Shelton, Connecticut SperlingViews

living here in shelton ct. (the valley). i was brought up in the valley. Seymour to be exact. I am 53yrs. old, Unfortunitly the area is depressing. the manufacturing in this once booming area is gone with vacant buildings all over the place. not just shelton all of ct. if it wasn't for nyc.are state would be closed. lower fairfield county is a sleeper town for nyc.I have to admit thou, i have traveled a little around the country, mostly south.when i saw the way the rest of the country lives i would say this place is heaven. this state is a very expense place to live. winter time hear is long. depression sets in fast. summer is short, the lin island sound is a ses pool. (sewer). by the time it is warm summer is over, plus the see weed as developed and sticks. if it wasn't for Sikorski aircraft employing everyone there would be no state. they got this state by the you no what. then there are the great american indian casino's. they finally got there reconition. Oh yeah i forgot!!! THEY HIRE ALL ASIANS AND BUS THEM ALL IN FROM NYC OR ELSE WHERE.Oh well i guess it could be worst. REALLY? this is my opinon and i am to old for this sh--. I would rent here move on and keep on enjoying life as you go on. just don't do it here. you won't achieve your goals if you have any. God i could keep writing all day. BYE>

I see a lot of people complain about Shelton.OK,it's their right.Is it perfect? Of course not.But I've seen a lot of people leave and come back in a year or two.What is it they say about the grass on the other side of the fence? If you look at the stats you will see it's expensive here. Especially housing. But those prices have been falling,like every where. But they are still high relative to the most of the country.Utilities(electricity rates) have fallen about 20% in the past two years so that's good.Food is pretty much the same nationally.The biggest factor in Connecticut,and most of the northeast is taxes and that is only because elected officials betrayed the people and bought there way back into office with generous(outrageous) salaries and benefits for public employees.Shelton remains the lowest taxed city in the county thanks to an effective town movement and mayor.Crime rates are very low because we are fortunate to have well educated police and supervision is vigilant in most towns.Some people complain about the weather but I am reminded of a comment about New England by Mark Twain who lived most of his latter life in Connecticut. Twin said"If you don't like the weather in New England wait five minutes. It will Change," 'nuff said. Last year at this date I had about four feet of snow on the sides of my driveway and most was still there at the end of April.It never got out of the teens for three months. This year I have yet to see a snow flake by the middle of January and this week is a repeat of last.Sunny and mid 40's.And by the way,our help care system is some of the best in the country.[read more...]

Low taxes are not enough. - 6/16/2006

Sure, the taxes in Shelton are very low compared to the rest of Fairfield County, but that isn't enough. Property Values are climbing faster than wage increases. Overdevelopment is quickly becoming an issues. What was once protected wetlands is quickly becoming strip malls and town houses. The deciding factor for me though is the weather. I, for one, shudder at the thought of one more New England winter, get me outta here.[read more...]
