| Accessible and Inclusive - 3/21/2009
Waukesha is a small city, 65K population, with the amenities of a larger town. Its access to library, daily shopping, mainline restaurant fare and outside activity is very good. It is also bitterly cold four months of the year.[read more...]

| NRA devotees, SUV sucking Republicans, and illegal - 6/1/2007
I agree with Larry; that's why I'm moving back to Connecticut!
Also of great concern is that Waukesha is a sanctuary city for illegal Mexicans. Its' schools are consistently in serious budget crisis and overrun with the anchor children of the illegals, and Waukesha town government and residents seem to take no measures to stop the madness and illegal take-over of their town and schools. I know, because I attempted to address this at a school board meeting and was immediately shot down. I'm getting the hell out of here and going back to a liberal town which doesn't allow anyone without a valid green card and/or visa to attend their thriving public schools and permeate their beautiful town with a bunch of illegal Mexicans.[read more...]

| decent but cold! - 4/29/2007
Waukesha is a decent place to live. Overall, quite safe and not too many places I wouldn't walk down the street at night. Really, for the most part a nice place to bring up a family. Still a ways away from the corruption of Milwaukee. Would never live there!!!
Job situation isn't too bad out here. Would not work in Milw, either. My wife does and the drive in and out isn't good, but that's normal I guess. She usually takes the streets because the "expressway" gets so backed up. When it's not snowing out, they're doing construction and that backs things up even worse. They are in the process of rebuilding the entire expressway system. Downtown was a HUGE mess but it's getting better and it is very nice. Back to Waukesha...
Cost of living is decent here, nice places to eat and shop but the nightlife is terrible unless you like to sit at the corner bar. There is NO nightlife, it is all back in Milw. There might be some nice bars to go to, but there is no "happening area".
Weather is way too cold. This winter we had snow from Oct - April and there were days when it was so cold, they closed the schools. It never even made it to zero! And, our gas/electric bill for a month is $350 in the heart of winter. My wife got a job in Fort Lauderdale and we're moving (back) to Florida. Housing may be expensive, but it's worth it to be able to enjoy life outside (beach bums at heart).
All in all, if you don't mind long, frigid winters and short, hot summers, you would probably enjoy Waukesha, WI. It's relatively safe, quiet, and people are generally nice. It is the end of April and although today is supposed to be a hi of 80, in 3 days the hi is back down to 51. Crazy, and not unusual...[read more...]
