| Moving to Midland Michigan - 1/19/2010
I left Midland Michigan 5 yrs ago for the west coast. After 5 years in northern California I'm moving back to Midland. Midland is a great place to raise a family. I really missed the high quality schools, the parks, the city services, the many churches, the Santa House and much more. Most of all I missed the people; Midland is a town where people stay. Many families here have lived all over the globe as employees of Dow and Dow Corning, yet they love it here. I'm happy to be back in living in Midland Michigan. As an added perk Midland now has a minor league baseball team, new basketball facilities and the Midland Country Club renovation is near completion.[read more...]

| Wonderful place to live! - 6/1/2009
This city offers recreational items, Midland Center for the Arts, the Rail Trail, & Antique festivals. Very family oriented. If you are interested in the "Bar Scene" - head over to Bay City. Bay City and Saginaw are conveniently near by and offer a wide variety of shopping, home improvement and entertainment, while Midland offers that small town feel with access to much more.[read more...]

| Quiet Place to live - 6/19/2008
I moved to Midland for school and thought it was awful. After school I moved to Orlando, FL. After four years in Florida I am really striving to get back to Midland. For raising a family or just enjoying the better side of life(relaxing and peace) I think Midland is a great town. Unlike Orlando Midland has no traffic, decent sized lots, low home prices, nicer people and is overall a great small town.[read more...]

lived here all my life-im only still here because its my roots and birth place and im familar with midland being here 54 yaers,midland is yes a very snobbish town allways has been-and its city policys do discriminate against equal employment and opportunity,there is no place better to see this then in the food vendoring buissness-if your a lincensed vendor pay your insurence and perments and lincense fee,your second class and 95% of time ignored and pushed aside and not allowed to opperate-for food vendors at midland county fairground and fourth of july events are for the elitest and buissness owners other wise your son your daughter or yourself are denied access to theese events even though you have all qaulifications and the right-buissnes owners of big stores make sure city hall and chamber of commerce keep u out-so nexst time your at the fairgrounds just remember those folks are store owners being given special privilage and injunction with city hall make sure public never gets a chance to opperrate as a food vendor at theese events-and even when u fight your way in they play dirty and give u a location where theres no buissness-so this one of midlands dirty little secrets-the fair food vendors are local buissness owners or connected to by family members-same fourth of july event-special prilligae vendors are given the location at the fouth of july public person indenpent from buissness foundation are given verey poor location to do buissness-so remember when u visit the county fair and are ready to buy from a food vendor-you are denied that right-it belongs to the elitest of midland-even though you have paid all your dues-you as a citizen will be denied as a food vendor and if u push and fight your way in-you will be harrased by city inspectors-when u inquire and check into theese fairgrounds food vendors u will find there all connected with buissness,s in the city of midland-this gives insight to what politics of midland are[read more...]

| Great place for a family - 2/22/2008
I grew up in Midland until I moved away for college. It is an incredible place for a family with young children. There are lots of parks and it's a safe, decent town. However, if you are looking for adventure this is not your place. Teenagers usually hate it, but hey, at least they're not getting into tons of trouble! I would give my right arm to move back, and almost everyone I know from Midland says the same thing.[read more...]

Trust me if you are not retired or an employee of Dow, then don't move here, there is nothing to do, no night life to speak of, the property is expensive and the land taxes are very high, and the people are very snobby. although there are good sides too, the high taxes afford some nice things, high police presence, excellent schools and public services. If you are under 35 you could definitely move to a more exiting city than midland, but if you are just a really boring person with a bad attitude towards people who are not as well off as you, then Midland is just the place you are looking for.[read more...]

| The little big town - 12/12/2006
We call Midland the little big town. Home to Dow Chemical and Dow Corning companies headquarter with population of just over 40,000, it is a small town with small town virtues. At the same time it offers much of the amenities that larger towns offer, such as art and culture. Other advantages include excellent education, healthcare, sporting facilities, parks and low cost of living and housing.
The town is known as the little United Nation with nationalities from around the globe working for a fortune 50 company. You can also say it is a little jewel not discovered by all and enjoyed immensely by the folks who do live here. Midland is only a short distance away from the Detroit, and yet shorter distance away from natural beauties of northern Michigan and Great Lakes.

| Midland - 10/31/2006
I grew up in Freeland, not very far from Midland. I agree with previous post that people can be snobby there. We always considered it a more "high-end" town. It is very well kept for the most part with cute neighborhoods. I definately recommend the tridge. It's a nice place to go on a picnic. Also, Dow Gardens is gorgeous and where I got married. They have a nice mall too. If I'm not mistaken you can go fishing and boating in Midland also. In the winter they have all kinds of Christmas decorations that is worth investigating. Overall a very nice town that the residents seem to take pride in.[read more...]

| Bedroom Community - 6/9/2006
This post is an addition to my previous description. About the people - they can be friendly, however, they can be snobby. Mind you, I am not the only person who feels that way. Everyone I know, who moved to the community from a large city can also sense the aloof attitude. Otherwise, I must admit that it is a quiet town with little crime and a very large percentage of residents who have higher education, such as Ph.D.'s. About regional locations for excitement - the "Tridge" and the Midland Center for the Arts (mcfta.com) are the two major highlights in town, in my opinion. Both are really worth a visit! Two more important and interesting places include The Mackinaw Center and Northwood Institute, both downtown, near Main Street and come highly recommended.[read more...]

| Bedroom community - work for Dow Chemical - 1/24/2006
If you don't work for the Dow Chemical Corporation, you will probably work in the service industry (restaurant worker, teacher, etc.). You're nobody if you don't work at Dow Chemical. There's hardly any crime, at least it's not reported. The population seems to be around 93% Caucasian, 2% Black and 5% Asian (that's just a guess from living here for 30 years). The highest per capita Ph.D. population because they need educated people to work as Chemists and Executives at Dow. Need I say more? Oh, wait, one more thing...we have a VERY adorable foot bridge that connects where three rivers meet. It's call the Tridge because it's a bridge with three legs. Go online to get an image of it. It's very cute. Home of Northwood University which is a fabulous business school. If you're into that kind of thing. Weather? Snowy, humid and cold.
