. However, I have had problems getting a job as a teacher, supposedly because I don't have a Masters. Every year, Dallas and Fort Worth school districts have "budget" problems at the end of the school year and lay-off 200-400 teachers. Then when the next year begins, there are dozens of openings on their respective websites. There is a church or faith of worship for everybody. I do yoga, zumba, tennis, jog, and cycle. In the fall and winter months, there are lots of races to run or cycle in. The museum district is the best ever - even compared to the Smithsonian Museums in D.C. I go to exhibits several times a year. There are restaurants to satisfy any foodie! Our biggest concern is water. Fort Worth population is expected to exceed 1.5 million in a few years. There is no major water source here and the current drought will have a serious impact for several years. Several cities around Dallas lost their water supplies this summer.
