Chattanooga, Tennessee SperlingViews

Despite the city's past record (the downtown area was a mess 10 yrs ago), a lot of money has been put into the downtown area especially. Chattanooga really is a beautiful city. There is lots to do (TN Aquarium, shops, art district, art museums, etc...) and tons of historical sites (Chattanooga Choo Choo, Trail of Tears Memorial, Reed Hotel). It has that big city feel with the small city price. The climate is wonderful with fairly warm summers (humid) and no snow! Well, if we do get snow, it's a miracle! :D Temperatures vary quite a bit in the fall and winter, but fall time is by far my favourite. You won't need that jacket until November. Chattanooga is a big tourist attraction in the fall time. Nestled in a valley surrounded by beautiful mountains, it is a stunning place to live (or visit!)

Most of the crime takes place in the southern part of the city. And an abundance of homeless is a problem in Chattanooga.

Public education is not highly regarded although there are several universities within 30 minutes of Chattanooga (including UTC <- not recommended!) Several Teachers have moved to Georgia because of the higher pay.

Politics in Chattanooga...are typical politics. We recently had our city representative arrested for bribery charges.

Religion. Chattanooga is frequently called the "buckle of the Bible belt". There are over 350+ churches.

Unfortunately there is also a lot of prejudism/racism (especially towards non-Americans). I'm sick of it. That's one of the reason I don't want to live in the south any more. I'm moving back up north.
