Review of Lenoir, North Carolina

LOVE IT HERE!
Star Rating - 4/23/2014
I know the unemployment rate in Lenoir is not superb, but the lifestyle here is wonderful! I've lived outside Chicago, rural Oklahoma and New Hampshire, outside Ft. Worth, and numerous other places, but this is by far my favorite place to live. Things run at a slower pace which takes some getting used to if you're used to a face-paced city atmosphere, but it's welcoming, the people are so friendly, and the downtown is wonderful. We have car shows and family movies shown downtown during the summer, the leaves are beautiful in the fall, and the outdoor activities available year-round are excellent. You're within a reasonable driving distance to Hickory (25 mins S), Boone (1 hr N), Charlotte (1 1/2 hrs SE), Winston-Salem (1 hr 15 mins E), Morganton (20 mins), and Asheville (1 hr 15 mins W). We have hiking trails, the greenway (paved walking/biking trails), waterways (Catawba River, Lake Rhodiss, Lake Hickory, Wilson's Creek), camping and so much more here. Plus we have great little downtown restaurants and antiques stores which I love. You get the quality and peace of small-town living, but we still have shopping necessities like Wal-Mart, many local grocery stores, and more. Our movie theater leaves much to be desired, but the ticket prices are low and the nice theaters in Morganton and Hickory are not far. While everyone complains about the unemployment rate here, there are many jobs available on Indeed.com and through the state and city websites as well. New businesses have been popping up regularly it seems like (Mountain Burrito, Dos Amigos, and the new Orthopedic Center to name a few), and the local newspaper just announced a new pub/brewery would be going in downtown soon. We have great options for church services here as well and I cannot emphasize enough how welcoming, generous and kind the people are here. I love it here and have no intentions on leaving.
