Not typical of other cities in Texas! - 10/31/2019

I can't speak to the quality of living there as a resident, however Lewisville, TX is a very unfriendly and corrupt place to pass through. First time there and it will be the last!

Older Original Neighborhoods Around the Old Downto - 8/21/2015

I was raised in Dallas and have been gone many years. I want to relocate and retire in Lewisville. I don't want to spend a lot of money on a home and don't want a bigger home, so all the fancy ones I see on all the realtors' sites are too costly and too big. On Google maps I looked around the downtown area for the old homes that were there when it was a small town and not a suburb. They still exist and are cute and just what I need, but I don't see them on ANY realtors' sites. Does anyone know what the deal it? Don't these homes ever go on sale? Thanks for any help, Michelle

Lewisville? - 4/24/2012

We moved here about 7 months ago to take a job that my husband was offered. We came from the Hampton Roads area and we chose to take a job in Texas because of the temperature, housing, cost of living, and other reasons. In some ways, the area is a little cheaper, such as beef, milk, and a lot of produce. The gas is a little cheaper, but, electric is expensive, and some other things as well. In order to go to a lot of area, quickly and directly, there are a lot of toll roads that are even a little more than what we paid driving in the Chicago area. All in all though, it seems like a great place. The school system is pretty good. My biggest complant is that there are a lot of doctors that don't take any type of Medicare, Tricare, Cigna, and a few others. There are also a lot of doctors that don't accept any insurance at all.

Great Place for the Money - 4/18/2010

This is a great place to live for the money and yes it is one of the more affordable communities north of Dallas and its only getting better. First this is a great place to raise a family and small town atmosphere even though the population is pushing 100,000. Second there is a lot of shopping within the city around Vista Ridge Mall or on Main Street and areas close by like Grapevine Mills Mall and the new shopping area out in Flower Mound/Highland Village area. Third Public Transportation is still pretty new here but growing rapidly you can currently catch the DCTA express bus to Dallas at the Cinemark Theatre off of Rockbrook Drive north of Vista Ridge Mall and as I post this the Dart and DCTA rail line is being developed including two DCTA rail stations one near Old town off of Main Street and the other off off Hebron Pkwy just east of I35. There are more running and bike trails being developed as well. It is about as pedestrian friendly here as any other nice or nicer suburb around here. This community is also about as safe as the more pricy communities around. The housing choices include newer luxary apartments, newer townhouses, and existing houses both new and old of all price ranges to make this a diverse community. I believe a great quality life includes diversity and this community has both.

Not perfect but really great place - 3/28/2010

I believe this is a great place to live north of Dallas for the money since I been here 5+ years, its still safe and reasonable whether you rent a house, apartment or townhouse or buy a house/townhouse and you will find that this area especially older areas are starting to improve. Our neighborhood one of the old Fox and Jacobs neighborhoods is getting water, sewage, and street improvements right now. New housing options are either apartments or townhomes the exception is out in Castle Hills addition which is between Carrollton and The Colony which is basically upscale mansions. In regards to people saying there are no places where people can ride their bikes or there are no bike lanes that has improved now that there are more bike trails than there were about 2-3 years ago. You can enjoy Central Park which has the Timber Creek trail that I believe goes about 2 miles about one mile each direction you just need to go to the city website and look under park and recreation for other trails around the city but they do exist. Yes there are improvements that could be made but this is a great place to live, you live close to everything in the DFW area but still have a little breathing room and a small town atmoshpere that you would find in very few suburbs here anymore. Plenty of shopping still exist believe or not even though a lot of new big box stores that Flower Mound/Highland Village said they never would get now moved out there around FM2499 and FM407 if you like ridiculous traffic because of poorly planned roads. However there is still plenty of shopping around Vista Ridge Mall as well and of course you have 2 Walmarts. The best indoor Mall however would be Grapevine Mills just down the road in Grapevine next to DFW Airport. There are a lot of small businesses as well that can use business yes they may not be as nice or cheap but they are local business in fact some do exist in some of the old big box stores on Main Street. Public Transportation does exist here in Lewisville currently by bus if you look at the DCTA website you can see the routes dont even touch Flower Mound and its really needed because congestion is getting worse and the DCTA rail system is being built east of 35e with three stations being built in Lewisville to Connect Dallas and Denton. There is a bus (DCTA) that goes from Lewisville to Dallas currently on weekdays. Overall its really a great place to live and this area still has great potential just like any other newer suburb to the east or west.

