Rich culture and world renowned geography. - 2/21/2022

Born here and lived most of my 48 years here. If people haven't gotten out and explored the versatility of this place to entertain a population at my levels and options one might think this place to be s bit dull and lacking. But, with the forests an hour away, the rivers minutes away and a wide variety of recreation options, the activities are limitless. A historic geography rooted in a rich Native American culture, one of the greatest wine industries in the nation and an iconic power grid unique to its kind, this place offers more than just meets the eye by far.

Smoky air, hot, no greenery, bad food - 9/8/2021

I have lived here a few years and it’s the worst place I’ve ever been. The “ nice weather” people refer to is 100 degree hot can’t even stand outside at 9am without sweating in the summer, Oh and almost all summer long there are fires everywhere (can’t even go outside without feeling sick. You are in a basin (aka dust whole) so everything and everything gets blown in. Not many good places to eat and all ethnic food is overpriced and not very good. Not to mention there are not many trees, but atleast they got the tumbleweeds going on??. Oh and almost nothing in east pasco/kennewick is in english, feels like you are in mexico. Get ready for people to discriminate against you if you aren’t mexican and or can’t speak spanish.

Good place to live - 6/6/2021

I’ve lived here for 30 years. Very good place to live. Three major rivers meet here. The Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers. So if you like fishing or boating it’s a great place for that. There’s a lot of good medical facilities here too. The traffic is not very congested and offers good shopping here as well. I wish there was a better restaurant selections. Lots of chain restaurants and not enough of independent restaurants. The weather is pretty good here. The summers are fairly hot and cool winters. Politically it’s on the conservative side although personally I am not. Lots of large parks along the Columbia River. Family friendly environment. The area could use a nice water park. It’s in the center of wine country. The area just keeps growing and real estate has risen sharply lately. It’s a couple hours to the west or east to go to the forest as Kennewick is in the most arid place in the state. All in all it’s a great place to live.

Real Potential to Prosper - 6/28/2019

I visited Kennewick about 2 weeks ago. It was an adventure I won't be forgetting anytime soon. This place seriously has a lot of potential to be worth the time to check out. This is the kind of location with a real community to it. Very welcoming of visitors, tourists and prospective future buyers. A really great melting pot for young people. Obviously this is the kind of place you can go out and meet new people and develop the proper social skills necessary to be successful. Compared to most places in Washington, they easily pale in comparison to Kennewick. I say this being somebody who has been all over the world. Kennewick is definitely up there for upcoming future potential to live in and to really integrate with a good community worth the time of the day.

Nice but limited - 7/27/2018

Less hectic than larger cities, but growing. Pleasing environment and family friendly. It’s a food desert though and customer service is poor. Too many chains and not enough quality local restaurants or stores. Sadly, despite surroundings of agricultural and ranching, most foods are not sourced locally. Pitiful selection of organic and regional foods aside from farmers markets

Beautiful Place to Live - 11/7/2012

We moved from Seattle to Kennewick becuase the cost of living compared to Seattle is 30% lower. I was warned by a couple of people that the people here are more cliquish but i was sure we could get past that. I have found that they were right. It's been very hard to become part of this community as diverse as it seems. We are just in our 60's...middle age, married and faily conservative and friendly, but it has been hard to get rid of that feeling that we just don't "fit" here in spite of our lovely home which we love dearly. We are seriously considering moving away to a remote area. Aside from that, Kennewick is a beautiful place to live and very open and great weather.

Good place if you are working - 8/4/2011

Kennewick bases a lot of its prices on people who work at Hanford. A very high paying job site. Not everyone works there. If you are retired it is even harder. Property values have held quite high in this area, also.

Lovely town, lights of city, Columbia River, bridg - 4/29/2010

I like Kennewick. I moved to Kennewick from Hermiston Oregon about ten years ago, and moved to Eltopia (twenty miles north, in farm country) about two years ago. In Kennewick I love seeing the city lights, the bridges crossing the Columbia River. Kennewick has almost all the services one would want, although for some serious medical conditions requiring specialists or a University, people still drive to Spokane which is a couple of hours away. We have miles of parks and trails along the Columbia River, good fishing, and rural surrounding areas which are beautiful farmland, with many vinyards, wheat fields and potato crops. There is lots of entertainment, outdoor music, a Farmers Market across the river in Pasco, a really nice, larger shopping mall that is aging gracefully and recently on, and new communities springing up on the outskirts with their own nice, albeit smaller, malls. An older downtown area has some nice little shops and restaurants. We have music stores (a must for musicians), several theaters, and one or more playhouses in nearby Richland. We are, I think, an hour or so from from Walla Walla, but I seldom find it necessary to travel except for pleasure. It is a long drive to the coast though, several hours to Mount Rainier I think, and maybe a couple more hours to the coast. The only things I would warn about is that we are a windy, sometimes dusty area, and that the farmers here burn fields, so people who are not smoke/dust tolerant should be advised.

