| Port Saint Lucie is a sad place to live. There isn't much to do here and there aren't any jobs. The city is quickly becoming a ghost town with all the businesses closing and the foreclosures that are not being taken care of. Crime is on the rise. Schools? 71 schools on the treasure coast were cited as not meeting federal education guidelines. Several of these schools are listed as "A" rated schools by Florida guidelines. That should tell you all you need to know about the school systems here.
We moved here in 2001 and I wish we could have found a website that actually told the truth about an area. We fell for all the "propaganda" that we read in different places and received from the chamber of commerce. If this is a city that you are considering moving to, drive through. Count the number of vacant homes. Count the number of vacant commercial businesses. Talk to the people. Visit the schools, talk to the kids. And last...move on!

Port st Lucie Schools system needs an upgrade. Children can live within walking distance to an elementary school but are bussed 30-40 mins from home because of an out dated system. It is a good area to raise children, nice parks, close to beaches, low crime... but poor pubilc school choice/system.[read more...]

| Low Crime Rate - 7/1/2005
This is the fastest growing city in the US, over 100,000 population. Very nice new home developments. NY Mets Spring Training site! Tradition is a planned community kind of like Celebration , near Walt Disney World. Orlando is about 1.5 hours away on the FL Turnpike. Near nice beaches. Had first direct major hurricane hit in over 50 years in 2004. new homes which were built under strict hurricane codes had little damage. Manufactured homes and coastal homes were hit hard! Lowest crime rate for any FL city over 100,000. Crime went down 13% in past year over the previous year.[read more...]
