It's unforturnate that LauMand has only focused on the negative. I would love to know her details. Why is she soo mad at SA.. Why is she here? Maybe her and her family and friends have been violated so much because of the sorry attitude she lives with. I am a single mom with 4 kids, I own my own home, work full time in a great legal office. I am glad I'm surrounded by the negitive this women brings. Is she raising the kids that she mentioned, and on the 50th boyfriend. Too bad your tied to a ball & chain. Don't judge someone if you don't know that persons past life. You say you've lived in SA your whole life, you are a disgrace to the native San Antonians. For living here your whole live, and your not used to the drivers yet, give me a break.. Change your attitude then you can sleep at night. FEAR ATTRACTS PROBLEMS*****

LauMand is right about San Antonio in every way. She did, however, leave out the fact that this city is a complete cesspool. There is garbage everywhere! My husband and I have started to log unique types of trash that we've seen lying about San Antonio. i.e. blue kiddie pool, love seats and sofas by the dozens, lawn furniture, giant stuffed animals, yoga mats, and that's just the beginning. I'd love to tell the locals how disgusting this city really is, but they usually don't understand english. Just a note about the guy who designed the wonderful LOOP system here..so many people died using the loops in traffic accidents that the designer actually committed suicide himself. That has to say something about the roadways here. Like I said before she's absolutey right about everything. If you are WHITE I would seriously reconsider EVER moving to this city. I'd don't care if that sounds racist, I face "reverse racism" everyday because of the locals/illegals.

you white people sound so pathetic,"like seriously"!!!!!
so you hating other races is ok but when other races aren't scared of you, that's not ok. get a grip!!!!!!!! stop being so narrow minded and stupid about everything. oh yeah, that attractive young blonde - yeah, you're blonde!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! why don't you act like the educated person you claim to be! in my experience, a lot of "pretty white girls" always think that the opposit sex (different race) want to harm them, yet it ends up to be the equally educated white male counterpart that "date rapes" her. open your blue eyes and try to really educate yourself

I see a few people are quite angry about the author's view point. I agree that some of it could have been written so that it wouldn't be quite so insulting. However, a lot of what she says is absolutely true. Was she supposed to not talk about it because it would insult sombody. Sorry if the truth hurts. I am here for a year because of the military and I have lived in other cities with other races that are more populous such as the hispanics are here. The crime rate is unbelievable. I have never known so many people personally that have gotten robbed within a one year period. I believe it is the poor people that have migrated legally and/or illegaly from Mexico. That is a huge concern for all San Antonions (hispanic, black, white, asian...) We all should be able to park our vehicle at night without having to worry about it being stolen or broken into. The traffic situation is horrible though. It is honestly the worst big city traffic that I have encountered. I can't say with any certainity what to blame for that. The city itself has a lot of wonderful features and traditions. It is centrally located between the ocean and Austin, Houston, and Dallas. I think that the population of San Antonio is too big for the city to handle. San Antonio should have twice the amount of police out patrolling to curb the crime and traffic. I hope I didn't offend anyone as I tried to leave race out of it and be unbiased. Like I said I am just passing through and have only lived here for a year. There are plenty of things the native San Antonioans need to work on and those things are definitely obtainable. This city will rock if they can work out the crime and traffic issues which I think is due to the overpopulation. I also believe that too many people will fall back on the good old faithful race card so they won't have to get off their fat asses and do something productive.

She's right folks. Truth hurts. The reason why she focused on the negatives is because they outweigh the positive. I've lived in San Antonio as well as other cities and countries throughout my childhood, and SA was the worst place. It's overpopulated, the education rate is the lowest in the country hence the high amount of crime and teen pregnancy, it's hot as hell and it hardly ever rains or has any decent weather. The population is about 90% hispanic, and even if you think it's "racist" or not, this serves as a problem. Since the hispanic pop. is so high, everything is catered to them, making it extremely difficult to get any work unless you speak spanish or unless your cousin's boyfriend's sister's aunt's brother knows you, then you got a job no problem, but for those of us who don't have all of our family members living in the same damn house that we do, it won't work out so well. Since the majority of them have never ventured further then their own backyards and have never seen any other place outside of Texas, they are extremely ignorant to any other culture or place but their own, which is nothing more than a cesspool of stupidity and ignorance in a flour tortilla. Hispanic parents don't encourage their children to go to school and better themselves, therefore they have the highest drop out rate here and end up pregnant by age 13. A high school even wanted to build a nursery for their student's children. It's like having a baby to them is some kind of cute accessory even though they're only 16 and haven't even graduated high school yet. I've never seen this in any other place as abundantly as San Antonio. And I laughed at the whole "woman with 5 kids on her 50th boyfriend" because it's true. And the drunk driving rate is among the highest, so it's not just the inability to drive. Every week someone is killed by a hispanic person because he or she was under the influence. This city has one of the highest motor vehicle accidents in the country, need I explain why? Not to mention the city is always under construction just like she said. A new school is added almost every month which makes taxes skyrocket. It's absolutely abysmal...well... it's abysmal for those of us who have some sort of common sense and who have actually lived in some of the rest of the world compared to a native born San Antonian. Sorry if anyone gets all butthurt about these comments, but it's the truth. East Coast is where it's at.

