Review of Sandusky, Ohio

Sandusky is a fantastic place to raise a family
Star Rating - 7/31/2007
I grew up in Sandusky (from age 2 - 22 years old) and found that the conditions are fundamentally wonderful to live and raise a family.

This town is large enough to have the following:

* symphony orchestra
* a first class theater
* quaint community theater
* concerts in the park
* a well respected regional medical center
* a WORLD CLASS amusement park called Cedar Point
* historical museums
* nature preserves
* multiple wineries
* harbours and marinas fit for pleasure crafts and yachts alike
* hot rod race track
* regional airport

The school system is very strong. We always had the supplies and the facilities that we could desire for any activity. I was involved in multiple music groups, sports teams, and clubs. We were regularly supported and recognized by the faculty and the city at large for our contributions. The games were well attended and the yearly musical was always sold out. Vocational education was just as strong as the Advanced Placement curriculum. Vocational tudents were educated in auto shop, welding, electrical design/engineering, cosmetology, carpentry, home economics, and graphic design. AP students could take college level courses to shorten their university requirements and could rely on the top notch teaching staff to get them through, whether it be English, Chemistry, Physics, etc.

The town is small enough to be able to bike all over and still get home for dinner. Teenagers have plenty of opportunities for part time work. Kids play wiffle ball in the side streets and there's even a skate park for the boarders in your life. While plenty about the city is quaint, the outside world does congregate in Sandusky, especially during the summer. Cedar Point is the largest amusement park in the world. It draws people from the U.S as well as many other countries for the thrills of roller coasters, rides and attractions that can't be found anywhere else. Put all of that on a penninsula that boasts a mile-long white sand beach, and you've got quite the summer destination. It's also a great place for the local kids and adults to find summer work and meet new people.

If you are looking for a place that is small enough to leave your kids alone outside to play, but large enough to grab your favorite Starbucks latte and head to the theater, Sandusky is a great place for you!
