This state of CT on the whole is too expensive to live in. I have lived in Meriden my entire life and I really have nothing to compare it to. As cities go it is not bad but I wouldn't recommend it as a place in which to move to.

Pricey ghetto - 11/17/2012

I have lived here for over 3 years and the crime has gotten significantly worse. I live on the outskirts but when I watch the news, I am appalled at the amount of crime in this small city. Does not make any sense. Add to that the fact that one will naturally have trepidation about going out in this city after dark makes this a particularly crappy place to live. There is a Westfield Mall but it is one of those types of malls you want to get in and out of as quickly as possible b/c never sure when a ruckus might break out! If looking to relocate, skip this place. Also in checking on environmental disasters, there are brownfields and polluters and one of them is within a mile of my house...great! [read more...]

Meriden has become a joke! - 9/1/2010

Meriden was such a great town many years ago. It's now a garbage town full of losers, drug dealing, welfrare rats, people that won't speak english, thugs, whores and ghetto acting people. I can't wait to get out of here! The downtown area is so depressing and sad! The town now has a dirty feel to it. The central part of Meriden makes me sick.Meriden feels like a small version of a crappy part of the Bronx,NY!!!! Now more bums than ever are walking the streets of Meriden. They make me sick.I've come so close to knocking a few of them out. This town is full of smelly ass bums. Meriden is also a HUGE welfare and section 8 town.I'm just telling it like it is. Alot of pretty neighborhoods but not for long because the losers are slowly moving in there also.[read more...]

the armpit of Connecticut - 2/22/2009

Lets see, $360/month property tax on a $199K/1,568 sq ft home, $57/month water&sewer for two people, $101/month homeowners insurance, $550 to fill the heating oil tank, 6% sales tax, $286 for motor vehicle taxes on an 8 year old vehicle valued at $8125, $225 for January utilities (electric), $23/month trash removal, $130/month for phone/TV/internet service. Now I'll quote directly from today's newspaper, "Its crazy here, says Edgar Santiago, I used to pay $250 a month for a studio apartment, now they want $700. I can't affort it". Oh, and the police blotter for today, we have disorderly conduct, second-degree breach of peace, evading responsibility, reckless driving, two counts interfering with an officer, third-degree assault, third-degree strangulation, risk of injury to a child, and lots more. Anyone want to swap places?[read more...]

Taxes, Utilities Out of Control - 2/7/2008

As a 40+ year resident of CT, I have finally had enough. Property taxes in Meriden, CT are out of control. The city council spends money like it is water. Electricity is the 2nd most expensive in the country after a failed attempt at deregulation. Oil is outrageous as is natural gas. Jobs are becoming more and more difficult to find - if you want a wage that you can live on, that is. If you are looking for a great place to live, look elsewhere.[read more...]

Lived here for over 10 years not a good place for - 8/10/2007

I came from a smaller town in CT. and the HIgh School was much better then Meridens. The local Town Council is for higher taxes and no real rewards for Families. The whole culture here is bad for raising children, we are looking for a place to raise our children without the influence that runs rampant thru this town. We want a more conservative town with values, morals and good education. Test scores are very low for CT. here too. Jen[read more...]
