Brentwood, CA

Brentwood CA, 94513 is located halfway between San Francisco and Sacramento. It is minutes away from the Delta where the San Joaquin and Sacramento rivers meet. It was the corn and fruit basket for the Bay area and the Central Valley. Recently the fields have been plowed and replanted with a new crop, concrete, stucco and paint. From this town of 10K in 1997 it is now a small city with 40K+ with no site in end for the current city council and with all the problems and baggage that everyone brings.

We used to be able to leave our garage doors open and our front doors unlocked, not anymore. Brentwood was a small hidden jewel that you shared the road with the tractors and where you knew the local farmer, which we still do. The Arata's and Wolfe's provide awesome home delivery of local produce. But, now we have a Home Depot and Lowe's, there are 5 Starbucks in this little town. Why, who needs all of it.

It is sad to watch our little town change to another city that we moved away from.

re: The changing of a smaill town. - 8/18/2005 - 5/28/2011
I am wondering about the commuter traffic. I could live in either Brentwood or maybe Walnut Creek/Pleasant Hill. My job (maybe) will be in Brentwood, so I am wondering if it is a nice place for (young/single) people to live, or if I am better off living in another nearby town and commuting in to Brentwood? I guess I am wondering if the commuter traffic is bad both going East into Brentwood and West, or is it bad just going away from Brentwood (west?). I am from a very small town originally but I have been living in San Diego for the past 7 years, so I am not sure what area/town is best for me to try living in up there while I have this job? Please give me any advice/recommendations as I don't know anyone up in the area to help me out! Thanks!

RE: Brentwood is a jewel - 11/17/2010

I love living in Brentwood. Our city planners and workers have done an excellent job in creating a beautiful city filled with trees, parks, well- planned communities, preserved farmlands, and shopping hubs. No matter where you drive in Brentwood, you will find beauty. What little blight we have, our city is working to remove it. Our police department has kept the crime lower than the other cities in the Bay Area. Most of all, the people are friendly. I've travel to many places in the world and I am always so happy to return to beautiful and serene Brentwood.[read more...]

The California Delta & Fresh Produce! - 9/30/2008

We moved to a new “Active Adults” (over 55) housing development in Brentwood about 6 years ago. The location is great if you like to fish, go pleasure-boating, or water ski, as the CA Delta is around 5 miles from the center of town. There are a few marinas that make it convenient for launching watercraft near Brentwood: from Discovery Bay to the city of Antioch, and beyond. Another great feature is the abundance of FRESH fruit & produce you can find at roadside stands fronting the fields where the food is actually grown. Brentwood white corn is very well known and simply delicious! On the Plus Side: The people here are very nice. The city has tried to keep the “Small Town” feel by offering community events throughout the year. There are quite a few golf courses for the adults and organized team sports for the school children. BFE Location: There is commuter traffic. We are a good 30 – 45 minutes from any decent jobs. You really can’t move to Brentwood and then complain about the long commute to Walnut Creek, Livermore or points beyond. This is a reality you notice when first coming to see Brentwood. Friends make it seem like it’s the edge of the world when visiting us, so we usually end up visiting them (since we are already commuting in their direction.) A Drawback: For me it’s the HOT weather from June to early October, and it is windy… but there is always the community pool… (o: [read more...]

Great Place to Live! - 1/22/2008

Brentwood in Northern California is a great place to live! I have lived here and in the surrounding area for well over 12 years and absolutely love it. Brentwood is central to almost everything, the beach, sierra's, delta, and the valley.[read more...]
