"Was once a great place to live"

In recent months Slidell has seen a major transformation. The cost of housing has increased drastically, especially in areas not affected by the hurricane. There has been an influx of people, which our roads cannot handle. Traffic is horrible everywhere and at all times of the day. On a positive note, the commute time to New Orleans is actually better than it was pre-Katrina, primarily because New Orleans East in unoccupied. The job market is booming, but this is only in service-related areas. There are very few professional careers in Slidell, save for banks and hospitals, and the situation in New Orleans is still on the mend. Maybe in a few more months it will be better- but then, hurricane season is only a few months away- so who knows!

use to live there - 1/15/2012

it is too close to new orleans east where there their crime has spread, had recent robberies. It is no longer nice to live. Sales tax rate has also increased in the parish. If you live there, it is better to do your purchase in mississippi, it is just 15 mins away.[read more...]

Slidell's crime is on the up rise since Katrina hit and the future is so uncertain. We are thinking about relocating due to all the houses that just sit and haven't been gutted yet. Louisiana in general has very poor politics.[read more...]

Pretty town - 4/15/2006

I have enjoyed Slidell more than I thought I would - after 10 years it kind of grows on you. The elementary school for our district is outstanding and even though we're still bouncing back from the storm (and nervously anticipating the next storm season) it's slowly but surely coming back.[read more...]
