Brea, California SperlingViews

Brea's a nice, safe, clean surburban town with good schools and a cute downtown area. It's conveniently located between L.A. and Orange Counties. Lots to do within driving distance. Like most other places in southern CA, it is way overpriced. One downfall I aven't been able to get past about southern CA is that people aren't very welcoming, and it's hard to establish meaningful relationships. Everyone's in their own bubble here.

I loved living here in Brea, CA for over 17 years. It is a great community. For being a small north Orange County city it has a lot to offer. Schools are really good.[read more...]

In Brea, and nearly all of Orange County- let alone Southern California, the expectations are that every family has two incomes or one six figure income. The amount that is needed to own a home and live in some comfort is more than the average single income can provide. Good Orange County City - 8/29/2006

Pros: Functional and pedestrian-friendly downtown. There's always some festival or other going on. Lots of restaurants and shopping, as well as jobs (though this being SoCal, you'll likely work many miles away). By Orange County standards, it's about average in housing prices and rents. Cons: By national standards house prices and rents are absolutely ridiculous. If you don't already own a home in SoCal, don't even bother coming here. As for Brea itself, the city seems to treat it's police force as a revenue stream; you will be cited for something while living here. It's a resident's rite of passage.[read more...]

Great Southern California weather. Home prices are very high. Cost of living is high. Close to major employers. Crime is relatively low. Lots of shopping, dining (you name it,its there), parks and recreational attractions around.[read more...]
