"Cheap!"

Cheap! - 8/4/2007

It is a cheap place to live. About every other place I’ve looked at on Sperling’s has a higher cost of living. A lower salary goes a long way here.

Inconsiderate People - 7/2/2014

I have lived in Greeley, Colorado for 8 months and I regret ever having stepped foot in this miserable town. The people here have no consideration for others. They will blast there stereos into your home day and night, allow there dogs to run loose and if they run after you as you walk down the sidewalk, they will look at you as if you have some nerve walking past there home. As for the noisy neighbors, if you ask them to keep the noise down they will threaten you and even increase the volume of their stereos or step up whatever other noise that they have up their sleeve. such as screaming kids, barking dogs, banging, pounding you name it. They do these things on purpose just because they get a kick out seeing people get upset. The police here in Greeley are utterly useless, because they refuse to do anything to help you. Yes, Greeley is the worst city I have ever been in the my life and I have been to a lot of cities in my life. GREELEY COLORADO IS THE LOW LIFE CAPITAL OF THE WORLD!

Most fracked city in Colorado - 7/29/2013

While local governments love the oil and gas revenue, they turn a deaf ear to people concerned about health issues related to fracking. This July, there was the first reported case of someone having trouble getting a mortgage for a house 250' feet from a frack well. And so it begins. There are 427 wells as of this date, with another 200 expected within city limits, and they are in neighborhoods, not some remote outpost. Neighboring cities are banning fracking so they don't become like Greeley. Buyer beware!

Big Town with Small Town Feel - 3/9/2012

My husband and I moved from FLorida to Greeley in 2006 after suffering the 2005 Hurricane season. It is a quite place to live for 90K population. The City concentrates a lot on preserving the City for parks and the UCCC Civic Center brings in good acts at a low cost. Of course, we boast of the world's largest rodeo--the INdependence Day Stampede. There is usually something always happening every weekend. We were warned of the smell and it has really not been bad. You may smell the meat plants once a week but usually not that often. The last 2 winters have been extremely mild which has allowed you to stay busy even in the snow. You are a close drive to Denver, the mountains, the ski slopes, Wyoming and is a great place to raise a family (even if the school district is not as good as some would like--but then what school system is living up to the expectations of the public. If you want to live in a big municipality with the small town feel, Greeley is a great place to be. Oh, did I mention that we have 2 colleges in town, AIMS Community College and University of Northern Colorado.

Greeley, CO has many diverse features, such as fou - 1/6/2010

Greeley, CO provides residents with good living arrangements, such as, housing (rentals and owned), recreational outlets all over town, fairly good walking paths for keeping fit and trim, a few good stores for groceries, shopping, and for those who are on a strict budget thrift stores. Greeley has many churches providing worship opportunities and congregating with others who are like minded. Greeley, CO is a nice town in which to live.

imigrants - 12/23/2008

sperling views of the situation of imigrants in greeley is wrong allot of people have the misconception that iligal mimigrants get a free ride on govermont help and it is not true you kneed a social security number for all types of help if you dont have a social security number the goverment will not help you and it has to be your social security number i am so sorry that you are not able to get the help you need but if you were so happy were you lived why didn't you stay there instead of comming to our wonderful town of greeley co and by the way the people who do get goverment help are the one who have children who are born americans the help is for the children not for the iligal imigrants.stop being so bitter and love your neighbor as you love your self and God will help you also. God Bless You

Greeley - 3/12/2008

Zach, excellent insights on Greeley. I lived in Greeley for 6 yrs and here is my two cents worth. Pros: 1. excellent weather, bad weather rarely lasts long. 2. Very friendly people 3. Greeley has a number of nice parks 4. Greeley has a low crime rate 5. Compared to Boulder,Denver, Fort Collins,Longmont and Loveland, Greeley is a much cheaper place to live 6. nice place for a retiree 7. nice town to raise a family in. Cons: 1. awful job market with very few professional job options 2. very poor cultural scene 3. many jobs in Greeley pay very low wages 4. very little to do, many of the UNC students always leave on the weekends. 5. the K-12 system is a mess 6. foul smelling most of the time because of the slaughterhouses 7. very limited selection of good rests

Greeley, CO - 1/17/2008

I lived in Greeley from 1961-1985 and near there in 1999-2003. It did not smell very nice because of the nearby stock yards and Monforts meat processing. If you like cold, snowy winters and hot dry summers, it's a great place. If you read the comments section of the local paper on line you can learn alot about the people there. We liked Greeley, our familys are buried there. The best thing about Greeley is that you are very close to the mountains. Fishing, skiing and camping were fantastic.

DO NOT MOVE HERE - 1/12/2008

Extremely high racial tension between local white and hispanic population. World famous smell from one of the many local feedlots and slaughterhouses. High crime. High intolerance. No culture. No economy. I unfortunately grew up here. I left and will never be back.

You need a personal vehicle, period. The area has not invested in public transportation.

Religious - 8/4/2007

There are many churches. And many who I would consider fundamental in their views, whether Mormon, Catholic or Protestant. As an atheist I definitely am in the minority.

University Town - 8/4/2007

Greeley boasts a four-year university known for teaching, music, nursing and business; a community college; a high school with the International Baccalaureate program. Those who grow up here either stay here the rest of their lives or can’t wait to leave.

Not much to do here - 8/4/2007

There are many city parks and shopping, but for other entertainment you need to drive to nearby cities. Greeley has a good symphony and theater. A significant portion of the population is Hispanic and you can hear Spanish spoken throughout town.

Thefts from autos and gangs a problem - 8/4/2007

There are definitely some places in town you don’t want to be after dark. Gangs are a problem. What has affected me personally has been break-ins to vehicles and vandalism.