I am planning on moving from Illinois and I won’t believe this description. If LauMand were right, she would’ve left a long time ago. I cannot see myself staying in such a place just because of an apartment lease! Let alone my whole life, even if I were only 27.
Yes, I know that it’s expensive to default in those contracts, but it can’t be barely compared to being discriminated and miserably paid, let alone risking losing your life or being raped, and I am a man. We, men, are usually not as paranoid as women. And talking about something men are better than women, this brings something else.
It’s a shame to see the twisted values from today. Today, calling women “the weak sex” or any other derogatory name (even subtle ones like “babe”) causes serious outrages than can get you into big trouble, but despising the poor is OK. It’s OK describing them as “shady”, living immoral lives, creepy looking, parasites, etc. And this complain goes not only to people like Laumand, but also to those poor who think they are shameful and other who claim they are well to do. That is not the issue.
The Liberals fought for the civil rights of all oppressed people and things since the 60’s: the environment, the non-whites, the poor and women. This fight is eternal, but now after all these decades, some groups are betraying the hands that fed them. More women are feeling entitled and despise or envy other groups without thinking that the they themselves -women- also got benefits from those civil rights fights. I notice that in this blogs and elsewhere, just look at true monsters, hatred-promoters like Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin.
Have you forgotten how “creepy” looking were the former immigrants from Europe? And yes, they did increase crime. Have you forgotten that the typical white American used to be quite poor, a farmer or factory worker working 12 or more hours a day, no insurance, no benefits, no vacations, no nothing! The typical white America wasn’t as rich as today, only after the 40’s the started living in nice houses, having cars, telephones, etc. The 20’s were also booming but they came with a bill. We, the Hispanics, are a nothing but the same as you!
And finally, please stop offending us, non-white men. I totally agree with another of the bloggers. American white women are always anxious and paranoid that we rape them and kill them, that is so offensive! You can’t even stare at them a few seconds without them freaking out. Never mind that these women always complain of being fat and ugly, suffer eating disorders, etc. Yet, they still regard are hot enough as to attract enough a strange man to smuggle them in public. Just a reminder that rapists and murders are usually men that the victims already know, meaning they are usually their white counterparts.
Unfortunately, this mental disease of white women has spread to the rest of women at some extend too.
If you, white women, choose to ignore my complain, I’ll tell you that the USA census shows a big increase of births since the 80’s, meaning this nations is going to be full of youth in the next decade, meaning more crime after the peaceful 90’s and 2000’s. Now, you’ll truly have a reason to fear and regret not enjoying the peace all those years.

You're a bigot and you're pretty illiterate for a college student. Why don't you move? Burlington, Vermont is full of snobby white people. You'd love it.

Wow. Anger a plenty. Here's how i see this. Take it or leave it, my opinion is just that. Mine. I am a born and sometimes raised proud as hell San Antonian. My father was military so after a tour, we always came back. I am now 35 with a family of my own, living in Utah. ( oh help) . Lamaud may be right on only some things. Yes SA is dirty, what large, mass city isnt? You want to point fingers at a specific race, do so if it makes you feel better. I am mexican with pale skin and red hair and proud of it. My gramdmother moved here more than 60 yrs ago put herself through nursing school and made a life. So many people want to point errors. What about SA'S beauty? Fun? Seaworld, fiesta texas, the rich history of the alamo and downtown trolley? I've been homesick for the wonderful southern life again, my husband & i r moving back in summer. I've been gone too long. You can love or hate where u live. U have that choice. But don't ruin it for others. Yes SA is full of crime. Its not the city, its the world thats messed up. Don't love it? Leave it. As for me, i say... American by birth, Texan by the Grace of God.

You know what maybe it is a somewhat racist view but if it's the truth then it is. hispanics act like they're right and they never act racist which it total bull bc I went to school in san antonio and i constantly experienced reverse racism and yet their the freaking minority...whatever the terms need to be updated since we are dealing with outdated views.

CREATE PEACE EVERYONE, NOW! I am from Missoula, Montana. I suggest each and everyone occupy your minds with hitting the trail to the nearest volunteer community agency. YOU BECOME AS YOU ARE... You are either part of the problem or part of the solution. I plan to visit San An and will constructively share my stay...like wise you are welcome to Montana... Active citiZENs have the gift of natural intelligence awakening in their hearts to share positively for those on there way. Duds verbalize w/o actually realizing what negativity they have become. Every thought could be "HERE & NOW" about GOOD. Teach it,live it, waddle in good, create so much of it that becomes enough for what you dislike to change. OOPS, yep...stop that belittling thought... good luck and maybe by time I get there you won't be passing the buck to readers on Sperlings.
