Cost of Living and Housing

I may be moving to the Newport News area for a job relocation soon. I am wondering how the economy is there. I currently live in pittsburgh, pa and am a new Rn looking to get out of Pa. Am wondering if anyone knows what new RN's make starting out there. I am also wondering if anyone knows anywhere around the newport news area where the cost of housing is decent and the neighboorhood is a nice area. I have a 5 year old daughter so am very conscience about crime and the neighboorhood i would live in. Thanks to anyone who has any suggestions or comments.
