Oxford Insight - 3/11/2021

While I know this isn’t a review, I am looking for some local insight! I am recent college graduate and looking for a fresh start to my career. I have lived in Chicago my whole life and I am beyond fed up with this place (weather, traffic, people, crime, politics etc.) and one place that shows up constantly on all the articles and reviews I read is Oxford! Would you recommend Oxford to a early 20s young professional looking for a change of scenery from the big city? My only concern is driving, living in Chicago I never had the need for a car, thus I would like to still have the luxury of a place where walking and public transportation like trains or busses are accessible... would I be able to get away without a car in Oxford? Last, crime. As you can probably imagine Chicago is one of the worst places you can live where crime is everywhere... it’s disgusting and unfortunate and I am sick of the shootings, gangbanging, car jacking etc. (you name it and I’ve seen it) how is the crime in Oxford? I would love to live in relative peace and quite for once lol. Let me know your thoughts on Oxford! It seems like a lovely place to live from what I have read and maybe one day I’ll see you there! Hotty Toddy!

Living in Oxford - 9/12/2008

We relocated to Oxford, MS from the Memphis, TN area. There are so many great things to say about Oxford but the low crime rate is at the top of the list! Coming from a large metropolitan area, we can really appreciate this. We are also within a 1 hour drive to Memphis or Tupelo so it's quick and easy to get to major shopping and airports.

It's not to say there is zero crime - but it's unlikely that could be said about any community. You might say it's definitely a secondary consideration in Oxford.

Best for a reason - 8/30/2006

Oxford is on many "best" lists for a reason. I consider it the "Oasis of the South". We offer culture, diversity, education, and entertainment. The only two bad things about Oxford are July and August. (It is the south after all, what can one expect?) The schools are superior, the locals welcoming, and the visitors all seem to want to stay.
