Paradise? Are we in the same place??? - 10/21/2011

I moved here with my husband and two children last year to be closer to my retired MIL and I can't wait for our lease to expire. The education system is laughable. State-sponsored VPK is nice but after that, good luck. If you're at all reasonably well-educated the schools here will make you cry for your childrens' future prospects. I doubt you could throw a rock at a group of people and hit anyone who could construct a sentence using a plural possessive. There are tons of VERY young mothers here (literally tons; the obesity epidemic is rampant here, too) and very few people in possession of all their teeth. If you aren't on a boat on the river every weekend, you're not part of the community. And, if you are on the river, you're practically in the shadow of the lovely Crystal River nuclear plant. Do yourself a favor. Pay a little more in rent each month and live closer to Tampa. And move away before your kids start school. Unless you're retired this place just isn't worth it.[read more...]

Welcome to Paradise... - 1/8/2007

That's the opening phrases you will say to your self every time you come to Citrus County. I have lived her 21 years (my whole life) and I love it, my Husband and I just got married in November and plan to start a family here. Theirs not much for the younger population but "Tampa", "Clearwater", "Orlando" even "Ocala" is only about 1 hour away. Now for the older population, I think we have everything here that they would like. We have lots of wildlife, swimming with the manatees, bird watching, kayaking, and so much more. For those of you who like antiques well your in the right place, in "Crystal River" theirs just about one on every street corner, we even have one at our local mall "2" to be exact. Citrus County in general is a great place to be, its like one of those Towns in the movies where "every one knows everybody" kinda thing.