Great cost of living, nothing else really stands o - 7/27/2008

Let me start by saying the best quality that the area has (and most of the surrounding area, for that matter) is the cost of living. It is as great as everyone says it is. After saying that, if you like to eat out and shop, the Lewisville (and DFW) area is for you. There are tons of places to eat, mostly chain restaurants, but quite a few places that aren't. And the DFW area is overrun with massive malls and plenty of shopping. Aside from that, nearly everyone drives horrendously bad (the worst thing I hate about this area), has a huge Truck or SUV, and is overweight. Lewisville Lake is one of the deadliest lakes in the nation because the boating habits are as bad as the driving habits it seems. Check out a map sometime so you can see how Interstate 35 runs through Denton, Dallas (35E), Fort Worth (35W), Waco, Austin, and San Antonio. Just try to imagine how much traffic runs along 35, with the overwhelming amount of cargo carrying trucks and poor public transportation (though it is slowly getting better). Needless to say, there is a ridiculous amount of traffic, especially in Austin (which is in the middle of it all), so it is truly no wonder that people drive so insanely. Being that I'm from near Chicago, and most of my family still is, I've spent a good amount of time driving on I-88 and other highways in the suburbs, and driving on 35 for the first time was unbelievable, it was like driving in downtown Chicago. It's horrendous. That said, we live near 3040 on the south side of Lewisville, and it is really bad, and pretty much on par with Main St. As far as the population goes, the area has been one of the fastest growing in the nation in recent years, and it really shows. The road construction is always well behind the the residential and commercial construction. The newest clustered mess is in Flower Mound on 2499 and 407. Old Lewisville (east of 35 on Main st.) is being slowly renovated in preparation for the new DCTA (Denton County Transit Authority) rail system that will link up with the DART rail system (they are aiming for 2012), and will run along 35E into Dallas (finally...), but it's still pretty shabby. Other than that, most of the area near 35E and Main st. is largely low-income and Hispanic, and most of the more affluent people have moved towards Flower Mound, Coppell, and Double Oak over the years. As far as health and recreation go, the DFW area in general is terrible. There are very few parks, many of which are poorly kept up with. There are especially few in the Lewisville area. And as far as public recreation centers go, there are VERY few good ones, most people just get Lifetime or LA Fitness memberships (which are ridiculously expensive for recreation, and that's why everyone is in such poor health). The facilities are either non-existant, or there just isn't much too them, and usually dominated by kids programs (which hardly any kids in the area go to anyway, but in case one kid shows up, the facilities are closed). I have scoured the entire Dallas area north of downtown (not brave enough to go to the South side), and found almost no decent parks and no decent recreation centers (that includes Richardson, Garland, Plano, Carrollton, Coppell, Lewisville, Flower Mound, Denton, the Lake Cities, etc.). So believe me, I know. I am an avid disc golfer (obviously not since I moved to the area), and love to play pick-up basketball. Your best bet for the Lewisville area is the Farmer's Branch Recreation Center. It is the best Recreation center I have found. As far as park's go, Lewisville basically has 2 that I would consider parks. One is on the east side of 35 off of 407 near the golf course (Lewisville Lake Park). It is drunken redneck paradise, don't go there. And one of the best parks in the area (and it's only decent, and small) is Leonard L. Woods park. Every other park in Lewisville/Flower Mound is a patch of grass with a small children's playset, not a park. Be prepared to drive to all those parks if you don't live right by them (and there are few actual "parks" to live by), because the area, as a whole, is certainly not walking or cycling friendly. The larger neighborhoods are great for walking or cycling (as most are), but there is nothing you can actually get to outside of the local neighborhoods. There are massive roads, and everything is very spread out, and the roads are very dangerous to cross. If you are looking for a more walking friendly city, I would suggest Coppell. I notice a lot more people walking in that city, and there are new and very nice cross walks there. Even though there isn't much of a support for them, there are several cycling enthusiasts that live in the Western Flower Mound and Double Oak area. I think it's great that they pursue their interests even without a supportive environment, but to say they aren't truly risking their lives would be a lie. No bike lanes, mixed with exceptionally bad drivers is a recipe for disaster. As far as politics go, I'm pretty open to people having their own opinions. You will inevitable run into your fair share of religious fanatics in the area, which might be a good or bad thing to you (I am, again, indifferent), they are usually nice, only a few are typically annoying. Most people in the area are generally pretty nice, except when it comes to driving. But most people in the area are commuters anyway, so most of their time is spent driving in a car, so you won't interact with people very often, which is one of the big reasons I want to move out of the area. Whenever I make a friend in this area through common interests or work, they end up living 30min or more driving time away from me. The schools here should be much better, considering the funding they receive, but they are still seriously lagging behind. I blame the state government for allowing the schools to fall so far behind, but this state government has been pretty well known for dropping the ball on several occasions (their priorities seem often misplaced, and it seems impossible to get any incumbents out of office, unless they do something really awful). I'm probably not the best source on this subject, so you would probably want to look at some statistics. Needless to say, I am dissatisfied with the area, and plan to move as soon as I am able (from the state entirely, in fact). Hopefully it will either confirm my suspicions of the area, or make me appreciate it more.

From winter straight to summer - 3/11/2007

I've lived in Lewisville, Texas for 15 years and spring is nearly non-existant here. The temraptures go from cold straight to hot. The mild days of spring are few and far between. Ditto for fall. From summer heat then suddenly it's winter. I want to move away since the heat is terrible. The temp gauge may read in the upper 90's but it feels in 100s.

Citizen Involvement - 10/31/2005

Lewisville offers numerous ways for citizens to become familiar and involved in their community. Citizens Police Academy, a free 12 week course, offers insight and up-close opportunities to know your police department. Keep Lewisville Beautiful allows citizens or groups to adopt a favoriet or prominent spot to keep picked up and even planted with flowers. It's a great small-town feeling kind of place.
