| what is the quality of life - 1/31/2012
do the people in The Woodlands tend to complain about their neighbors and call the police for minor things a lot? We lived in El Lago (near Clear Lake) and the people seemed like they were very paranoid, even though crime was nonexistent. They reported anything they did not like to the police even if it was not in code violation. We are considering The Woodlands but don't want to be in a neighborhood like El Lago. We are active and don't have kids. We are also considering Montrose or The Heights but property is very expensive for what you get. We grew up in suburbs and like the big yards[more...]

| RE: Not what it seems - 3/30/2010
I agree with John, and as a graduate of Conroe High School I would say I have an even more personal experience especially with that school. Whites are the majority there however I will say there are probably more minorities at Conroe High than many of the other high schools in the district, but it was recently made a Recognized High School. I also graduated Class of 09' so this not some memories of a high school long ago. I heard something about a bible class being offered at Conroe High the year I was leaving, but it was a elective, and it focused on the Writing strategies of the Authors of the bible. You can not find a college that does not offer something along the same line. It is most certainly not something to convert kids. The Woodlands is a great place, I lived in River Plantation for quite some time and it is on Highway 45 between Conroe and The Woodlands. Awesome place with a beautiful golf course. [more...]

| Not What it seems - 5/19/2009
This community and in fact what is called The Conroe School District is a fanatical Protestant religious cliche. Most recently, a Bible course has been implemented in the school system to study. specifically, Protestant Religion and use The king James verision of the Bible. It is simply amazing that such blatant disregard for the diversity and beliefs of other people in the community of well over 300,000 should exist in a public school system and in the 21st Century. It is consistent with the racist views of both the school board and the Superintendant of the School District and clearly verified by the poor performacne of the Conroe High School. The Conroe High School is composed mostly of latinos and blacks, whereas the remianing high schools are mostly white ( greater than 95%) vs Conroe (Whites less than 20%). The Principal of the Conroe High School hired five years ago to improve educational standards has done nothing as the rating of this high school is still very poor. It is certainly apparent that rather than catering to the fanatical religious zealots and introducing a Bible study course driven by the white protestant community that attention should be directed to improving the performacne of the minority high school. I expect that the KKK is forming up and being directed by the School Board and that soon we will have signs appearing approved by the Superintendant and Director of Curriculum telling people of color not to be on the streets when the sun goes down.[more...]

| Families and better for younger couples than in pa - 4/29/2008
A bit of a stuffy area. Used to call it a bit Stepfordy, but it is getting better. The Woodlands Mall has grown and there are more things for younger people to do. I am more of a city type though. Good place to raise a family.[more...]

| beautiful area - 4/13/2008
Beautiful area, but a very expensive place to live. Taxes in general are very high for houses and everything else is taxed as well, which makes it more expensive than it first appears. Groceries are high, amenities such as different expos, etc in the area are always charged for. In general, it depends on whether or not one has the income to support all that it has to offer.[more...]

| One of the Best - 1/7/2007
The Woodlands is distinct as a place to live and should not be considered in the same vein as Houston. Great access, relatively lower cost of housing and soon to be excellent amenities (already "very good"). The Woodlands Waterway and Town Center will rival the nicer new downtown areas that I have seen. The Woodlands also has great golf, recreation, health services (a little short on doctors), shopping and quality services.[more...]

| Nice Place To Live, Except For The Heat - 6/7/2006
The Woodlands is one of the nicest areas in the Houston area to live. Schools are very good, shopping is wonderful, and there is a lot to do in the greater Houston area. The only big down side, in our opinion, is the weather - hot and humid at least 7 months of the year. The only other 'negative' may be the landscape, which tends to be very flat, and not very interesting. We moved here from the Bay Area, so the transition was a little hard regarding weather and landscape.[more...]

| Florida to Texas - 5/29/2006
We're not moving to The Woodlands, Texas out of disatisfaction but out of great anticipation for a quality of life that, otherwise, we'd have to wait five or more years for. We built three homes in two years at the height of the building boom in the fastest growing county (for over a year)in the nation. But visiting family in The Woodlands several times over the past three years made us gradually aware of the advantages of living in an especially well planned community that is not just a dream, but a reality. Whereas now we enjoy a greater cultural blend of people--not to mention beautiful beaches in Florida's Flagler County--The Woodlands offers a population of diverse ages, a greater variety of things to see and do: high quality shopping and dining out of the heat, an escape from touristy disruptions, and big city access by car on excellent highways or by Houston's low-cost Metro. The biggest surprise was the comparative low cost of the top quality home we bought near things we like to do and see--physical exercise, concerts, city art museums, golf, and to satisfy our urge to travel, having a major airline hub to fly in and out of. Wonderful! Here we come![more...]

| A Good place to Live in Houston - 4/18/2006
Lots of trees. Bike paths are everywhere and you don't have to leave the area for shopping.
Traffic can be heavy at times, but the entwork of raods provides good mobility witin The Woodlands, even during rush hour.
Hardy Toll road provides quick access to Houston Intercontinental airport and downtown with reduced congestion.
Safe neighborhoods where kids still ride bikes on the areas many bike paths. Plenty of neighborhood parks.
We've lived in four different areas of Houston durign the last 25 years and this planned community of 80,000 people is the best.[more...]
