"Mild year 'round climate in Carson City"

Mild year 'round climate in Carson City - 3/7/2011

We are a four-season climate, but not in the sense of four seasons in the East or midwest. Ours is a mild climate year 'round and we rarely break 100 in the summer and never below zero in the winter. Ours is a dry climate making 40 degrees in the winter seem almost spring like. Yes, it snows, but melts quickly. We have a colorful fall and a short, but beautiful, spring.

Carson City is a hidden treasure - 1/11/2013

Carson City is a small capital city in Northern Nevada just east of Lake Tahoe. It is a gorgeous high desert mountain town that is the perfect size for quick access to everything that you need, including work, schools, shopping, restaurants, medical care, and outdoor recreation. It has a nationally recognized historic district, a regional medical center, an observatory, the State Capital Complex, river rafting, and an abundance of unique places to discover. It's not a place to drive through, but a place to spend some time in and explore.

Not many better - 9/5/2010

I've lived in CC for 25 years, raised my family there and never thought much about how fortunate we were to be so close to everything city and nature. Now my company has relocated to lower Alabama! If you think CC is bad, or other places are better, try moving to "paddle faster" country.

Very Unhappy in Carson City - 9/22/2009

There is nothing attractive to see here. Just alot of sage brush. Hey if you like the desert this is the place 4 U. I came from Northern California & I really miss being at sea level! I miss seeing anything green, the only green you will see here is a golf course. I miss Redwood trees, Oak trees, everything beautiful. I've had nothing but problems with the elevation here, 4,500 or so. And I've developed major depression being here. Fortunately I'll be moving to a north/west state very soon.

Fantastic place! - 6/28/2007

Carson City definetly has the hillbilly element, but if you can look beyond that, this is one of the best places to live in the country. We are in the valley right below Lake Tahoe, which is 15 minutes away. It is the most beautiful valley I have ever seen. There is a high population of pilots here because it is so spectacular to fly here. World class skiing is within 20 minutes in all directions, but we don't get dumped on down here like the higher elevations. Every other person has a boat because there are a LOT of lakes..Tahoe of course, but many more. Kayacking is within easy access too. Reno is 20 minutes away if you need city, without having to live in it. It's perfect weather most of the time. It is a true outdoor paradise.

Living with wildfires - 8/29/2006

In parts of town where there are signs posted promoting www.livingwithfire.org one might think twice. Since moving here from the east coast 2 years ago we have experienced one fire (8,000 sq feet - largest in history) burning our entire view to the left. And this year a fire burning our view behind us. It's a very scary thing being evacuated for fire and watching it burn. Unlike anything we were used to. The govt does a great job trying to replant, but it will take years to regrow that beautiful view and by then i expect there will be another fire. Reno has many fires as well. Dozens each year. Check out Fire Season coverage in the local paper all summer long. www.nevadaappeal.com or rgj.com if you are interested. Not to mention living in the valley (or canyons) after fire season is over if too much has burnt (make sure you have "Defensible space" around your house) then you have to prepare for mud slides as the brush is gone and the mountain snow melts and runs down hill obviously. Cost of housing has become rediculous recently. Absolutely nice to be near Lake Tahoe and skiing is amazing but this town trends much older if you are going into upper middle class areas. Our neighborhood is largely old retirees. No kids for children to play with. Good restaurants are scarce. Service can be terrible and people you deal with, even in professional jobs, can be highly uneducated. School system in Carson is terrible as well as gang problems in the one and only highschool. No state income tax, but let's not forget the gambling and legal prostitution. You want to bring up a family around all that? I'm looking forward to moving.

utilities cost - 8/19/2005

I've lived just south of Carson City in Minden, NV for over five years and the costs here for housing and utilities have skyrocketed. I don't think that the figures you have posted here reflect todays facts.
