If you don't mind high crime, people driving like crazy, expensive rent or morgage, poor public transportation, houses wayyyyy too close to each other, high taxes and high unemployment, well then, move here, all the above is going to be waiting for you. | I Liked living In Hollywood - 3/5/2012
I enjoyed living here , although there were some negatives and positives. Negatives were, Rents are rediculously HIGH,, Not many jobs at all most of Hollywood is residential , Not too many options when it comes to employment, Real Estate was the best area to work in for awhile , But that buble bursted and is having a hard time to recover, In stores like Sedanos and Bravo expect to be ignored if you are not hispanic, I am usually a very friendly but if the cashier doesn't even look in your direction while ringing you up, I tell them , arent you suppose to greet your customers. Traffic to Miami Is crazy, The roads are ok can get a little confusing sometime when a road ends and you need to find it again, But not too bad cause they usually just go north South east and west unlike New england. Positives were the beach, the parks (many have miniture water parks in them) The Church Segadores de Vida , at the moment located corner of Taft and 441. Preaching is in spanish, but they have head phones, But the Message is from God, The Spirit of God is Alive and well and there are many people who are giving up their own life to do Gods Will In this church, I live in Orlando Now and I find it much more affordable the people are much nicer here But just like in South Florida its not that easy to find a job although there are a lot of Jobs here in Orlando You just need to be well qualified...And I am in another

There is so much to do in Hollywood. It is my home city. Cultural and arts festivals are constant, and there is always something good to do. Living near the beach is best...but make sure you're insured well--in case of hurricanes.[read more...]

In 10 minutes, I can be in downtown Fort Lauderdale and ready to see a top-notch Broadway touring company. In 10 minutes, I can be sitting under the stars listening to big band jazz at an ocean front amphitheater. Add 10 more minutes, and I can be at the ballet or the symphony or any number of galleries.
Not into the arts? How about a world-class beach, windsurfing or sailing in 10 minutes? Or deep in a cypress-lined stream and kayaking in 10 minutes? It's all here...heaven![read more...]

want to be close to Miami and Fort lauderdale
need to live close to an airport
don't mind a poor school system
don't mind little to no artistic environment
don't mind having to drive EVERYWHERE
don't need public transportation

Hollywood, which was once a nice, quiet and sleepy beach town, has morphed into and overpriced, tacky and overrated cesspool. Think Niagra falls with palm trees. I have lived here 7 years. Since I moved here the housing growth has probably tripled and now there are more condos, townhouses and houses in inventory than there are people looking to buy. The real estate market is so overpriced, taxes so outta wack and insurance rediculously astronomical that people are racing to leave the tricounty area in droves. The restaurants are horrible, "quaint" shops are a dime a dozen and sell nothing useful to even the very wealthy. If you don't mind a Spanish flare too everything and sweating 325 days a year, then you might like it here. The weather ain't all that. Temps range in the 90's for 4/5th of the year. I don't care what has been recorded bt the NWS, my A/C runs all year round!! Don't let the brochures fool you. It is sweltering here from May to January. The Mayor is reportedly so crooked she could be used as a coat rack and the City of Hollywood beats down it's residents by making the building permit procedure that of passing a bill in congress. No one can build onto their house with out going through a 2 year process with the city. And let's not even go there with the unscrupulous contractors down here. They do shoddy work, leave jobs and never return and charge outrageous fees that they won't refund even if they are sued (the just go out of business). And that's in a non Hurricane year! My neighbors had a blue roof for 2 years after Wilma. I could go on for hours and I have not even mentioned the rats, bugs, cats and homeless people that frequent every square mile of this hell hole. In case you are wondering. I am trying to get out but job opportunities ain't what they used to be. STAY AWAY from Dade, Broward and evre increasingly, Palm Beach Counties. Unless of course, you get here on a raft in the Atlantic.[read more...]
