| Police! - 10/31/2012
Great place to live if your not young or a student, the police around the uptown normal area and ISU police are very strict and will not let anything slide. If you are driving past midnight or seen leaving a bar late in your own vehicle you will be fallowed until you make a mistake or they make one up for you. After being a local to this area for 22 years I am ready to experience something new. As the saying goes about Bloomington Normal, come on vacation...leave on probation. [read more...]

Bloomington has a very bland suburban feel to it, although it is 2 hours from Chicago. Employment is fairly stable and the cost of living is low, but in terms of culture, it lacks.[read more...]

| Hometown - 2/15/2010
Bloomington/Normal is a nice place to live and raise a family. There are two colleges here that provide lots to do. Summers are especially nice. The schools are varied and all have their good points. My only complaint is in winter it is quite cold for quite some time. Because of the flat landscape snow is not much fun. As I reach retirement age I am considering a more temperate climate. My wife and I are leaning towards Tennessee.[read more...]

| Not much - 1/24/2008
bloomington is a modernday support town. it exists to support ISU and State Farm insurance. If you don't work for one of these two entities then you support them. Because the sister city of Normal was until recently a "dry" town, the culture and growth of the city reflect the remenance of the old days. 2 hours from Chicago and 2 hours from St. Louis this is a great city to raise a family if you are already established in a career, but fresh out of college and you might have a problem.[read more...]

| Bloomington, Il. - Some Good/Some Bad - 7/25/2006
I have lived in Bloomington for the past 12 years. It is always growing but still has few big city problems. Traffic is tolerable as you can get just about anywhere in ten minutes. The summer weather is nice but the wind the rest of the year can be tough to handle, especially in winter when temps are below freezing and the wind chill can exceed -20 to -60 degrees. 99% percent of the restaurants are chains and little diversity. The town is very religious on the conservative Christian side. Support our Troops and God Bless America stickers are still on many cars. There are churches on every block. Crime is fairly low. There are some cultural activities such as the summer Shakespeare Festival and the new arena which brings in sporting events and concerts. The two universities and Community college make for a pretty nice college atmosphere. By far the bigest problem is the incredibly high property taxes. A $400,000 home will be taxed between $9000 to $10,000 per year.[read more...]

Bloomington, IL is close to everywhere. Three Interstate highways cross in Bloomington so Chicago, St. Louis, and Indianapolis are all less than three hours away. Bloomington has a new airport terminal and five airlines flying jets to anywhere in the world via Chicago, Atlanta, Orlando, and Detroit. Amtrack stops here on the run between Chicago and Saint Louis.[read more...]
