Relocation to Round Rock Area - 10/2/2016

I plan on relocating from Amarillo to Round Rock or one of the suburbs north of Austin with my wife and kids. I would like to know what people can tell me about the job market in the Austin , Tx. We plan on moving to the area June of 2017 . I will by that time have a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration along with an Associates in management. I just want to know how hard it is to find good employment in the Austin area or is it easier .

Good Jobs and not much else - 3/15/2013

I have lived here 2is years with my family. I have lived in many different cities and states. The positive things about here: Most people here are respectful, ex yes sir, yes mam and most people here are friendly. Also there are alot of good payong jobs for whatever you do. Cons: very concrete feeling. Ex. You dont have Beautiful mountains, there is no ocean close by, and the have something called cedar fever lookit up if you plan on moving here. Not to sound to cynical, yet there may very well be a reason why the houses are so affordable here.

Austin & Round Rock Texas - 12/18/2010

My husband & I recently relocated to Round Rock, Texas which is 20 minutes north of Austin. We lived in New Orleans prior to coming to the Lone Star State. We actually live in Round Rock which is 20 minutes north of Austin. It is close enough to the city and Round Rock is safe with friendly, well-educated people and a great school system. The people here are laid back and home prices are quite reasonable. You do get a lot for your money in terms of real estate. The atmosphere is quaint and unique. Plus we are just minutes away from small towns worth a day trip which we take on weekends!

Housing Recovery Starting - 10/29/2010

I have been watching housing closely and have noticed that while the number or properties sold is relatively flat the median price is slowly edging back up. I have heard most people miss the bottom because they don't buy until it is clearly over. Looks like we might be starting to move back up in real estate prices....

High Desert Area of Calif. vs. Round Rock, Texas - 7/13/2010

We live in the High Desert Area of California and have seen it change significantly over the last 20 years. In the 90's it was a community where everyone wanted to live, and could afford to, but there was no work available.People came here because of the size of property you could buy at a very affordable price. Now it's a community where no one wants to live and still can't afford to leave because there hasn't been any work for several years. Foreclosures are at a high rate and businesses are closing down. We don't see any relief in sight. Our son took his family, and a big chance, and just overnight relocated to Round Rock, Texas, where both he and his wife found work almost immediately. they are still employed today. Our granddaughters go to a small local school where there are still after school programs and Saturday school for kids needing specific help with studies. Teachers stay after class to help a student instead of clearing out as the bell is still ringing. My granddaughters 5th grade class is about 26 students and kindergarten is less than that. Our son bought a really nice older home, about 1300 sq ft, two story, in a quiet neighborhood for around $130,000. His home here was 900 sq ft and sold for $150,000 in a closed neighborhood with lots of problems. In Texas, the kids have a water park every couple of blocks and the kids are never bored with free stuff to do for entertainment. A movie here in our area starts at$6.50 for a matinee and there is nothing to help entertain kids between 8-18. Even our mall has lost a lot of stores over the past two years. I think our son made a wise choice in his relocation. My husband and I are considering relocating there in about a year as we still have other obligations here to finalize before we can make such a move. I never thought I would want to leave California, I was transplated here about 50 yrs ago with my parents. I know I don't want to be here anymore.

Affordability - 4/29/2009

Ive lived in the Austin metroplex for over 10 years now. When I look at other areas of the country, Id say it is an affordable place to live. It is more expensive than in some places in Texas though. If you dont mind the heat its a nice place to live with many activities nearby.

Round Rock- Sports Capital of Texas - 2/27/2009

Having living in Round Rock for almost 9 years, I must say that Round Rock truly lives up to its name. I really enjoy the small town feel and safety that the city offers as well as being so close to all the fun Austin offers. I just wish that traffic was better. The city does a great job of keeping up the roads and parks.

Reasonable Housing, Good Schools - 1/12/2008

Round Rock is a suburb of Austin--roughly a 45 minute drive, due north. I have lived her over a decade and compared to other areas, it is very affordable. It would be easy to find an entry level home for around $130,000. Unfortunately, nearly ALL of the jobs are located in downtown Austin--which requires a rather lengthy commute. Since Austin is the capitol of Texas--there are plentiful State jobs--which may pay a little less that Private sectors jobs---but the generous benefits more that make up for the lower wages. The downside is the constant heat and powerful allergins in the air. We have a constant influx of people moving into this area--so one could easily move here--to start a new life. Service sector jobs are very plentiful and easy to get---as a way to start a new life. There are many Universities as well as Technicals schools for educational pursuits.

Moved here 18 months ago and I can't wait to leave - 12/29/2007

I bought a home here 18 months ago and can't wait to get away from Round Rock. I researched this place prior to coming here and based on prior reviews thought it would be a great place to live. Property taxes are outrageous, RRISD schools are overcrowded, and frequent fireworks from the Dell Diamond late into school nights is more than I can bear. I plan to move this summer and am counting down.

No regrets moving here - 11/30/2007

We moved our family to Round Rock September 2006. We'd lived in Los Angeles, CA and tried hard to raise a family there but we were struggling. The school system was the most trying, the public schools were merely a collection of trailers, no art, music, or PE. We also found that LA had become more and more overcrowded, dirty, and stressful. Round Rock is a very family-orientated town 20 miles north of Austin. Many of our neighbors are from California and other states, in addition to some native Texans. We are a community where all races are welcome, as a multiracial family we have felt nothing but welcome. The public schools are of a good quality, our children have art, music, and wellness(PE) most days. They also ride the school bus, a novelty for them as we would never have permitted this in LA. The weather is something I actually like, the summer I enjoyed as I like the heat. We did have some cold days last winter, even ice for 5 days, but the cold spells don't last too long. We live in the Teravista community and enjoy knowing many people here. It's the type of neighborhood where people know and look out for each other's children. Austin is a great town and we love to visit there, it is a city which supports family owned business and is not too keen on chains. We love to get away from the (Mostly) chain restaurants of Round Rock and eat out in Austin.

Considering a move from California - 4/28/2007

My boyfriend and I are considering a move from California to the Austin area. I have heard good things about Round Rock and Cedar Park. I know Round Rock has some good schools. We were also considering the Lakeway area. Does anyone know anything about these areas? My boyfriend is in the automotive field...does anything know anything about that field? Whether it is good or bad? I would like an area thats affordable but has lots of trees and greenery, but is also safe. Thanks. Feel free to email me. Thanks!

Living in Round Rock - 3/27/2007

Home to Dell, Round Rock is an exciting community that is diversifying it's economic base and offers great quality of living. Just outside the capitol of Austin, Round Rock is growing substantially, but still offers a hometown feel. Great restaurants, exciting shopping (IKEA selected the city recently for one of its stores), and great schools and parks as well. It's well worth looking into if you are considering a move to Central Texas.
