| The Bipolar State - 9/29/2009
South Carolina is beautiful. It is historical, has wonderful picturesque scenes of everything you could ever imagine, from beaches, to swamps, to mountains.
Unfortunately the climate can only be described as bipolar. It is humid and muggy, so much so you can barely swim through the air one day, and the next it is chilly and you need a spring jacket. We miss out on entire seasons (usually winter) and you never really know what to pack away and what should stay in your closet.[more...]

| Relocations in a hurry! - 12/22/2008
I moved to south Carolina in 1999 from New york due to the high prices of rent and home ownership. I had to move out of state fast, in order to not renew my apartment lease for another year and being trapped into a rent that I could no longer afford. you don't know what you can and cannot afford until a crisis arises such as a (family member becomes ill or you lose your job and so forth). I didn't have time to plan, only request information and move.when I arrived in south carolina it just seemed like a bright and new beginning until, I started applying for jobs and meeting new people. This state is slow and non motivational. Most of the people have never crossed the south carolina line to another state. They believe everything they hear on radio and television and live in fear of all the terrible things that happen in the world will happen to them if they ever left the state. I appreciate the low cost of living and the home I was able to purchase knowing I could have never afforded in new york but, the people of south carolina and I have absolutly nothing in common. It's been 10 years of having no friends or family to spend time with,I guess that's the price you pay for living within your means. If anyone out there is considering relocating, my advise is to make sure you have plenty in comman with the state in which you wish to live.[more...]

| Where in Southeast - 8/10/2008
We are in our 50's currently living in the Virgin Islands. Cost of living is forcing us to return to the states, but where? We enjoy our outdoor life style - kayaking, snorkeling, swimming. We are in a culturally diverse and friendly area - it is expected that you will greet everyone that you pass on the street. We would like another community that reflects these traits. We are not interested in "cookie cutter homes". Would like access to airport to see grandchildren, enjoy live theater, don't care about sports, golfing or tennis but love water - river, real lakes (not mud puddles), creeks and of course the ocean. We are thinking of Beaufort, SC or small town in FL - Mount Dora is one that we are considering. Tell me where you think we should consider.[more...]

| Great Family Upstate State - 7/23/2008
If you are considering moving to this area, it is perfect for the settled family, structured for the more stable and traditional valued. Social and community involvement is encouraged but limited to church and traditional structure environments. If you seek a peaceful environment with a moderate climate this is it. However, with this laid back atmosphere is a more slow paced lifestyle. Atlanta is 2 hours away, mountains less than 1 and 5 hours to the beach. Flights to major destinations just require a bit of planning... heres to home life.[more...]

| SOUTH CAROLINA - 3/16/2007
We live in SC, it's a beautifcul state. The wildlife and the birds make it such a beautiful place to wake up to in the morning. Heck, when I hear the song birds, I want to join in myself, if only there were words to those melodies! HA.
We South Carolina folks are downright hospitable, so when you visit, don't be surprised by a friendly hello or warm greeting, its just the way we do things down here.
Recently, more Northerers are making this their permanent home and well, I can't blame you.The only disappointment they've expressed is the low pay of the jobs here. I guess you really can't have it all. Well, see ya![more...]

| Orangeburg County – Jobless for the Young and the - 12/21/2006
Orangeburg County currently has only a few jobs for it citizens. A lot of people have to travel to Columbia or other places to find work or work that pays decent wages. If Orangeburg were not a college town, this would be a "ghost town." All of these colleges graduating students who have to leave Orangeburg and South Carolina to find a better life. In addition, Orangeburg has no public transportation system. I do not know how Orangeburg received a title of All American City. Some of the jobs here pay well for people who hold certain position, but for the averagen person who has a high school or a college degree, the pay is below the national average. It is also a shame that Orangeburg and South Carolina have some of the poorest women in the nation.
Orangeburg County Council needs to wake up and smell the coffee. If the jobs don't get better, many people will leave here and many will not be retiring here.[more...]

| Rich/Poor gap is nowhere more evident than here. - 12/3/2006
South Carolina has no middle class. You are either born affluent with all the inherent benefits thereof, or you are born into lower class tedium and are sentenced to scratching and clawing your way up throughout your whole life. If you are lucky you might make it to upper lower-class status. Most barely make it to the same economic level their parents had. South Carolina is an excellent case study in extreme denial and economic myopia.[more...]

| Seasons - 6/18/2006
South Carolina's summer climate is stiflingly hot and humid. As you walk out the door, the weight of the stagnant air takes your breath away. However, we have coastline and rivers to provide plenty of summer fun and relief. The spring and fall are very pleasant, but dress in layers- the morning temperatures can be deceiving. As the sun rises, so does the temperature, and vice versa. Winter has been known to bring snow, but not much. Most often, just ice and dangerous roads. Many young students hear of flurries and are hopeful of next day cancellations and others run to the store and clean it out of all its staple foods. Really its ridiculous. If you're looking into South Carolina, plan for minor amounts of snow and you should be fine with what's in your cabinet.[more...]
