| Brevard is a great place to live. I just wish that it stayed small. It has gotten to big for my liking. Dont get me wrong it is still a great place, I just remimber when it was smaller and I think I liked it more then. I feel that people are coming from out of town and wanting the town to turn in to a city. They are doing a good job of it. I have to say that I wish out of towners would love the place for what it was and not trying to make it like the place they left.

It has stayed small. In fact, they have lost population from 2000-2010. Sounds like no growth to me.

Brevard's mild climate and mountain views have turned it into a summer home and tourist mecca. Housing prices have soared. Unfortunately, over the last 4 years, the 2 main industiral plants have closed leaving 1,000 locals out of jobs. The preview here says jobs are good, but it is a false statistic. Many of the locals are working 2 or 3 jobs to keep their homes and cars. Property values are now so high that the locals cannot afford land or a house if they didn't already own one. They are resentful and suspicious of the money-hungry developers and their clients. It's a sad situation.
The only redemption is that nearly 1/2 the county (Transylvania) is in National Forest, State Forest, or State Park.
Brevard city limits is only about 8,000, not the 16,000 listed. That is merely the number of people receiving mail out of the Brevard Post Office.[read more...]
