Nice Little Place - 12/20/2009

Newcastle is a nice small town. It is situated on the west-central foothills of the Black Hills, and is located about an hour from major Black Hills attractions including Mt. Rushmore and Devils Tower. With a population of around 3300, it boast many amenities of a larger town, but still has the feel of a small town. It has two grocery stores, two banks, a Pamida (kind of like a Wal-Mart, but smaller), three auto parts stores, 11 restuarants, nine motels, six bars, two liquor stores, two RV parks, four city parks, a movie theater, four gas stations, a hospital, clinic, mental health clinc,a weekly newspaper, and many various stores on Main Street including a dry cleaners, health food market, computer sales and service, gift shops, hardware stores, second-hand stores, book stores, and antique stores. Industry in Newcastle is mainly industrial. Newcastle and the surrounding area offers jobs in oil refining, the railroad, coal mining, and government. (Newcastle is the county seat for Weston County, and also has offices for the BLM, US Forest Service, and USDA) Newcastle has a geat school system, two schools were built in 2003, and ther is probably a total district enrollment of around 1,000 students. The Student to teacher ratio is about 12:1 which is very low. The Graduation rate is about 90%. I hope that this will answer any question someone may have about my hometown. It is a good place to live if you like small town living and a love for the outdoors.
