| A great place to live - 2/16/2012
Canton is a great place to live. In the city there are plenty of parks, museums (President Mckinley Museum, First Ladies Museum and the Pro Football Hall of Fame), art gallery, D-league basketball, area league football, excellent players guild. Even in the winter there's near by skiing, not to mention plenty of hills for your taboggans. Exellent road system and public transportion makes it easy to get a round and below average cost of living index are additonal plus. [read more...]

| say what you will... but Canton OH has been good t - 3/29/2010
I've been enjoying the site, comparing places I've been with places I might be going. Then I stumbled upon some reviews for Canton Ohio, where I currently am. I was surprised that comments seemed so far removed from my experiences that I thought I'd write and add a dissenting voice.
Canton Oh is a Midwest, blue collar town. I grew up here then moved away. But as we age, and our parents age, sometimes we find ourselves back in our hometowns whether we planned it or now. Thus... I'm back in Canton OH. And you know what... I'm surprised.
I'm an artist and lived in the greater Denver CO area for many years. When I first moved "home", I was very concerned... that as an artist I might starve. But I've been amazingly surprised at Canton Ohio's effort to support the arts.
If you tour downtown Canton OH you'll see amazing public works of art, exciting galleries in the downtown area. And most importantly, you'll sense a spirit of rebirth and camaraderie among those of us involved with this new "Arts District." We're grateful to find kindred spirits and especially grateful to be supported in this small Midwest town.
So say what you may... if you're near Canton OH, come downtown on the First Friday of the month and you'll be amazed at the talent, the excitement and the fun that can be generated in what used to be a nondescript midwest town.
Go Canton

| I've lived in Canton for 19 years and have watched - 4/4/2007
you are a community activist trying to save drug addicts and prostitutes. There are absolutely no jobs other than minimum wage, if you can find one, there are tons of sex offenders, and mostly, it seems that every young man, even those with potential, are doing the only thing they can in this city to survive, better known as selling crack. There is so much drug related crime that it's scary to let your kids play outside, even in the 'nice' areas. I know four or five people PERSONALLY who have been killed over the last couple years. People don't smile and wave, they look at everyone as a suspect, for good reason. I can't wait to leave, but right now have to remain in this city to take care of aging parents. This is a terrible town to raise children or try to make a life.[read more...]

| NO on Canton, Ohio.. - 8/7/2006
For a city of only 79,000.. you have a high concentration of LOW LIFE.. WAY too much, with people just out "milling around".. looking for something to get into.. A lot of sex offenders, ex cons, and the same people in and out of jail, wrecking havoc on peoples lives.... HOOKERS galore, pimps, drug dealers, and people just screaming in the streets, in the middle of the night, early morning.....CHEAP housing,is expected, and is...The really oustanding things, are that the City of Canton, has a GREAT mayor, Mayor Janet Weir Creighton, and just as outstanding, is the Canton City Police Chief, Dean McKimm..ALSO, Canton has a terrific police force...Unfortunately the mentality in Canton, what there is of it, goes in a big circle, and ends up where it started..NOT a people, with vision, for the most part..... A very prominent "redneck" attitude, prevails, and if you go outside the general mode, people run for fear of the unknown..Very clannish and clicky, with a small town mentality....LOTS of crime, and low life behavior patterns..Canton is trying to make a comeback, and no one could be in a better place to make that happen, then the current Mayor, and the current Police chief, mentioned above.....People with a normal lifestyle, and the $$$$ to get out, FLEE to the burbs, where they can buy a decent car, without the fear of someone looking in it by day, and breaking into it, by night..Someone banging on your door to "use the phone", or hitting you up for 'a ride".. MANY alcoholics....with people just milling around, block by block....Yep, thats Canton, Ohio....HIGH tolerance and "Pity" for criminals, with Cantons HUGE array of "social helps groups", and very little justice, for those living right.. HOWEVER, the Canton Police Chief, DOESNT play that, and neither does the Canton Police Force....[read more...]
