Terrible - 1/5/2021

I've lived here for longer than I care to have lived here. Everything is close except important things like jobs. Commute 1.5 hours or more to find a decent job. Then you will have to work 6+ days a week to support yourself. Its a welfare city. You're better off being poor and living off of the gov than to actually work. Basic homes are $500K+ for no lots and small living quarters. Yearly taxes on homes will take up 1/5th of your income. Prepare to never own anything and rent forever. People are forced to live in multi family homes just to pay rent or buy. I've been to many states... Beware.... you will encounter some of the rudest people in the USA. Pollution is terrible. I cannot wait to get out of here.

A beautyful Sub Urban - a good combination of city - 10/14/2014

Valley Stream is just five minutes away from NYC City Border Line. Fifteen minutes away from JFK Airport border. a beautiful Village with a great amount of Quality. I came just Seven Years ago to this part of long Island from India. Now settled here as a permanent resident. I feel like home, because people here are very warm. So its my home Now. Low Crime Rate - 3/2/2010

Valley Stream is a fairly quiet town in Nassau County, Long Island with a rather low Crime Rate. It borders on Elmont, Rosedale and Cambria Heights Queens and is a rather short distance from Kennedy Airport. The Valley Stream School Districts are rather good, supporting a mixed racial community.

Best Long Island Town if you want to be close to t - 8/23/2009

You have local and express buses and the LIRR right at your back door. And if you want to drive it only takes about 45 minutes to get to the city.

Quiet and Peaceful - 9/1/2008

My neighborhood is one of the best in Long Island. It is not to far from the city, so traveling is breeze. I can also walk to several forms of public transportation. There are excellent schools in the neighbor and the people are friendly. It close to all shopping areas and there are a lot of established businesses in the area. It's quiet and peaceful and not a lot of traffic. If you like to see a lot of trees, grass and clear blue skies come to Valley Stream.

rising crime - 7/8/2008

I'm so very disappointed in the rising crime here in Valley Stream. I've lived here almost 30 years and for the last 10 years or so it has been rising. The influx of people to this area has been unfortunately ones of poor character. Gangs in the high and junior high schools. Police rounding up kids outside the schools because of crimes they are suspected of, etc. The breaking point came around 2 years ago when my neighbors 20 year old son was robbed at gunpoint right down the block from home. This never happened here before. I'm moving as soon as I retire to a state and town that has a much lower crime rate.
