| Moderate Climate - 7/23/2008
Rogers, AR is located about 4 hours south of Kansas City and is nestled in the Ozarks. The winters are moderate with an average temperature of 40 degrees. There are a couple of snow falls and a bit of ice each season, just enough to keep it interesting. Spring is beautiful, with plenty of rain to fill Beaver Lake and bring out the Dogwoods that flourish here. Summer is comfortable for the most part, rarely reaching 100. There is some humidity, but not like the deep south. Evenings are usually comfortable for outdoor activities, like catching a Naturals game or enjoying an outdoor movie in historic downtown Rogers.[read more...]

| Home Prices, Transportation, Entertainment and Sch - 8/22/2007
I have been reading other posts on this website regarding Rogers, AR and as a resident of this city I must say I don't understand where the criticism comes from. Homes in the area are still priced well below the national average, making it a very affordable place to live. A Majority of the residents here have great jobs due to the 50+ fortune 500 companies that have an office presence in Rogers. The World's largest retailer is 5 miles away in bentonville and Tyson foods and JB Hunt are just minutes down the road. Job growth in the past 5 years is 10X the national average! There is also a World trade center here. As for the lack of public transportation, you should check into "Ozark Regional Transit" which is a Public bus line that runs just about anywhere in the 4-city area (Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers-Bentonville) and also to and from the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport. Also, over $250 Million has been spent on road improvements and overpasses in the past 2 years and driving is becoming less and less of a headache. Nearly all new road projects boast AT LEAST 4 lanes. Until recent years, there has not been much in the way of entertainment in Benton County, but it seems that a new venue pops up in the area every day now. We have Museums, State Parks, Several Movie Theaters, Minor-League and College Sports, Broadway Shows, Rodeos, Lakes, Bars and Nightclubs (in Fayetteville), Dozens of fairs and Festivals and hundreds of great restaraunts to choose from. Also, anyone who says the schools are just OK, they should really do their homework. Bentonville, Rogers and Springdale High Schools all ranked in the top 1000 schools nationwide based on AP testing reults. Rogers and Bentonville are in the top 10% of exit exam test scores nationwide as well. I have lived in the Little Rock Metro, Shreveport-Bossier, LA area as well as the Kansas City, MO Area and Northwest Arkansas is the hands-down better place to live, all things considered. With a census predicted 650,000 residents in the metro area by 2020, it will also be relatively the same size as the others as well. Come join us and see for yourself.[read more...]

| Rogers, AR - 5/8/2007
Quality of life is pretty good. Beaver lake is a very nice lake. If you are into Hunting, Fishing and boating you'll love this place. Otherwise, very rural feel. Locals are very friendly. Crime is going up. Local traffic is insane due to growth and slow building of wider roads. Huge influx of Hispanic immigrants in last 5 years. Housing still reasonable compared to the rest of the country. New Mountain bike park in Bentonville, incl. a jump park-all free-very cool. Rogers is a dry county- so you have to drive to MO or Washington County to buy booze. Restaurants serve alcohol though. Schools are OK- not great, just OK. U of A in Fayetteville is a great school. If you like college sports the Hogs have quite a following. Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art being built in Bentonville. Very hot and humid summer (from June thru August and sometimes all the way into October) limits outdoor activity. Fall is the best time of year.[read more...]

| If you live in this area, you better have access t - 10/12/2006
This has got to be one of the only places I've ever visited/lived that had NO PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION AT ALL! Traffic is a nightmare, as these tiny streets can't handle the growth of the area. Thanks to Tyson and Walmart, this area is booming, and the hicks that run the area need to do something about it and not let Walmart pull their strings! Rogers actually has a few sidewalks, but I can't say that about other cities/towns in Benton County. You'd get killed trying to walk or ride a bike on these highways, and there is no kind of bus to speak of. If you are without transportation, I hope for your sake that you live close to wherever you need to go![read more...]

| traffic safety - 7/29/2005
I think your web site and book are both terrific and I have recommended them to many people. I think a category you might want to add in the future is traffic safety. The national highway traffic safety administration has a web site that shows the number of traffic fatalities per 100,000 population per year. http://www-nrd.nhtsa.dot.gov/pdf/nrd-30/NCSA/TSF2001/2001statedata.pdf. I dont know where to get that info by city or by metro. But there is a huge variation among the states and more people die each year from traffic fatalities than murder. Wreckless driving could be included as a crime. Or you might want a separate category for traffic safety. The state of MA, for example had a rate of 7.48 traffic fatalities per 100,000 in 2001, and the state of AR had 22.70. Other notable states are CA 11.47, and MS at 27.43. An interesting observation I have made is that the southern states, from FL up to NC over to OK and TX all have very high fatality rates. The lowest of those is TX, which at 17.46 is way above the national average of 14.79. I lived in UT (12.86) for many years and was never in a collision. I have lived in AR (22.70) for several years and have been hit so many times that I have now memorized the form number the state has for reporting accidents. The wreckless way that southerners drive has certainly affected my quality of life here. Could you build that into your web site?[read more...]
