Los Banos' Bubble Bursting Real Soon! - 7/7/2019

Everything I think about this town has already been said. And those things unfortunately are more in the negative category. Not too much good to say about this town. Literally the only perk is the fact that there isnt crushing traffic to have to deal with on a daily basis. The only reason I stay is because I want to be close to my children that I had with a women who is from Los Banos so of course she has some ties here. Family and such. So you guessed it. Im pretty much indirectly trapped here. Otherwise Id be out of here so fast it'd make your head spin. And the housing and rental costs are absolutely ridiculous! WAAAAAAY too overpriced for the location. I mean, real estates main motto is "location, location, location." Ok then why doesnt that apply here? But I digress, That actually DID apply here up until about a few years ago when the locals let "the powers that be" here trick them into thinking they were part of the Bay area. I have news for the people of Los Banos...YOU ARE NOT LIVING IN THE BAY AREA! This is Los Banos. A small little town thats more Fresno than coastal. Stop dreaming please. Now you've opened the door for them to charge you very near the same high prices you would be dealing with if you DID live in the bay area. Dont be Lemmings. I guess its good for people who actually OWN their homes because now you have an over inflated property value. Nows the time to sell though, while you can because once all the hipsters who've recently discovered this place and came in buying up everything discover that that job commute between here and the REAL bay area is in fact NOT fun, AND that Los Banos has NOTHING to offer in ANY category other than no traffic, they are going to start selling their homes and moving back where they came from in DROVES. After all, if the cost of living goes up to around the same as it would be in the REAL bay area then theres no incentive for them to even move here. Trust me, Los Banos is in a bubble and it will be blowing up soon. And one last thing. Ive lived in MANY places in California and other States. Trust me when I say this. Los Banos as a collection of the MOST non driving people ive ever witnessed in one little area. Every driver parks at the stop signs AND for some reason thinks they have to wait until OTHER drivers come to a complete stop before THEY can pull off. There are WAAAAY too many stop signs clustered together for a town this small and Everyone here drives sooooooo slow and over cautious. These people are SOOO lucky cars dont come with missile launchers in the front grill, lol.

maybe for singles or with no kids, but not family - 4/2/2019

The most attractive part of Los Banos is their proximity to San Jose and relatively low housing prices. However, if you look at it from different angles Los Banos may not be ideal. New home prices here are "cheap" in comparison to San Jose which can only be 1 hour away with no traffic. Or Gilroy which is 30 mins away. New homes in Los Banos are going for $300K? Some smaller plans are high $200K. Problem though is, there are no jobs in Los Banos. At least no high paying ones, and the ones that are, are very few. Los Banos is barely 40,000 people. I have heard/read that most of the residents there drive to San Jose or the greater Bay Area to work. If you can put up with the traffic commute, what do you do on the weekend. Remember this town only has 40,000. There is nothing here. No mall, one lousy small movie theater, amenities and activities are very lacking compared to a big city. Once they exhausted the few activities and things you can do here, you can go to Gilroy to shop (30 mins no traffic), San Jose (1hr), Fresno (1hr). for the rest of the stores and amenities that they dont have themselves. The school district/schools here are not ranked well. This really is perfect definition of commuter town. If you are single or have no kids thats fine. But with kids, its a depressing.

Inaccurate facts. The heat in Los Banos is relentless. From May to mid or end of September100 +degrees. I lived there most of my 59 years. It is oppressive. It can go weeks to months at 105 + degrees. Sickening .

A horrible place - 1/7/2013

It always starts out as a great place to raise children, a small, quaint town full of activities for the kids. You can sign your kids up in PAL(Police Athletic League) and you can choose from upwards of 5 k-6 schools, private and public. But then they grow up. And they are faced every day with peer pressure to do drugs, drink, join gangs, and bully. The high school, LBHS, given a little less crowded since the building of the other high school, is a very dark and dismal place. The teachers do not care about bullying and they do not care if their students learn. It, of course, has a few good teachers but if your child is not in their class I can guarantee they while hate their school life. Weed is the drug of choice in Los Banos for teenagers and the social norm is to hate another group of teenagers. Since the town does not have remotely ANYTHING to interest teenagers, besides a single movie theater, the kids have drunken parties every weekend. Also, there are NO JOBS! Your teenager will not be off to a good start here in this town. This town is a close-minded, hillbilly town that gets its kicks out of duck hunting and commuting to a place where they actually have jobs. In conclusion, great place for kids, yes, but you should move once your child turns 10, before they enter middle school(there's only ONE of those! and it's overflowing with kids). Do not subject your teenagers to this death hole of self esteem and lost opportunity.

Overcrowded Schools - 3/26/2006

The schools are filled to the bursting point due to the large number of Bay Area people who have settled their families here while they continue to commute 2 hours each way over the mountains to their jobs. Year round track systems exist in all the schools save one, even the JH. The HS was built to hold 1400 and now 'houses' 3400. Classes are at capacity in all schools Voters continue to refuse to fund Bonds to build more schools
