As one who is aware of the demographics of the area, I would have to say with certainty that Deland has a much higher PR/Hispanic population. This is not to say this is a bad thing. Were I to compare this area to another, I would say suburban NJ, maybe Queens but not the Bronx. The number of illegals here is minimal. They're mostly out west to weed the fern farms and potato fields. As far as criminals, you can no longer run. The internet and computers changed all that. The place is not perfect. It's too small, very, very diverse and jobs are limited. If you do not have an income, DO NOT MOVE HERE! You may be attracted by bargain rents right now, but I am not kidding DO NOT MOVE HERE! You will not find work and you may be stranded.
