| I have to agree with Dr. Mary on the comment she posted.
I lived in this city for over 50 yrs. with a 10 yr. miss in the 70s.
I'm retiring this year and will be soo glad to get out of this sewer.
This is the highest tax and highest car ins. area in NJ and NJ makes no.1 on the car ins. list.
If you look at the crime rate its listed as avg. to the rest of the country, Most of the crimes never are reported because little or nothing is done about them. The city does not want them to be noted so it looks like a great place to be. The biggest crime is the political machine that runs this place.
As for majority of the stores, they are owned and operated by Arabs, Indians, Pakistanees, Hindues, and some Orientals. They all pedal lottery tickets and phone cards. I would not get anything from the deli section in any one of them.
If anyone thinks I'm kidding about this place, just come to visit. You will probably get a speeding/parking ticket at some point, the cops love out of towners.
Also read thru the city web page and check out what a homeowner can do to his own house with/without a permit, o yea they charge for every one.
So if you want to be living on a 25X90 lot and pay 8-10000 yr.(unless your on the city council) taxes and get a parking ticket, parked in your own driveway, welcome to Bayonne. Only the Truth jj

| Brutal Gritty Charm - 12/30/2010
Shanty Irishmen with explosive tempers who are bone-thin and driving $60,000 pick-up trucks; all too many women are either chain-smokers and/or stuff themselves into a literal stupor every day. Most men think they are tough as nails and are mad at the world for not being upper middle classed. If they found themselves in Nigeria or Port-Au-Prince, they'd be frightened little wimps.
This is a difficult yet somewhat exciting life appropriate for those who simply cannot suburbanize themselves yet abhor big city life. Thank God for the Egyptian, Hispanic, and AfroAmerican communities who tend to spice things up a little bit. Another way of looking at Bayonne is that it is a hick town in a geographically urban area.
Conclusively, though, after rushing around New York City or driving to shopping malls in the suburbs of New Jersey, Bayonne becomes an oasis. It's also relatively econominal for this neck of the woods. Yuppies and artisitic types stay clear because of its reputation for Uncle Guido and Archie Bunker types, who have, for the most part, moved away.[read more...]

| Statistcal breakdown of race - 1/27/2006
I have lived in Bayonne for all of five years of my forty five years.I have two school age children and my husband
is a Supervisor in Special Education.
Bayonne is not 81% Caucasian. This is totally untrue. There
is a huge and growing Arab population that is grossly
underreported. My third grade son is one of five Caucasian
children in his class the others are Hispanic or Arab with
two black children. He is in a class with 20 kids.
This is a typical scenario throughout Bayonne.