Great place to live when you're a new homebuyer or - 11/4/2009

For the younger crowd, Tri-Cities can seem like a snore. The nicest part about this area though is the low density of traffic, and its location to many of the bigger cities, often just a day trip away. Growing up here, I wanted to live in a bigger city, but after college came back to appreciate the beauty of the area as an older resident. Drugs seem to be a mounting problem here just like in most places in the US, but our law enforcement is on top of the majority of it. Definately live in central to West Kennewick to avoid many of the problems that riddle the east side and somewhat stretch into the neighboring town of Finley. Kennewick is the most modern out of the Tri-Cities, all in all, a decent quality of life, not exciting, but you will be able to move through your days and transition into your nights with ease.

Great place to live! - 10/15/2009

When I first came to Kennewick, I didn't think I would end up moving here, let alone stay here for the last 18 years! The town has grown a lot since then and it remains a great place to live. The cost of living is low, the housing market affordable, there are good jobs available. I love the hot summers. Winters can get a little chilly and occasionally we get some snow (which I love) but we get a lot more sunshine than rain. There's also plenty to do here; water sport, wine tours, fishing, etc. Of course there's the annual hydroplane races, awesome fireworks on the fourth of July, haunted corn maizes in October, the county fair in August, Christmas bazaars and lighted boat parades on the water in December, and more. Plenty of shopping too! We have a very nice mall, big stores like Wal-Mart, Target, Costco, Home Depot, Lowes, Office Max, Best Buy, Fred Meyers, Macy's, JC Penny, Sears, and lots more. Grocery stores like Safeway, Albertsons, Winco, Yokes, etc. Many stores are open late and some 24hrs. There are also three large movie theaters in the Tri-Cities (which feature large digital screens and sound systems and comfy seats). Great restaurants of all varieties. Still, with all this, there's not too much traffic and the people are friendly enough. Indeed a great place to live!

Possible move to the area - 7/6/2009

My family and I are considering moving to the area. Would like to know if the area is growing as far as jobs and recreation. How the school system is, and real estate. Family attractions if any. Any opinion would be appreciated in making this decision. Thank you

Boating - 2/11/2009

If you like boating, the Tri-Cities is the place for you. Summer temperatures can reach into the triple digits making a day on the river fabulous. The Columbia river can hit 72 degrees and the Snake river temperatures can reach 76 degrees in the late summer. You have 3 rivers to choose from for fishing and water sports; the Columbia, Yakima, and Snake rivers. In addition, there are several dams on the snake that make for some warm deep water. It's nice not having to worry about chewing up your prop.

A slower paced life :) - 10/1/2008

Where I live in Kennewick is towards the outskirts of town. My neighbors are within shouting distance but not spitting distance. Their is no such thing as traffic just a short delay some times on some roads.

Tri-Cities, Washington - 6/26/2008

Located in Southeast Washington, the Tri-Cities which include Kennewick, Pasco, and Richland represent the fastest growing metropolitan area in the State. The area has a very competitive business climate and all three cities were ranked in the top 5 best places to do business in Washington. The Tri-Cities are in the center of Washington's wine country and because of a mild climate, 300 days of sunshine each year and Columbia, Snake and Yakima Rivers the area a growing tourist destination.

Fun in the Sun - 5/21/2008

Kennewick is at the confluence of the Columbia, Yakima, and the Snake rivers. We have 300 days of sunshine and numerous golf courses. Kennewick is the largest city of the “Tri-Cities”. We have a MSA of about 250,000 people in the greater Tri-City area. There is great fishing, water skiing, parasailing, and wonderful people. Kennewick has large park areas and lots of hiking trails.

Republican or Democrat - 1/25/2008

Kennewick, like most of Eastern Washington, is a republican place and rather conservative. However, state elections are typically dominated by the Seattle area alone (2 of nearly 40 counties) and lately we've been represented by democrats in Washington D.C..

Welcome to the Evergreen State? :-) - 3/13/2007

As I return to the Northwest from Dallas, no one believes me that I am moving to the Desert. But what a pleasant switch from the sodden slopes of the western Cascades. I have lived in Seattle and Portland, and I will take the dry side any day. Although there are some challenges to growth, it is only a matter of time before this Tri-Cities area is discovered and the real estate prices and economy go ballistic (ala Spokane and Seattle.) Hot dry summers with lots of irrigation water, and the mighty Columbia, make this area a great playground. Housing prices are low (one of the last areas in the state), and with the Hanford area bringing in some serious mental talent, this place is going to spring out of the economic dark ages from the anachronism that it is.

Great place to live - 12/20/2006

When I was assigned to work here I never thought I would like the area, I was wrong. We have lived here 15 years now and love it here. The transportation system here was well planned, as it is easy to get around town. The population of Kennewick is about 60,000, but Pasco and Richland share borders with Kennewick which really give the area about a populatin of 180,000. There is a community college and W.S.U. campus located here. The economy is doing well here and housing is very affordable. We have the best weather in the state. Lots of parks in the area. There are three major rivers that meet here and the area offers great water sports and fishing. We have several great golf courses here as well. You can be in some beautiful mountains, by heading east you will be in the Blue mountains and if you go west you will be in the Cascades. Either way is about an hour drive. The people here are on the conservative side and very friendly. Another nice thing about living here is we are aproximently 2 hours from Spokane, 3 Hours to Seattle,3&1/2 hours to Portland, and 4&1/2 hours to Boise.
