| Not that bad of a place - 5/24/2013
Cheyenne only has one bad side of town.thats the south of town and people may call it a cesspool or multitude of other names most of the people who don't like Cheyenne probably live on the south of town.after being moved out for a while I find that Cheyenne is a good place to live if your older or just like the calmness and a slower paced city.Theres not much to do but you can always commute to someplace in Colorado. Most of the town is laid back each neighborhood is a little different I guess its just how you view your surroundings.Theres more than country folk out in Cheyenne too. If your in your 20s youll most likely be bored to death and want to leave unless your parents allow you to stay for free with them until you graduate college. Needs more to do is all a little more diversity wouldn't hurt anything at all. Check itd out![read more...]

| never move to cheyenne wyoming - 11/4/2012
The city should be listed as uninhabitable. The city is a dump and is filled with morebad people than good people although some come off as nice to generate a good first impression. The place is sly everybody knows everything about everything which in reality is nothing. Low crime but people try to make the place into a ghetto when its more of a slum. I wouldn't call it a good place for anybody to live although some people like it there. I didn't like the depressing hopeless feel of the city that the people live in I didn't like the few types of people out there of any race good and bad of any race. . If you must move to Wyoming move to Laramie or lander or possibley Jackson if you can afford it. Cheyenne has to many wanksters and uneducated people to satisfy any educated persons zest for life youll be gravely ddissapointed with what you find once you make Cheyenne your home. I haven't seen any other place white like it. There are a few good people out here and one or two good places to eat ruby juice being the healthiest and best restaurant I have found out there. I was born there and moved out as soon as I graduated high school. Diversity is low racial acceptance is low change is non existent. But there are pockets of goof people and good energy in the place. But be weary of the seemingly nice individual with the smirk in his or her eye or just the depressed look or feel to them. I just don't understand why such a small place has such a nastey feell to it with no vibrancy. If your looking for a vibrant city filled with good energy and vibes Cheyenne is not the place for you the city is more of a cesspool of hate distrust lots of drugs for the size and most inhabitants have been struck by the depression the city so disdainfully prides its self with.some of the inhabitants actually like the negative energy the city gives off and they actually attempt to magnifiy the negative energy and stop the good energy from flourishing. The hunting is good there's good winter sports in Laramie and Jackson the fishing is great. If your jnto to energies the city has an uncanning knack for draining yours if its good if its pure. Idk why but it just does the city the piece of la d your on drains most of the good energy here.Back to the people, theres cowboys college kids surfers snowboarders dancers and musicicans theres goths hicks bigots some neo nazis and everything inbetween. They way worse descriptions of people in which i do not have the time to describe. Theres no sports music or art venues. This was just a brief synopsis of my take on the cesspool Cheyenne Wyoming. I will never be moving back my energy is infinitiy times better than it was when I lived there. I don't know if its the people or the piece of land that causes the depressive hopeless feeling. Lots of uneducated high school drop out know it alls. Theres no way to fully satisfy your zest for life however there is hunting fishing snowboarding surfing wakeskateing longboarding and skateboarding.Perhaps the front range is more for you.apologies for my grammatical errors , I was in a hurry.[read more...]

| Western and nice for families with young children - 8/2/2012
Cheyenne definitely has a western feel to it all the large cowboy boot statutes around the city, as well as the Old West Museum. During Cheyenne Frontier Days (the last week in July)there are a lot of things to see and do as long as you don't mind fighting for a spot with all the other people that come to visit Cheyenne that week...
There are a fair amount of things to do for families with children. There are lots of parks, the Greenway (about 30 miles of paved trails), the Botanic Gardens, the Cheyenne State Museum, and the Frontier Mall. In Lions Park there is also the Children's Village, the Pool, and the Putt Hut for mini golf. There is also the Cheyenne Ice & Events Center that has laser tag, mini golf, and ice skating. There are also several golf courses.[read more...]

| Wow. I can't believe what I've read about Cheyenne - 6/27/2012
Yeah, I know how this little 2 horse town is and it amazes me at their egotistical views. I have heard that you can't fix stupid as well. But you know, Change Happens! The stupidity here drives me nuts at times and I want to smack ppl upside the head for being stupid but negativity only breeds negativity. Somewhere, someone, has to show these ppl there is more to life than the next drink and conquest! I intend to try. I love the closeness to the mountains (minus the fires plaquing CO), there is so much natural beauty, it just wouldn't be right to give it to those who don't appreciate what they have.[read more...]

| Uninhabitable flyover territory - 3/2/2012
If you are white, ignorant, racist, stupid, and hopelessly conservative politically, and you love having the wind blowing hard constantly and having absolutely nothing to do, and you don't mind having no decent restaurants to eat at, no entertainment or cultural venues whatsoever, you don't mind living 150 miles from the nearest major airport and from any professional sports venue, then you will LOVE living in Cheyenne. Contrary to what I was told about a million times while I lived there, this is NOT a good place to raise children, and the cost of living without the state income tax is NOT cheaper than comparable locations in the US. There may be no state income tax (there's a reason for that), but you have to pay a hefty Boredom Tax. Unless you meet these criteria, I would run the other way if you are considering moving to this town.[read more...]

