City of Mountain View - 3/21/2010

I was born and raised in Mountain View. I used to really like this city, and California. Unfortunately, the city (along with the state) has been over run with high prices, lower quality of life, horrible public education system, and increased crime & violence. I'm moving out of California.[read more...]

If You Don't Mind Paradise - 8/18/2007

Having been born and raised in the great northwest with its deep, cold, rain, coming to land in the south bay area of Cali has been nothing short of pure delight. With no more than a handful of days above 90 degrees in the the summer, and the rare dip below 25 in the winter, we live in the mildest of climates with the softest kind of weather. Not too windy or too hot or too rainy or too cold, anyone who needs the rush of more assertive weather should steer clear of our comfortable, ambling, sunny days with happy dots of white visiting our blue sky just to add variety. Our roses bloom into December, and our trees green up by March. Winter hardly shows his gray beard here, but Summer is so well-behaved that everyone loves her. Yup, it's just what anyone can enjoy, if you don't mind paradise.[read more...]

Best climate, bar none! - 6/26/2007

Hi! Mountain View, CA has the best climate of anywhere I have ever lived, or think I could live. It is frequently warm and sunny, rarely too hot. It is cooler than San Jose by enough to make life bearable (on hot days) and warmer by a lot than San Francisco and the rest of the Peninsula (on cool days). Plants of most varieties (including sun-loving vegetables) grow quite well. It's just too bad the housing costs are so high I will never be able to own a house here! Cheers! [read more...]

Nice place --- too expensive for starters - 3/16/2007

This place is way too expensive for the average couple. And by average - I mean an income of $150,000+. We can't afford a starter home, so we are looking at leaving. Pretty sad considering we're from Northern California...[read more...]

Quality of Life in Mountain View, CA - 6/12/2006

If moving to California, or to a new location in CA, Mountain View is a place to carefully consider. The pros: nearby Rancho San Antonia park, which has beautiful hiking and biking trails and is a bit of heaven in the bay; it near Santa Cruz, San Jose, and San Francisco; has easy access to public transportation; Castro St. is quaint, with cute stores and a variety of good restaurants. The cons: there is no sense of community or cohesiveness among the people; most of the city is a long strip mall; slim pickings for nightlife or live music; no real spark or energy from the area or the people.[read more...]
