Like to know what seniors think about the communit - 6/26/2006

On one of my vacations over ten years ago, I visited Gold Beach and found the area quite charming. After having moved from California four years ago after retirement to an small agricultural town in Northern Nevada, I think maybe it's time for another change. The winters here seem to be getting increasingly colder. However, I understand the average rainfall for Gold Beach measures 70 inches of rain per year. Does that mean that I can expect HEAVY rain day after day for months on end in the winter, if I move to Gold Beach? I can't stand more than 2 or 3 cloudy days in a row. Does that mean I should look elsewhere to relocate? As a single, 67 year old pensioner, I am very concerned to learn that Curry County has a dire lack of physicians and medical specialists to serve the people living there, especially the growing senior population. Although I am in relatively good health at the present moment, I am gravely concerned about having to travel a great distance out of the area (e.g., to Medford or Crescent City), when I am much older, in order to get my medical needs met. One last thing regarding the cost of living and the Oregon state income tax--- Having to rely primarily on independently-owned stores rather than big retailers, do you find yourself paying a lot more for groceries and services than you did when you moved from the city you used to live in? Are utility costs high? And, for you seniors living on modest incomes, do you find the Oregon state tax taking a huge bite out of your savings every year? We do not pay state income tax here in Nevada, so the answer to this question is very important to me. I'd like to thank anyone addressing any of my concerns whether you're a pensioner or not.