| Cheyenne: More people at Walmart at any one time - 1/21/2012
Cheyenne, Wyoming is a place for people who do not believe they are able to succeed, professionally or socially, in a more competitive urban environment. THus they either convince themselves, or believe because they do not know any better, that Cheyenne is a nice place. That there are more people at Walmart at any one time than any other venue in the city, pretty much 24-7, really I think summarizes the quality of life here. And, again, if Texas Roadhouse and one sex partner for the next fifty years is your idea of a good time, this is the place. If you want dating options, attractive people, style, vibrancy, this is the worst place you will ever find. While it is difficult and subjective, applying international standards of physical attractiveness, social diversity and engergy, and venues for meeting interesting people, Cheyenne, Wyoming is by a wide margin the worst place I have ever seen. CHildren can be content with marbles and building blocks: likewise, simple minded boring adults can be content with Walmart and Texas Roadhouse and the same boring people day after day and year after year.
At the end of the day, it's a free country, and people can live wherever they want, and despite the arrogance and stupidity of WYominingites, fewer people want to live in their depressing hick state than any other in the country. You don't like traffic? Then pick a place which sucks and few people choose to live there and you won't have traffic: thus, Cheyenne is for you. But, if you like lots of attractive singles, professional sports, and a daily atmosphere of energy and activity and fun that attracts people, then learn to deal with traffic. The alternative is to live in a shit hole like Cheyenne where right now, tomorrow at this time, and any other time, more people are at Walmart than any other place in the city. My God.[read more...]

| Cheyenne: Great for hicks and simpletons: But if - 1/19/2012
Re: Quality of Life: Cheyenne, Wyoming
It all begins with what an individual expects and wants out of life; but, for me, Cheyenne, Wyoming is a dreadful, depressing place to live. I am single, and have generally lived in larger cities where with your free time there are venues--beaches, swimming pools, nightclubs, coffee shops--where any single person can go and be certain that he can meet someone spontaneously and have fun. In Cheyenne, no such concept exists. The bars attract the same people, there is literally no man meets woman dynamic; people go to bars, get drunk, and talk to the people they came there with or already no. As a siongle man you will not sit back jealous at other men picking up women and you cannot: no one is meeting women spontaneously and publicly in this town. All people do is go to bars or out to eat, and they meet people at work or church or wherever, but not spontaneously in vibrant social environments like a beach or urban nightclub. WOrse, the number of single women is not only the lowest anywhere, when you meet one they are the least sophisticated and dumbest. But, to be honest and scientific, the number of single women that you meet, who have there own apartment or home, a job, an independent life so to speak, is absolutely and utterly rare, and could be said to not be part of the culture here.
However, if you are ok with one partner for life, and kids are your thing, and your threshold for entertainment can be satisfied by Texas Roadhouse or Walmart and seeing the same people over and over, and if you think access to little towns like Ft. Collins, or sterile Western cities like Denver--which is nothing like L.A. or New York or Miami--then drab, windy, boring, Cheyenne with the lowest physical attractiveness index for its citizens, might be the place for you. But if you can be happy in a place like Cheyenne, there are thousands of places, rinky dink as they are, all over the country. if you've had a taste of Miami, or Atlanta, or NYC, and liked it, you will hate the shabby, hick and hillbilly aspect which is and always will be shithole Cheyenne.[read more...]

| some good - - and not so good - 12/29/2011
I have lived here for the past16 years. Relatively small town with some big town amenities. State Capital. Most any kind of shopping and eateries that you would want. If you want a larger variety then Fort Collins, Co (40 min) or Denver, Co (90 min) aren't too far away. Near mountain recreation without the mountain snows in winter. Cost of living isn't too bad unless your from the souther states, where the housing is definitely cheaper. Fuel is cheap. Has a good community college and there are several 4 year colleges within a 1-2 hour drive. If your high school student has decent grades the state provides nice scholarships to in-state colleges. No state income tax and property taxes are decent. On $200,000 home it costs approx. $1,800/yr. Not so good - - WIND !!! It can ruin outdoor activities summer and winter. We get a lot of sunny days (300/yr) but the winter wind often ruins outdoor activity. Poor neighborhood zoning. You might have a $300,000 home right across from a run down shack. Military town causes a lot of rental properties. You may be close to the mountains but they're hard to see from town. Don't expect a nice mountain view. School systems aren't too bad but if you kid isn't motivated to learn they can coast to a mediocre education. School district isn't firendly to Charter or private school choices. Home schooling is an option thats not too hard to achieve with the district requirements. Lots of job openings are filled by friends of friends or family. The "good old-boy" system is used quite a bit here. However, there is an oil boom looming on our horizon and some other new business have moved here partly because of the intersection of 2 major interstates (I-25 / I-80) and a major rail road (Union Pacific). Our local economy has held out pretty well because of natural resources. The problems that plague much of the U.S. (high energy prices) actually help Wyoming's economy.[read more...]

