University and water supply are. coming to Payson - 8/1/2013

Payson has bunches of good news for the economy, education and quality of life. A deal has been finalized for land in town from forest service that will be the site of a new high tech university. That deal and the water rights and supply that Payson secured recently, means nothing but good things.

Payson - Great little town - 11/23/2010

Excellent government. Beautiful surroundings and the nicest people from all over the world make Payson a great place to live. Check out the art galleries and local artists. Hike the trails and fish the streams. Less than two hours from the heart of Phoenix, without the big city hassles. If you like small towns with hip people - throw in a few cowboys - then Payson is right for you!

Beware the cost of an emergency room visit at Pays - 11/13/2010

I recently went to Payson Regional Medical Center for severe pain in my side. I thought I was having an appendicitis attack or gallstones. When I arrived I was brought into a room fairly quickly. Blood was taken, 1 tube. The nurse inserted an IV and then gave me a pain killer through the IV and also something for nauseau through the IV. That was it, 2 little IV pushes of meds. After 3 hours of laying there, I was brought into X-Ray to have a CT scan. 5 minutes later I was done. I lay there for another 2 hours before I found the results. Nothing serious and another hour later, after asking repeatedly for a nurse to come remove my IV hookup in my hand, that they incidently never rehooked back up to the IV after my CT scan, I was on my way home. I knew it would be expensive, but imagine my shock when I received a bill for over $10,000!!! Today I received an itemized copy showing 3 extra pain meds and over $3,500 each for 2 CT scans! I will have to pay this bill, but I just want to warn anyone coming through Payson. If you feel ill, head back down to the valley! Payson will charge you triple what you would pay down there. Next time I get ill I'm driving and hour south. Oh..forgot to tell you, I saw a doctor for about 10 minutes total time. It's not worth it to get sick in Payson. BEWARE!

Heat during summer - 7/12/2010

I beg to differ with the person who said there are many days over 100 in Payson. I have lived here for over 20 years. One summer- during the Dude Fire we had the heat from that fire contributing and we had 6 days over 100 in a row, but that is unusual. We usually only have a few days over 100 in the summer. Most days are in the 90s but afternoon monsoon clouds and rain often cool us off. We also often have breezes that make it feel a little cooler. Nothing like the valley. And many of us don't have A/C.

Payson water update report... - 6/17/2009

Payson is on track to receive water from the Blue Ridge reservoir within the next 8 or 10 years. It'll provide 3,000 acre feet annually, enough to support a lot more people than most folks in Payson would like to see. Current well production is more than sufficient to carry the present and projected population until water from Blue Ridge arrives. Payson is a hiker's paradise with well over 100 different hiking trail within 30-50 miles, ranging from summer hikes on the Mogollon Rim (edge of the Colorado plateau at 7,000 - 7,500 ft elevation) to winter hikes in the Valley (2,500 ft elevation).

Living in Payson - 8/22/2006

Payson has tradionally been a pass through town for folks from Phoenix going to the rim country. Now developers have Payson on the radar screen and are trying to make a fast buck before moving on by creating subdivisions on any public land they can find. There is one big problem however. Payson does not have the water to support growth. People moving here should realize that if additional water resources are not found, this town has the potential to become a ghost town like so many in the West. Even is water is found, the cost will be considerable. It is expected that the monthly charge within a few years will be $50/mo and that is a conservative estimate.
