After moving west from the East Coast almost 30 years ago, I raised my three kids in California. The weather is stupendous but in 30 years time, the crime and overcrowding has overshadowed the benefits of sunny days. It's now time to leave "paradise" so I can enjoy a better quality of life for the next 30 years. After all, it gets so dang hot that you spend all your time in air conditioning anyway - what's the big deal if you have to stay inside to tolerate the day.

The education in Southern California has continually gone downhill and although they keep trying it doesn't appear to be making a difference. Now the outrageous price of housing makes it nearly impossible to live here and the overcrowded freeways make it appalling to go anywhere without at least 3 hours of commute time. Ridiculous. It's just not worth it anymore. I'd rather buy layers of high quality winter clothes and move somewhere that you can enjoy your days instead of worry about the guy in the next car popping you with a gun because of road rage. Good bye So Cal. Good luck.

Good and Bad - 2/25/2010

Best to live here December through June. July through November is too hot, too dry, too smoggy. Best jobs are an hour+ away. Commute time decreases quality of life. True, you have the beauty of the mountains, the desert, the seaside--all 1 to 1 1/2 hours away, but you have to tolerate dense traffic and crowds everywhere you go. Everything is overpriced, especially property, so many people rent, which makes for more transience in neighborhoods. We are so busy making ends meet, we have little time or money left over to enjoy recreation or entertainment that is so plentiful in Southern California. It's a carrot-on-a-stick experience living here. All that said, San Dimas is a jewel among its surrounding sister cities.[read more...]

San Dimas California is the best Senior friendly p - 11/24/2006

We live in a very homey and friendly mobile home park called Charter Oak. It is great. All the neighbors are so helpful and we all look out for each other. Many are still employed but most as you can imagine are retired. We are so close to beautiful parks and outdoor recreation, plus lots of great shopping for fun and necessity. Like Trade Joes, Target, Lowes, Home Depot and more. The movie theater is just a few miles away in another great and quaint city -La Verne. Come on down to San Dimas![read more...]
