Not Much to Do - 12/1/2008

Unless you're into getting wasted on a regular basis there's not a lot to do here. Most people barhop for fun. Being someone who doesn't drink and doesn't enjoy being around drunk people, my only other option is to go to church, but being the non-religous person that I am, that's not exactly an option I want to partake in either.[read more...]

Climate - 8/22/2008

So the weather is emotional here - on and off during the summer its hot and rainy, yet during the fall it is quite often beautiful. Winters can be long, and spring can come late. the Cedar Valley is a great place to live - 4/19/2008

We've lived in the Cedar Valley region of northeast Iowa - centered on Waterloo/Cedar Falls - for about 4 years. People are friendly, there are great downtowns - eclectic cultural districts and center of commerce and government and small city downtown shopping in close drives. The housing is inexpensive, but property taxes should be looked at. There are good jobs here and kind of a neat cluster of creative firms that take advantage of Cedar Falls fiber optic system. Everything else here from 5 John Deere plants and R&D, to 2 major hospitals, 5 higher ed colleges/U's. Utilities are pretty inexpensive. Housing data says that we're low in median prices, but prices are among the fastest rising - but still affordable. there is no crime outside of the ordinary stuff.
