Kissimmee, Florida Unfair Traffic Trap - 11/26/2012

I know that in Kissimmee, Florida they have a small sign (do not turn on red) on the right side of a two lane turn right only at the intersection Osceola Parkway and Michigan. That sign is very hard to see, especially if you are in the left of the turning point; night hours aggravates this unfair Osceola County trap… It seems to me that that is a camera enforced trap to collect money. Nobody would turn if they can see an appropriate signs displayed.

Kissimmee or Tampa - 8/6/2012

My family and I currently live in aurora co. We are thinking of moving to Fl. early summer of 2013. We are looking at the Tampa area and Kissimmee area. We have been to Fl before but will be taking a trip out there in about 2 months to look at things as possible residents vs visitors. We have two kids one that will be in high school and the other elementary. Our line of work is LPN and electrican. We would love some feed back on the two areas such as schools, neighborhoods, also are these areas pretty diverse as our kids are not use to living in or going to a segregated neighborhood and school. Thanks for any info you give.

Kissimmee (Osceola Co) - 2/26/2010

Hmmm. where can I begin. Originally I moved to Kissimmee in 1992 (right after HS) we lived all over...St. Cloud, Kissimmee, Poinciana. Back then it was nice NOW it's overpopulated and I have found people are VERY rude since we have moved back here in 2006. The first time we lived in Osceola Co from 1992 to 1997. We moved to another city about an hour away and we moved back to Kissimmee in 2006 due to family circumstances. So much has changed. Several homes in my neighborhood have been abandoned. We dont even shop at some of the local grocery stores because they never have things in stock and you practically get run over in the parking lot trying to get into the store. If you are lucky to get up to the doors of the store than you have to make sure you don't get run over by someone coming out of the entrance. Driving on the streets have become a nightmare!! Between the construction and the congested streets, taking all the back roads is the way to go!! To be perfectly honest, my family and I are looking to move out of Kissimmee as fast as possible!! It's overpopulated and overrated!!

Lifestyle - 9/27/2009

Living in Kissimmee, is quiet. If you're looking for a slow pace, non congestive city this is the place. Orlando is a few miles away Disney World, Sea World, Universal Studios are all with a short distance. Kissimme is growing from what I tell in my short time of living here. It's not a big city, very laid back. People for the most part seem nice, but not overly friendly. I've lived in other places where people are more talkative and receptive. I find the people are all to themselves, but they are nice enough to speak. Many Northerners have moved here, alot of New Yorkers. A small portion of family live here, but it's not somewhere I would want to settle myself. Don't get me wrong; I like it here. But if I have a choice I would choose Euless, TX or Kissimmee. Just because it's bigger in Texas and just as hot.

Not bad for small town! - 8/1/2009

I've lived in Kissimmee for 5 years now. This town has everything! Restaurants, bars, clubs, etc. There a place call Old Town which has a bunch of restaurants, shops, thrill rides and lots of people to meet. They host a car club every saturday night. Not to mention all the central florida theme parks are minutes away. Schools here are average. Crime is average but definately lower than nearby cities like Orlando or Tampa. Overall, I say it's a decent place to live, have fun, and raise a family.

Living Near Disney - 10/13/2008

I live 5 miles from Disney in a Manufactured Home Community. We rent the lot and own the home. The community has 3 swim pools, a mini golf course, 3 club houses, many social activities.

A giant dirty tourist trap - 9/13/2007

We were relocated to Florida from Michigan and it's just terrible. The schools are the worst of the worst. The education system is a complete failure. We struggled with the public school system for about 6 months then gave up and went private but have to drive 40 minutes to get to a decent school. There is no culture here and really the entire area is a giant dirty strip mall. The main road is nothing but decaying outdated hotels, flashing lights from cheap t shirt shops and billboards. The weather is hot, humid and 90% of the time unpleasant. There are no jobs in this city and the majority of the town speaks spanish. This isn't a place to raise kids or even that a single person would enjoy. I can't stress enough how poor the schools are, even in the better areas it's all the same. We live in a better part of town called Celebration but it is smack in the middle of Kissimmee crime. A giant tourist trap. My kids enjoy the theme parks and it is nice to say you live by Disney. But that is about it. If you want a real quality of life and education for your children, you won't find it here.

to think I chose to live here - 5/12/2007

I've lived in the environs of Kissimmee these last 19 years and hated every one of them. What I first fell in love with - albeit extremely briefly - was the Western feel of the place. It was nearly wide open back then, a lovely mix of cattle ranches and citrus groves punctuating small shops and the just-built Osceola Square Mall. Kissimmee today is a near-dizzying mixture of countless strip malls with cheesy t-shirt and souvenir shops, chain restaurants, auto dealers/repair shops, bumper-to-bumper traffic, and barely a tree in sight. If you choose to live here, bring a big fat wallet as housing prices were out of control and now stagnant; schools are overcrowded before they open; roads are 20 years behind schedule and traffic has increased seven-fold. Nightlife is the big-box or grocery store-shuffle and tornado/t-storm preparedness. Press "1" for Spanish and break out el dicionario: you're gonna need it to get hired, if you know the right people.

It was nearly wide open back then, a lovely mix of cattle ranches and citrus groves fragranting strip malls and the just-built Osceola Square Mall. How times have changed. Kissimmee today is a near-dizzying mixture of countless strip malls with cheesy t-shirt and souvenir shops, chain restaurants, auto dealers/repair shops, bumper-to-bumper traffic, and barely a tree in sight. Nightlife is near zero aside from Disney, the only game in town. And Disney has little to offer in that way: Pleasure Island is usually jammed and 1/3 of its clubs stay empty, Downtown Disney is packed and pricey, and parking there is a real headache. If you choose to live here, bring a big fat wallet as housing prices were out of control and now stagnant; schools are a disgrace and overcrowded before they open; road enlargement is 20 years behind schedule and traffic congestion has increased seven-fold. And don't expect a nightlife aside from the big-box or grocery store-shuffle. Press "1" for Spanish and break out el dicionario: you're gonna need it to get hired, if you know the right people.

Be sure to spend time in the old downtown area. They have some some fine eating places with homemade food. The park around the lake downtown is a nice place to take the children.

Stay away! - 7/3/2006

I've lived here in Kissimme about 3 years. It's getting horrible!. People are rude. It's over crowded! The school system sucks! Housing is shooting through the roof, and sales tax will kill you. Average home cost 325,000. Average apartment rent 1200.00 a month. Gallon of gas $2.90. Summers are unbearable. Extremely humid and hot. There is alot of stuff to do here though. Night life is great. However, if your looking for a peacefull place, this is definately not the place. Kissimme crime is high! At night all you hear is load people and cars. You don't need a stereo in your house because you will usually hear someones booming bass in their car about every minute. Good luck if you are trying to move here.