| some good, some not so good - 12/29/2011
Cheyenne,Wy like most places has both good and not so good qualities. Some of the good, not real big - approx. 55,000 population. Close to mountains but not as much snow as a mountain community. Cost of living very good, no state income tax and fuel prices are cheap. Have most any type of shopping and restaurants or within easy travel to lots more shopping ie towns of Fort Collins (40min) Denver (90 min). Raised my kids here. The schools are o.k. Not very friendly for Charter and private schools though. The local school districts are afraid of the competition. Crime isn't too bad but seems to be rising because of the increasing population. The oil boom is looming on our horizon not too far from town. Some not so good things, WIND !!! we definitely get way too much. There are 300 sunny days per year but in the winter there is often too much wind to bother going outside. You can't tell your near the mountains from most places in town so don't expect a beautiful mountain view. Military town that doesn't have good zoning. Rental properties are mixed in nice neighborhoods so you might have a shabby place mixed in with a few nice homes. You might have a $300,000 home right across from a mobile home. Lots of good old boy politics with job hiring. Often the better positions are filled by friends of friends and family.[read more...]

| Buford, WY - 7/21/2011
We purchased a vehicle and was driving it home to New Orleans through WY. Our truck overheated and we found ourselves stranded in Buford, WY.
Called our road service for a tow truck. Owner of Buford's Trading Post was quite clear that he would not allow the tow truck "on his property".
Also, the road service would not send a tow truck because none of them would come because of previous incidents of getting a shotgun shot at them! We had to wait for our truck to cool down enough to find the next exit and got towed to Cheyenne, WY 20 miles away. So...what do I think of Buford, WY - Population 1? More like population of 1 ASSHOLE!!![read more...]

| Cheyenne? - 6/17/2009
I was in Cheyenne about 7 years ago and enjoyed my brief stay there. | Cheyenne...A very nice town!!! - 2/20/2009
Hi,
I think Cheyenne is a great town! People are friendly, there are things to do,especially if you enjoy the outdoors. The Frontier Days parade is the best I've ever seen! The housing has become a bit pricey, however the crime rate is low and Cheyenne seems to be on a pretty steady growth pattern.
The wind is intense at times, but every place has it's problems!
I think it could be a great place to live![read more...]

| Living in Cheyenne: - 7/3/2008
To all the people who doesn't like cheyenne, "move". I liked in Cheyenne for two years, I can't wait to get back. people are rude in every state, most of the people that I met was always really nice to us, there were a couple of jerks, but I met more jerks in other states. Cheyenne is a great place to live, I loved the slower pace, less traffic, friendly people and getting from one place to the other in a short amount of time, and with hearing all the road rage. I live in South Carolina, and I love most of the things here, but it is a lot more crowded, takes more time to get anywhere, but it is still a nice place to live. but Cheyenne is where we are returning to and retire there, I made real good money where I was there, if you didn't find a good paying job, you probably didn't want one. Every state has good and bad, and if you don't like living there, then find somewhere you want to live and move there. People bad mouth places, but no one is making them stay there. So stop fussing, find where you want to be and live happy, life is just to short.[read more...]

| I have lived all over, and I choose Cheyenne - 1/24/2008
My husband was in the military and we lived all over. From North Dakota to Arkansas, to Europe and beyond....When it came time for retirement, we chose Cheyenne to call home.
The crime rate is extremely low. Yes, housing is completely out of control...but in our travels, we have discovered that housing is out of control in most places.
The statements that there is NOTHING to do, is incorrect. There is plenty of events that happen at the Civic Center. We have had the Moscow Ballet not only perform here, but include our children in the performances. Coming soon are additional performances, including Gypsy and Chicago. If you still seem to think that those aren't good enough, Denver is just a short distance away....close enough to visit, but far enough away not to be a huge influence.
So sorry that you all have had bad experiences here....and yes the drivers here could use a lesson or two in the proper manners in which to drive, but I think that it is the best place for families!!![read more...]

I have lived in a lot of places in the U.S.A. & I have never lived in a place that was so full of it`s self in the most arrogant way, they are proud to tell you that it is NOT what you know it is WHO you know to get a good job & that will only pay $10 dollars an hour. The only nice people here moved here from another state. The good ol boys club is in full swing here. They drive like a bunch of idiots here !!! These people are in there own little world & they know everything, just ask them. I am a regular white guy with a white wife,I could not imagine how hard it would be being of another race. The backwards third world attitude starts at the top,the state & local goverment is a mess, they are for the state NOT the people. The rich keep getting richer & the people here are living in poverity! This town can be bought off if you want somthing bad enought & have the money. They do not want people with any knowlage to move here,That would make it so they could not b.s. you & get away with it.[read more...]
